Not impressed
Noisy location with a lot of noise outside at the weekend and youths shouting at each other when the bars in the surrounding area close. Very poor quality breakfast, the bacon and sausage were over cooked - perhaps even deep fried. The room was okay but tired and not worth what we were charged in mid January (off season).

Good location close to main street with shops and restaurants, except for no parking. Property was a disappointment. Bed uncomfortable. Very small room and bathroom. Dreary and dated furnishings; not updated. No common area on the property to sit and relax. Pub on property nothing special and was closed some of the time. Breakfast was a very poor buffet- packaged pastries that would probably be likely to be found in a gas station mini market. Not a pleasant setting either. Hotel was overpriced for what it was.

The Hotel was ideal for our requirements. An area that was open for morning/afternoon coffees etc would have enhanced the facilities.

Well established Hotel
Hotel was typical of most hotels and pubs/restaurants in the area . Everything seemed old but worked fine. Comfortable bed and a decent shower. Plenty of tea and coffee in the room and good selection of biscuits. Never ate there but the bar was good and the the barmaid was friendly unlike the reception who I think was having a very busy day when we arrived. Short walk into town.

Hello, thank you for your feedback. I am sorry you felt this way. There is towel rails in all our bathrooms that towels can be hung up on. We will certainly look at a hook for the back of the door. Kind regards

The staff were very friendly, the room comfortable and had a lovely dinner in the Neuk restaurant, which is part of the hotel. In the main part of town, so only a five minute walk to where I was going.

Good choice
please note we were in the top super deluxe room, so review is of that room. Bit tricky to find hotel if you're using google-maps prior to arriving, due to a strange warp-jump between a separation strip of a non-usable road and a separate car-park road. Then you have to leave your car with no ticket (beware inspectors) while you check-in (slow). Not sure how parking works as our car was returned to hire-place after check-in. Doesn't look easy. Our top-range room was huge with a balcony and king bed, but cannot speak for other rooms. Lift is hidden, so ask if you need it. Large layout, obviously made up of many old houses... so has this "rabbit-warren" effect, but modern clean feel all over. Breakfast great. One over-worked waitress, but she was great. Reception often not there, so if you have questions, do it when you see them.

I had an overall good stay over the weekend at the Albert Hotel. Check-in was quick and simple, and the rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. The large tub in the bathroom was a definite upside. However, a large music gig/festival was held in the downstairs restaurant/bar area on my second night. There was no information given to suggest this, and I was not told the bar/restaurant would not be available on the second night. However, the largest issue with this was the noise. While the actual music did not cause too much disturbance despite the smaller nature of the hotel, the guests/concertgoers were queuing & smoking below my window, and were very loud/drunkenly rowdy well into the wee hours of the morning, which made it incredibly difficult to sleep due to the noise. I know that this experience is not a usual one as this was a special event, but I do believe management could have been more forward with information regarding the event and what that meant for those staying. As I had an early morning the next day, the noise disturbance was really unfortunate.

Ideal location for a long weekend in the Orkneys. Everything within Kirkwall is within walking distance. As with most hospitality, affected by a lack of staff. Reception was shut when we arrived and also when we left, although we had given prior notice of our arrival time - contact made via the Bothy Bar and someone came to provide our keys. The adjoining Bothy Bar was open on the Friday night but shut Saturday/Sunday due to illness / insufficient replacement staff. Room was clean, spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed the partial buffet / hot breakfast by order each morning.

Best hotel in Kirkwall
Super clean hotel, friendly staff and luxurious rooms. Would definatley recommend if stating in kirkwall. The town can be noisy at night and although the hotel is central to everything in the town located in a quieter street than the other hotels. Thank goodness as Friday and Saturday nights are lively and the revellers noise would be hard to sleep with.

Good hotel to use as a base for Orkney.
Pleasant friendly hotel in a good central position Room and particularly bathroom could have been a bit bigger. Breakfast was very good. Bed was comfortable.
