The best welcome I have ever received at a hotel from Mr. Schneider. Genuinely welcoming not the artificial welcome one usually gets (if that). Went out of his way to make dinner recommendations with candid and accurate assessments of the various possibilities.

Outstanding hotel, especially for the value. The best location: walk to train station, Banhofstrasse is one street over, central location to all old town, incredible restaurants, and major cathedrals and museums. Quiet and clean rooms, perfectly varied breakfast, attentive front desk staff.
I was not sure how this hotel was with 3 stars, but everything was good, and breakfast was very nice(I saw someone complained on the review) There is nothing hot served, but good variety. Location is very convenient, and the room is clean. They did not have a bath tub in our triple room, but we did not need it. I will stay there when I come back to Zurich.
Excellent staff offering helpful service. Excellent breakfast offering the usual hot and cold foods. The room was spacious although the bed might have been a bit small for two people (I was on my own). They will alter the firmness of the Airlux mattress if you ask (mine was fine). Get tram 7 from the station to the Stockerstrasse stop (about 10 mins). Trams are around the corner from the hotel and it's only a short stroll to the Lake past the Congress House. I defy anyone not to enjoy Zürich - it's a wonderful place where everything works!
The building itself is in an amorphous corner block, but inside is fine, and with so much to see and do in Zürich, the outside look is irrelevant.

Our stay at the Statthotel was pleasant and comfortable. We arrived during the receptionist hours, and were checked in by a person rather than the after-hours system. I recommend timing your arrival for this, if at all possible, as it makes things easier. There is a small elevator to get up to the third level (check-in), so we took turns going up due to amount of people/luggage. The hotel door is on a small street, next to a bar. Going in during the late evening was safe, but you will pass by several people out at the bar. The rooms were clean, and fairly spacious. I liked that quantity of windows, and that they could open for fresh air. No air conditioning (from what I could tell), but it was not needed in late June. There was a fan, though. The shower was great! And, a regular hair dryer was in the room. The nespresso machine made great coffee, and the daily snack put in the room was a nice treat.
The only negative thing that may bother some guests is the noise - being located near two bars, noise is an issue. We did not mind it, however, and it seemed to stop shortly after midnight. The amazing location of this hotel -- right off the water, near a metro stop, and by many shops/restaurants -- made the slight noise totally bearable. There are earplugs by each beside, as well. We liked the minimal contact with other guests and hotel staff -- it seemed more like an apartment stay, which was relaxing and easy. You won't be disappointed if you stay here!
