It looks like a hotel from 70s built for American customers. There's obviously some conflicts of cultures, like giant rooms with 2 toilets, but the bathroom is made of typical Japanese plastic components... covered by tiles like in Europe or US. And there were no big rooms with breakfast and double bed. It is normal to use separate beds in Japan, maybe, but it was strange and inconvenient for me.
The beach is small, but beautiful. Unlike most beaches of silicon dioxide sand, this one is of ground coral (calcium). It is so different of anything I experienced before. The water is clean like a teardrop and plays with beautiful colors in the morning and during the sunset.
The leisure facilities, however, are bad maintained. I mean rigorous, but inadequate management. Birds are singing everywhere, a lot of flowerpots. But when you go to the hotel beach you have to pay twenty usd for the hotel own sunbeds. It's kind of.. not fair. And you have to go "somewhere" to use your card. Water sports are organized wonderful, but that's all. No one plays volleyball. No bar at the beach (there is a bar house occupied by beach watchers for some reason). Ping-pong and billiard are moved somewhere to the back, almost under the rain - it is obvious no one would play them that way. I would expect a beer bar with billiard, but no.
There are at least 3 restaurants (all are buffet breakfast type), but a bit overpriced with only two similar menus by odd and even dates. The bar is good, with music
This hotel is excellent! At this price, I will say it is one of the best. Only thing is that I went on November time, so there are many high school trips to that hotel. Most of the activities were all booked out and too many students running around. It doesn't bother me much and me and my girlfriend still enjoy our stay there very much. Also location of the hotel is good for me because it is in the middle of Okinawa, so one day going down to Naha area and the other day we went up to Nago area. If you have a car, it is a good location.
Hotel was very spacious with lots of amenities. Breakfast was great with lots of Japanese and American choices. Great location and great staff. Only down side was the parking was a bit of a walk from the front door.

We stayed at the condo part of the resort. The condo was clean, comfortable, and well equipped. The view of the China Sea from our room was stunning. The staff were extremely helpful. We had to cut our trip short due to a death in our family. The staff at the front desk helped me contact the airline so I could change my reservations.

We did two nights at the Mahaina in September. Staff were very friendly and accomodating. This is a great place to come with kids. Nice, spacious rooms and they provided a crib (for 3,200/night- a bit expensive). The pools are nice and they have some fountains and games for kids. NIghtly entertainment on the patio as well. We had a great view over the ocean.
This hotel is very close to Emerald beach and the Churaumi aquarium, both highly recommended.
We didn't try any of the food at the hotel, but there is a very good Pizza place close by open only for lunch, Leco. really good and also kid friendly.
The location is great but there were a few frustrations. The hotel beach doesn't allow free swimming so you have to swim in the netted off area. Great but it closed at 5pm - just about the time the tide was coming in to make it viable. Obviously the reason for keeping swimming in the netted area is sensible - poisonous fish.
The usual frustrations of being a vegetarian in Japan were maintained. Marinading vegetables and tofu in beef or fish stock doesn't really keep them suitable for vegetarians.
