“Just a Room on the Beach, NOTHING ELSE.”
one amenity other than the beach is the pool which closes at like 530 pm. No entertainment, we called the breakfast "BREADFAST" hotel staff at restaurant are not that pleasant and kind of slow. Front desk is a little friendlier. No staff to greet you or help with bags. This hotel is maybe 2 STARS **@ the mostGreat Location. No elevator on site. Hotel is next to Jamaica Grande which has 3 pools, slide, all inclusive, same beach, a club and entertainment. YOU CAN SPEND A LITTLE SOMEWHERE ELSE, cause in the end you will be nickel and dimed for drinks and ameneties anyway.
“DISSAPOINTED”
The room was moldy, the bathroom and room ambiance was not the best. The front desk service was lacking in giving basic customer service. The housekeepers, maintenance and security guards were great, they were more comforting and personal than the managers and front desk clerk. I think the managers and front desk clerk could use some public relations cue from the housekeepers!
“Not a fun time”
My husband and I decided to try Ochi on our second trip to Jamaica to see a bit of that side of the island. Now that we have, I don't think we'll go back. Really, the Rooms hotel wasn't so horrible. It's Ocho Rios that's a drag. Dirty, crowded, not very pretty, not much to do, expensive, annoying, frustrating. The hotel seems kind of rundown. It's not dirty or dangerous, and there are certain charms — the open-air dining room is nice, and the balconies on the ocean-view rooms are, too. Our room was clean and comfortable. The main problem was the guys on the beach who harass you to buy a snorkling/parasailing/horsebackriding/etc. tour camped out pretty much 24/7 on a picnic table under our balcony and would hassle us if we went on the balcony. Also, the pool is tiny and shallow, the beach is tiny and glum, the water is murky and I got stung by jellyfish. We decided to take some day tours to get out of the hotel, but everything was alarmingly expensive. We did have a nice shuttle driver — Captain Kirk — but could only afford to do two trips. The best was seeing Noel Coward's Firefly. Our guidebooks warned against walking around town, but it was more of an annoyance than a danger. Lots of people trying to sell us stuff (which we expected) and helping us find places when we knew were we were going, and then asking for a tip for their help. Restaurants are pricey but there are some good ones — Taj Mahal and the Jerk Center were our faves.
“Not impressed”
The staff was pleasant and of assistance when asked. The dining area was acceptable. The servers were pleasant and of assistance, and did their best to ensure we were satisfied. The availability of the dining facility in the hotel was great especially since it rained a couple of days while we were there and leaving the hotel to seek food was a bit of a challenge. The easy access to the beach area was excellent. The pool availability could have been more convenient. We were told that t was open until 6:00pm and I did not see it open until late in the morning, certainly after 8:30am. This hotel would be fine if you want to be secluded. The toilet was definitely not cleaned; rings around the bowl!!! The bathroom was not swept or mopped for the 4 nights we stayed there. The room was overlooking the parking lot. The AC did not work one of the nights we were there. We were promised a change in room that Sunday but it never happened and no one contacted us to say why.
“Would go back”
I had a fantastic time that the hotel. Staff was awesome. Room was clean but the bathroom needed some work. Loved the location. Close to everything.
“you get what you pay for”
the 2 double bed with balcony is acutally on the first floor and locals that are on the beach can see into your room whenever there on the beach there was no privacy. The safes are old and rusty and also is in the bathroom along with the closets like you cannot hang up your clothes cause the steam from the shower will make them damp and any electronics you put in the safe will get messed up a little hint cover them with plastic. the free breakfast well thats all carbs but the eggs and bacon was resonably priced but dont wait for the waitress plan to spend an hr waiting for food. The pool that was a big disappointment it was full of kids in the day and next thing you know bammm it closes at 6pm what hotel do you know shuts down the 1 pool this early no adult swim at all
“Good hotel and great location for price”
Great hotel for the price. The restaurant does take a little while for you to get service but that is just the island way of doing things, everything is irie. You do get approached on the beach by people trying to sell you stuff but it is not overwhelming, just tell them your not interested and they will go away. Other than that, the main area of the town is a very short walk away. The heat/cold level of the water in the shower fluctuates so be careful with that. Overall good experience.
“Very comfortable.”
The hotel is older. Nothing planned for the nights. Meals are simple.
“Good value, needs a few minor upgrades.....”
Alarm clock, yes, even on vacation it would be nice to not have to wear your watch all the time...A fridge in the room and a microwave as well so you can save some of the fantastic Jamaican cuisine you can find just down the road. You must try the Jerk Center food, especially the pork...BEST in JA! Sorry Scotchie's! If you want to enjoy some of the water sports available on the beach don't be afraid to haggle over the price, it is expected and if you don't....you WILL pay too much! Relax at the pool bar a bit, nice atmosphere, good conversation but a bit pricey as well. Overall, I will stay again, this was my 2nd time @ Rooms....it would just be a bit more comfortable stay with a few more ammenities provided.
“was satisfied but hotel needs improvement”
