“Great hotel, location, pool/beach access.”

Excellent holiday, hotel was excellent, staff were very helpful, available 24 hours. Rooms very clean. Great access to beach and shops.

Area recommendations

Pearl Harbour is a must, very soulful, thought provoking. The Cultural Centre was excellent. Take the one hour sunset trip on the catamaran at the beach front - beautiful end to the day. Fantastic to be able to shop till 11pm at night.

“The best place in Waikiki”

What a location - although we were on the south side overlooking the Cheesecake factory site. Unfortunately the exhaust air conditioning from this place is noisy - try and get beach front or north facing.

“Great stay!”

This was our first visit to Hawaii, so everything was a new experience for us. We stayed at the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach from December 3-9, 2011. Although we were concerned about having rainy weather at this time of year, it was beautiful throughout our stay with spotty showers that cleared up quickly. The hotel was nestled next to the Royal Hawaiian with a gorgeous view of Diamond Head. The hotel restaurants overlooking the water had stunning views. One of my favorite parts of the day was enjoying the excellent buffet breakfast at Duke's, sipping my coffee and enjoying the open air looking out at the water. The sunsets were spectacular! The hotel is straight across from the International Market and centered within lots of other hotels, restaurants, and shops, so there was always something to do. The only downside of our trip was the traffic getting into and out of Waikiki. We went out each day to tour a different part of the island, and often were stuck for an hour or more in bumper to bumper traffic. The beach was crowded in front of our hotel as well, but this seemed to be the same throughout the Waikiki area. We had a rental car, and the fee of $30 per day for valet parking was steep, but we knew this ahead of time, so we were prepared. The hotel itself was very nice and in a great location in Waikiki. Service was excellent and friendly throughout our stay. Thanks to the staff for a great first visit to Oahu!

Area recommendations

I would recommend Waikiki, since it is the center offering the best hotels, shopping, and restaurants for tourists.

Getting around

We rented a car, which was an expensive choice because of the hotel's $30/day parking fee. However, since our purpose was to see as much of the beautiful island as possible, a car was the best choice for us. We had an excellent guidebook that gave directions to some of the most beautiful views on the island, which we would not otherwise have seen. Getting around Waikiki was very confusing and difficult to navigate, but after a few frustrating trips, we figured it out. If you only want to go to specific destinations during your stay, buses and tours can be purchased, and given the terrible traffic in Waikiki, it's a less frustrating alternative!

Must see

First, a visit to Pearl Harbor can't be missed. The history and first-hand view of that historic area is an incredible experience. A drive to the north shore will reward you with spectacular views and a day away from crowded Waikiki. We were lucky enough to see a surfing contest on waves that were at least 15 feet or more! Hanauma Bay is beautiful as well, on the southeastern side. We also enjoyed the Polynesian Village, which offered performances and educational experiences about various Polynesian islands.

“Great hotel.”

This is a great hotel overall with extra points for cleanliness and staff friendliness. Small reservation regarding our hotel room door. It didn't seem to seal good allowing light to come in from the hallway all the way around the door. Curtain hanging on doorwall appeared short allowing light to come in there as well. The patio was very small limiting how you could position the chairs. These were minor issues. I would stay there if I ever returned to the area.

“Waikiki Beachfront View!!”

Our position at Outrigger on the Beach was great; convenient to the markets and the beach as well as the shopping strip at Waikiki. We had a 15th Floor Deluxe beachfront room which had a jacuzzi in the room. This sounded inviting on arrival but I would have preferred the more spacious room with a small lounge area for more room and somewhere to relax. We did have a balcony with table & chairs overlooking Duke's outdoor area and the beachfront. All in all it was a great position with easy access to the beach. Look forward to our next visit to Honolulu.

Area recommendations

Waikiki for accommodation and eating out. Ala Moana Mall for shopping.

The Waikiki Aquarium is worth a visit.

Hau tree Lanai Restaurant for a special dinner Changs in Leewars Street for tasty Chinese style food. Dukes and Hula grill have great food too,

“Will definitely book here again”

Loved the hotel, loved the location, loved the view from our oceanfront balcony. The entertainment every Friday, Saturday and Sunday was great. This is our 3rd trip to Hawaii but the first time we stayed at this hotel. We will definitely stay here again.

“Lively hotel in the heart of the action!”

A truly great hotel in the heart of Waikiki! Plenty of dining options for all tastes and budgets within walking distance. One of the most happening Bar and Grills just downstairs (DUKE'S). Very practical Expedia Travel Expert in the lobby to book all activities; with most of them able to pick you up downstairs or a short walk away. Ask for a room in the upper floors; as Kalakua Avenue is pretty lively at night! *They offer a complementary vow renewal ceremony a couple of days a week; just expect to pay over $200 for the pictures....we did

“Best location in Honolulu but rooms going down hill”

Stayyed at this hotel about 5 times previously and have had great fun and good memories.Always stay in an ocean front room as the views are fantastic. However on our last couple of visits, we really started to notice that everthing in the rooms and surroundings is staying to look very tired and dated. Even the pool area and Dukes bar needs a revamp. The service has always been average but have put up with this because of the great beachfront location. However, we will probably stay else where next time.
