“Great deal! a couple problems, but we would still go back!”
Outrigger Luana has a great location near Fort DeRussy beach park (7 minute walk through the park). If you have the park view you can look out your window at 6:30/7am and see a group of people below by the Army chapel practicing tai chi each morning. We (3) were there during the Nov 25th Holiday Parade down the main stretch and were able to see all the marching bands set up outside in the park. It was a treat to see them warming up. At night the noise from traffic was quite loud (sirens, revving engines) I had to wear earplugs for a restful night but I believe that's the case anywhere on the strip. Try to request a higher floor. We were on the 5th, so pretty low. Our room had a full kitchen which was perfect for our Thanksgiving leftovers, our huge breakfasts, and of course ice cream. We had 2 balconies and brilliant cross ventilation and air flow. The only problem with the room was the toilet. It clogged 3 times within 2 days. Two days in a row the hotel engineer had to come to the room, the 2nd time he snaked the toilet and it seemed to do the trick but I wasn't confident with it so I was used the hotel bathroom on the M level a bit. Also wish housekeeping would of swept our floor. The sand that we accidentally tracked in on Day 1 (fell off the beach towel and that was still on our legs) stayed throughout our 8 days. The concierge, Angela was great. Booked 3 tours. Despite some issues, I would still highly recommend this hotel. It's affordable and has a great location.
“Middle of the road”
I have stayed in sub-standard and luxury hotels before, Outrigger Luana Waikiki is right in the middle. Staff was friendly, the hotel common areas were clean at all times. I booked this hotel two weeks before travel and was looking for a low rate so I was given a first floor city view (roof of gas station). I would stay again if I return to this area. The only real complaints I had were the fact we requested that several spills from previous guests be cleaned up, sadly that never happened. The other real issues, and I am sure this is standard in Hawaii, is the outrageous fees for mandatory valet parking and all the surcharges for every thing you do. Wireless internet was free during my stay. If you do not enjoy walking find a place closer to the beach if that is your thing. There was every type of transportation within a block however. A barbeque is available for use, however no other method of cooking was available, such as stove, microwave or pots and pans, making it impossible to prepare anything with your grilled items. The pool closed at sunset which was a downside for us. There are laundry facilities(no soaps available for purchase in the laundry room) and a fitness room. Hope this helps! Aloha
“Great location”
We enjoyed our stay here. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable.
“It was better than I expected”
Great and convenient place to stay
“Honolulu Hotel”
Although the hotel was nice, it was a distance from the center of Waikiki. The hotel had no bar and the restaurant was only open until 2pm. The in room safe was inoperable and maintenance had to be called on several occasions.
“"Will Be Staying Again"”
The location for the Luana, was perfect for us, just on the end of Kalakaua Ave which is only 2 blocks from all the activities of Waikiki and Beach is very close also. All the staff at the Luana are just "AWESOME", right from when you arrive at the front steps (Bell Boiz), to the front desk (Check In), Concierge (Staff from Expedia), and the cleaning staff, this hotel I rate VERY HIGHLY, for location, cleanliness, and the politeness and helpfulness of all that work there.
“A Great Place to Stay”
Great all around place to stay,The staff is great and helpful,if you dont need a car dont rent one. everything is within walking distance. Have a great time we did.
“Nice Hotel, Good location”
I found this hotel good value for money. It was approx 10 minutes walk to Waikiki and close to the Ala Moana shopping centre by bus. The room we were in had bowls, plates and cutlery which was useful if we wanted to have a meal in the room. The only negative I can think of is that they charged for local calls which didn't happen anywhere else on our trip.
“Great Value Hotel”
My family traveled to Honolulu to get my son started at the University of Hawaii. We booked two rooms at the Luana for seven nights. All of the staff we encountered were personable and efficient; particularly the greetors at the curbside podium (Bell Captain?) who were friendly and knowledgable with a fantastic Aloha spirit. Joshua and Devin in particular but they were all great. The room was clean and comfortable and ready for us at our check-in time. There are no cooking facilities in the rooms although there are gas grills available on the first floor patio. The rooms had medium sized refridgerators and sinks, dishware and most utensils. Make your lunch sandwiches and take them on your day trip to save money. The pool area is minimal for a family with kids but Waikiki beach is a short walk away through the park. The overall location is excellent for walking or taking public transportation to almost anything the Waikiki and Ala Moana areas have to offer. This is not a resort! It is a very good value hotel in a great spot. Bring comfortable shoes, a bathing suit, shorts and shirts. Oh, and money. Aloha!!!!!!
“Our new home away from home”
My hubby & I stayed at the Marriott Courtyard last year & we enjoyed it. We were going to stay there again, but noticed the star rating between the 2 hotels were the same. Outrigger Luana Waikiki was a little less in price so we went with it & very happy we did! Our room size was like a studio w/a kitchenette. Small, but very comfortable for the 2 of us. They offerred a room w/a stove & microwave for a little extra, but we didn't need it. It was perfect; we loved the marble tile floors (we hate carpet) & all the extra free amenities such as the mini safe to store our valuables; a kitchenette fully supplied w/actual Mikasa dishes, glasses, silverware, knives, dish rack w/dish soap & a new sponge. It was great; we didn't need to buy paper plates & plasticware. We drove to Costco & stocked up on mango's, papaya's, banana's, h2o & premixed alcohol. It was awesome! We noticed the iron board is tiny, but we didn't need to use it. My hubby thought the pool was small, but perfect enough to just dip in for a quick cool down if you're laying out by the pool. The gym had the perfect amount of cardio & workout equipment. There is a small gift shop in the lobby & the Protea Restaurant serves illy coffee (our favorite). The hotel also has a spa & a laundry room which was so great because I hate packing dirty clothes. Hotel is simply awesome! Everyone (valet, front desk, maintenance, housekeeping, etc) were all so friendly, nice & fun to talk to. We loved it & we'll definitely be back!!!
