Great value hotel with fantastic staff

Posted 07-Nov-2014
Pros: Friendly & helpful staff, close distance to bus stops & Waikiki beach, safe area, clean and sanitary surroundings, free continental breakfast
Cons: More options at the free continental breakfast, quieter air conditioning placed in the middle of the room (it was placed near the side of a bed)
My friend and I stayed at Coconut Waikiki from Oct 25 - Nov 1. From the day we first walked through the doors, the staff were very warm and welcoming, and made our stay a fantastic experience. Although the hotel isn't right across the road from the beach, it is still in a convenient location - major bus stops are only a short walk away, as well as many restaurants. We stayed in room 903. The room was neat, tidy and sanitary - looking almost identical to the photos. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was modest in size. Our balcony had the canal to the right and other buildings in front, and noise was not an issue for us. The staff that made my experience very enjoyable were Kia, Clayton, Raquel, Ronald, James, Marvic & our housekeeping lady (room 903). Clayton was fantastic at giving tips as to what to see at the Polynesian Cultural Centre, which beaches to go to, etc. Kia was a breath of fresh air, always positive and was great at giving tips for places to eat and gave WONDERFUL written map directions!! All staff were always very courteous and professional. We would've been so lost without Kia & Clayton especially, though. We will be forever grateful for their help on our first trip to Honolulu Hawaii. Overall, I am extremely impressed with my experience with Coconut Waikiki and will not hesitate to come back again the next time I am in Honolulu. Mahalo Coconut Waikiki!!

Very central

Posted 23-Oct-2014
Pros: Everthing
Cons: Nothing
Location: Consiergie helpful booked the Luau and Rock a Hula show good fun at both
Superb, hotel had super staff, nice clean room overlooking canal and mountains, with microwave and fridge, 5 mins from bus stop. easy access on public transport to go round the island and see Pearl Harbour, Queen Emma's summer palace, and super Bishop Museum, which is near a shopping centre with cheaper eating places, supermarket, and chemists. Public transport is cheap and easy to go from the airport to hotels number 19 bus, from arrivals take the lift to the upper level and all the buses are there, cheaper than taxi ect.

Kia at the front desk was great. Housekeeping not

Posted 20-Oct-2014
Kia was a breath of fresh air. Excellent at customer service. The others should learn from him. He made our stay more enjoyable. The water and tea with fruit was great. Housekeeping was lacking.

Hotel Just Ok, but staff was great!

Posted 20-Oct-2014
Pros: Most of the front desk staff was great. I would like to mention Kia, who always remembered what room I was in & offered tons of advice on what to do.
Cons: Cleanliness, general upkeep.
Location: Lewers street had tons of restaurants and is a straight shot to the beach. Hotel is in the heart of Waikiki.
I stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks in Oct 2014. Hotel is older & upkeep is needed. Minor cosmetic renovations have been done, however, you can tell they are just putting band aids on where needed when they should do some major overhauling of the property. During my stay I was in 2 rooms, both with mountain views (405 and 1004). Room 405 was significantly smaller than 1004. The first week I was in room 405. During this time the light switch for the bathroom light broke & they had to replace the card reader on the door. Neither of these were large issues, however, they are inconvenient and show the small this that need to be upgraded but haven't been. The bed in this room was uncomfortable, but I managed. The thing that really bothered me about this room was the noise. This hotel is on the corner of Lewers and Ala Wai. Lewers is a great street with lots of restaurant (a plus for the location), however, Ala Wai is a noisy street. At night you would hear sirens and the noise of cars, & I am not a light sleeper. The second week I was relocated to the top floor (10th). This room was better. The room was larger, quieter & the bed was much more comfortable. There were a few minor issues with the room. 1 - the bathroom door that wouldn't stay open. Because the a/c unit is in a weird place the area by the bathroom would get very hot, so you want the door open. I got used to things not being up to snuff and stuck a some napkins under the door to keep it open.

Nice Small Hotel Facing the Canal

Posted 16-Oct-2014
Pros: The included breakfast good and convenient. We used to go around in taxis and the front desk was very efficient at calling the taxi for us.
Cons: The concierge would avoid eye contact if and when he was there. Always with the phone against his ear and body language saying not to bother him.
Location: Liked the location. About 10 minute walk to Kuhio Beach and in the midst of the hustle and bustle of Waikiki area.
We stayed in a mountain view room and enjoyed watching the canoes rowing in the canal across from the hotel. The convenience store "ABC" was a very short walk ....great to pick up snacks etc. The room was tired but comfortable and clean.

Mediocre hotel in perfect location

Posted 15-Oct-2014
Pros: What I liked most about the hotel was how friendly, professional and helpful that staff was and how they spoke to us every time they saw us.
Cons: The rooms definitely need improvement. The room we were assigned was a little cramped for 4 adults.
Location: The location was perfect. It was walking distance to the beach, shopping area, trolley pick up spot for sight seeing and convenience stores.
If you're looking for a top notch hotel like the Marriott, then this hotel is not for you. However, the staff is what won me over. I stayed at this hotel with 3 others and when we arrived we were greeted by Kia. I must say that Kia and all the staff have excellent customer service skills. Kia took his time to welcome us and answer all our questions and concerns. He even offered suggestions on activities that may be of interest to us. The night we arrived it was raining and he offered us each a complimentary umbrella. There was complimentary breakfast serve daily from 6:30-9:30 am. The concierge Clayton was also very helpful. He assisted us in booking a luau.

They are not famous about their breakfast

Posted 10-Oct-2014
Pros: Very friendly and direct staff, good location and view
Cons: Breakfast, and not to let run out of anything - anytime.
Location: Center of the strip, restaurants, everything.
Good location, really friendly staff, fast internet, but terrible breakfast and you always need begging for refill.
