    “great place”

we have stayed at the Sunset several times, never a disappointment, always a pleasure :)

    Area recommendations
I recomment staying at the Diamond Head side of town. It isn't as upscale, doesn't cater to the international traveler looking for high end products.

    “Nice hotel !”

The service was great ! Rooms were mainitained & cleaned daily. The kitchen had all the necessary cookware for cooking ! My only complaint would be that the rooms did not have wireless. Had to sit on the desk to access the internet

    “Dated and poor service”

We would not stay here again. The hotel is fairly dated and in need of upgrading. Our experience was made worse for several reasons. Firstly, after our 5 hour flight, our room was not ready for 3pm as advertised, on the first night someone came into room while we were sleeping as the hotel had allocated the room again. On the plus side, the hotel is conveniently located near to Waikiki beach. There are lots of hotels so we think we could do better next time.

    “Good Value”

Room was great for what we paid. We traveled with 3 adults, a 13 and 8 year old and fit comfortably in a two double bed, one bedroom room with fold out sofa bed. Room had a nicely updated kitchen that helped keep the food bill down. Mattresses are wore out and need replaced though. Location to diamond head and beach Awesome!! Two small blocks from beach and a short bus trip to diamond head. We were going on a budget so for the money it met our needs perfectly. If going again I would save up and stay just west of the beach much nicer places on that side. After dark down by Waikiki beach I was not comfortable walking with my 8 year old to get back to our hotel room. A lot of homeless came out and people you just don't want your children around.

    Area recommendations
We would stay on a different island if going back. We just didn't expect to see as much poverty as we did. Also to stay on Oahu we would stay just west of Waikiki beach. We tended to walk down that way every night to shop and go to restraunts.
    Getting around
Rent a car. Take a shuttle into town and rent a car in town then you don't have to pay airport fee on the rental. City bus isn't bad it will get you anywhere you want to go except north shore but you will be on it for an hour. It makes several stops. We road the bus to diamond head, pearl harbor, aloha stadium, and airport. Took forever
    Shopping
Go to the aloha stadium on Sunday to the flee market. 7 t-shirts for $20. Nice t-shirts too. Colorful bags, luggage just tons of souvenir shopping cheap!
    Dining
    Expensive!!!

“Very nice, quiet, front desk very helpful in most cases”

Everything went well. There is a mandatory (all hotels) $10 daily fee for a bundle of stuff: daily newspapers, use of room telephones that one agrees to up front, use of Internet connections, DVD TV, etc., etc. We had a problem with the Internet connection. We called and went to Front Desk five times (five days) and got "we'll get back to you on that." They didn't/couldn't. But they agreed to give us a 50% reduction off the daily bundle, which we thought was fair. Other than that the Front Desk and cleaning crew were wonderful. The hotel's tour guide guy was amazing and set us up with three great tours on different days: (Pearl Harbor, a Luau, and dinner boat cruise at sunset) Nice condo, clean, enough space. My lady-friend guest is a whiz at computers. She took what she thought was the broken part (a blue cable) to the lobby. They gave her a new part. It worked. She is one determined gal. I would recommend the Aston Waikiki Sunset hotel/condo facility to anyone. A fair price for a good product. Expedia created a nice package for us at a money-saving price. The traffic in Honolulu/Waikiki is humongous at rush hour. Lotta time spent on tour buses, but I'm still glad we didn't have/use a car. All-in-all, great adventure/memories. Thank you, Expedia and Aston Waikiki Sunset. ;-)

“great value, great location, nicely renovated suite”

Don't be deceived by the slightly worn look of the lobby and hallways - the service and staff are excellent, our 29th floor suite was spotless and very nicely renovated. Included amenities are on par with other stays we have had in Waikiki - the pool, hospitality room with wifi, in-room internet, a convenience store on site, lobby security, and great views. We made good use of the full kitchen and enjoyed the extra space of an apartment v.s. a hotel room - very family friendly. Only two blocks away from the main street of Waikiki, this location is close to the beach, trolleys, city bus, restaurants and shopping without all the noise.

“Okay but could have been better”

Charged for parking, charged for internet, about 4 blocks from beach, no restaurant, tiny on-site shop with little to offer, had a pool and tennis court (but looked like so did everywhere else), slow elevators, would recommend getting a hotel that includes free parking, free wi-fi (was free in one little room off the pool area) and was closer to the beach, restaurants, shops, etc.

    Area recommendations
Seeing the lava flow on Big Island - didn't get to see any red stuff erupting, but still worth the trip. Avoid the main arterials - they are horrendous - pick the smaller roads.

    “1st visit to Hawaii”

This was my husband's and I first trip to Hawaii. With so many hotels to choose from, I decided on a condo so we weren't constanly eating out. We arrived late at night, and the staff was very friendly upon our arrival. We were on the 30th floor, directly across from the elevator. The condos come with a fully furnished kitchen as stated (dishes, eating utensils, coffee maker, dishwashing liquid, and even a rice cooker!) I would suggest that you pack some spices (ie: salt, pepper, mrs. dash, etc) if you plan on doing any cooking, because none is provided. It was a little mildew smelly upon first entering the room, but open the windows, or bring Febreeze as I did, and spray and you should be okay. There is a convience store on the 5th floor, an ABC store 1 block away, and a Food Pantry grocery store approx 4-5 blocks away. Location is great, the beach and buses/trolleys is 1block away, Starbucks is 2 blocks away, which is also where the Honolulu zoo is located. Everywhere is easily accessible from where the condos are located. Will definitely use again

    Getting around
Use the trolleys or busses ($2.25) they take you anywhere you want to go. Rent a car if you want to sightsee. Parking in most hotels/condos charge a daily rate $11/day or more.
    What to pack
Bring sunscreen and pack tennis shoes if you plan on walking a lot, or hiking. Bring old tennis shoes, don't try to break in new ones.
    Must see
Do the Diamond Head Hike (the red trolley will take you there,, and pick you up) Its a one mile hike, and takes approx. 20-25 minutes, but the view from the top is awesome. Don't wear flip-flopsor sandals if you do this! Wear tennis shoes!!!
    Shopping
Shopping is in abundance. The International Market and Waikiki Strip is a 10 minute walk. You can ride the pink trolley for $2.00 each way to the Ala Moana Mall. ABC stores are everywhere and sell everything that you might have forgotten to pack, or a last minute item you might need.
    Events and shows
Try to catch a Luau before you return home. We chose the luau at Paradise Cove, it was very good
    Other
There is actually an expedia office that I found while out walking. Its located at Aston Wakiki Beach Hotel. Since I didnt book any activities online,(due to the fact that it can be quite overwhelming) I was very happy to find this office. They will book everything for you, they know which places are good, and which to stay away from. Every place that they recommended to me did not disappoint. and you can buy tickets there for anything your little heart desires....

“a great week at the Aston Sunset”

We could not complain about anything here. The staff were efficient and friendly. The beds perfect and a great view.

    Area recommendations
The Waikiki area is vibrant. As many shops and restaurants you would ever need. The beach and parks great. TheBus a great way to get around. For $2.50 you can go around the whole island (4 hour trip!)
    Getting around
TheBus is great . You can buy a $25 ticket for 4 days unlimited travel. We did. It saves you looking for change. We found that the Sealife bus 23 and 22, however were very crowded mid morning

    “Can recommend to a friend”

The views on the higher floors are great. Two bedroom with Diamond head and ocean view is really nice.

    Area recommendations
This is not a long walk to the beach, and Waikiki has shops pretty much all over the place. The International Marketplace is not too far either. I would recommend Waikiki area overall.
    Family-friendly activities
With water sports acitivities, opt for the value combo deals, you will save money. Also go for hotels with a kitchen, this will help with big families who can't afford to eat out for every meal. Big retailers are not too far away, so if you can rent a car, that will help also.
