“Did not quite meet expectations.”

We had seen the lovely picture of Eastwood Hall and the facilities. We really looked forward to our stay. Unfortunately most of the rooms, the dining room and bar are not in the old Hall. They are in a huge sprawling modern extension. The hotel has a large number of big wedding/function rooms in the modern part of the hotel, two of which were in use whilst we were there. The wedding rooms lead off the bar areas with wedding buffets next to the bar. This means that you feel like you are gate crashing someones wedding if you go for a drink! This also made the hotel very noisy with loud music and very jolly wedding guests partying in the hall ways when trying to locate there rooms once the music had stopped! The swimmining facilities are only available to children at very restricted times. This doesn't just cover very young children but also anyone under 18!. By the time we had checked in for a quiet relaxing break (?) my 14 year old could not come swimming with us! We therefore didn't use those facilities.

“Not worth the extra cost”

Paid extra for what was expected to be a hotel with atmosphere, but might as well have booked a travelodge! Rooms very similar to Travelodge - and we chose tp pay the extra for a superiar room - not worth the extra! It was plesent enough, but our room was a very very long walk from reception! On arrival the car park was covered in thick ice (and all surrounding pubilc roads were clear). We came back with friend in the evening and there was 500 person party in progress (and these seemed to be advertised for most weekend evenings). We hoped to buy a coffe from the bar but this took some effort! Our shower suffered a lack of water pressure (as did the toilet) which was probaly something to do with the VERY long corridors. Also although the bed linen was clean, the quilt did not have a cover, just a sheet and a throw. Overall, I would say this was not work paying extra for.

Getting around
Nottingham has an excellent Park and Ride Bbus service, running every 10 mins over Christmas.

“Good value in lovely parklike setting.Very spread out buildings rather like airport terminal walking”

Very comfortable room with a well lit bathroom. Minor gripes. Only one coffee mug in a double room, no TV Remote Control both problems corrected in 10 mins. Shower screen let water through on to the floor and had black mould around its base. Four low level lights on the path to the car park where not working. The wardrobe space is minuscule two overcoats would fill it. Most annoying of all was being advised to drive to tha car park from reception but as we later saw the frame for directions to the bedrooms was there but the sign was missing so we ended up back in reception with our luggage in the rain!!.

“Top Notch”

This was our second stay at Eastwood Hall and we enjoyed it just as much as before. As soon as you walk into the hotel you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere but infact you are only 100 metres from the main road. With the hotel surrounded by large trees and lawns it is so relaxing and walking around the grounds is nice and romantic with your partner. The hotel leisure facilities are the best anyone could ever wish for and you do not have to pay extra for them unlike some top hotels. Eastwood Hall have got it just right and the best hotel I have ever stayed in. Looking forward to booking our next weekend there.

Area recommendations
We caught a bus into Nottingham City Centre and the bus stop is only about 25 Metres from the entrance into Eastwood Hall. We were told to ask for a Supersavers ticket and it only cost us £3.60 return each, great value. Arriving at Nottingham Victoria bus station and not knowing really where we were going we just followed the rest of the people and ended up in the Victoria Shopping Centre which is full of some top shops. Walking out of Victoria Shopping Centre we tried some of the bars in Nottingham which were very traditional but nice. In the market place there was the festival on and you try different types of food.
When to go
I feel the best time to go is a Friday afternoon and stay for two nights. By arriving Friday afternoon the leisure facilities are quieter than a Saturday afternoon.

“Good value for money”

Good value for money. Even though the hotels is very focussed on conferences, it did not feel too corporate.

“Very nice”

We had 2 nights in this hotel and everything was very nice. Hotel smart, well presented. Staff were all very nice especially the ladies at breakfast. Room was good; clean, a good size and it was quiet. Breakfast was excellent - a good choice and food all hot and fresh. A little slow to get a seat on the Sunday morning - but hotel was totally full to capacity. Our only complaint was that the children were not allowed to use the swimming pool (kids could only use it betweeen the ridiculous hours of 1-2pm) As we had specifically booked a hotel that had an indoor pool, this was a disappointment as it wasnt clear on the hotel information page. Receptionist was apologetic - but couldnt change the rules. Apart from that disappointment - the hotel was great and we would highly recommend.

“Value Break”

Hotel was very "sprawlin" therefore it was a long way to walk to the rooms, this was mentioned in other reviews before we booked therefore it was expected. The layout of the Hotelas a conference centre with many rooms and conference/wedding rooms dictates the nature of the building. Once this is accepted the hotel is an excellent place to stay for a "chill out" week end which is what we required. Leisure centre, fitness, snooker for entertainment and in spite of all the wedding the service and food in the resaurant was very good. The attention to dietery (Coeliac/Gluten intolerant) was accomodated without fuss to remain with a varied menu. Check out was a little slow with only one receptionist at the main check out time, however, this was the only minor negative point. The price paid through expedia was very good value for money and we cwertainly received our chill out weekend.

Traveller's tip
You would actually be better asking for a room as far away as possible (albeit a long walk) if you require a quite time as the wedding parties produced expected noise in the rooms closer to reception, they did stop after 12.00 midnight.

“Good hotel”

Hotel was good value for money. Clean room and hotel, good staff. Access is not easy if you do not have car. But if you have car, I would recommend.

“Would recommend”

We stayed the whole weekend and didn't leave the hotel as everything was catered for. We made full use of the tennis courts, swimming pool and steam room and the staff were friendly and very helpful. Dinner and breakfast were both of a very good standard.

Traveller's tip
If you're going out in Nottingham town centre, this may not be the hotel for you as it's a 30 minute journey into Nottingham.
