Learn about Spokane’s history and American Indian culture at this impressive museum.

Tour five galleries featuring collections of unique cultural material and fine art at the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture. Dedicated to Spokane’s history, the museum is best known for its preeminent collection of American Indian artifacts, which includes works by living American Indian artists. Save time to explore the beautiful interior of the adjacent Campbell House, a grand English Tudor–revival mansion.

Set in an eye-catching glass-and-wood building, the museum focuses on three major disciplines: American Indian cultures, fine art and regional history. Take in views of Spokane River from the museum’s striking glass foyer and explore the fascinating audiovisual displays and artifacts that comprise the museum’s permanent collection. Find out if any temporary exhibitions are taking place.

Discover the Regional History Collection, which includes exhibitions of textiles and clothing dating from the mid-19th century to the present. Visit the associated Campbell House complex for deeper insight into everyday life during this time period. Designed by notable American architect Kirtland Kelsey Cutter, this house museum preserves the history of the Campbell mining family and other notable Spokane residents. Group tours include visits to the gilded French reception room and the elegant library.

View regional paintings in the museum’s fine art collection. This collection features contemporary works by renowned regional artists, including Patti Warashina, Doug Safranek, Kristen Capp and James Lavadour. Head to the American Indian collection to see over 10,000 photographic images depicting Plateau Indian culture.

End your visit with a stop at the Museum Store. Browse a lovely selection of handmade items and jewellery, as well as books focused on Inland Northwest history and culture. Relax with a Turkish coffee at the museum’s café, which features picturesque views of Spokane.

The Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture is located about 1 mile (2 kilometres) from the centre of Spokane. Free parking is available in the museum’s large lot. The cost of admission includes access to all galleries and the adjacent Campbell House.
