locked out of hotel at 11pm....no one at reception
I had worked in London on Saturday the 12 th...caught a train up to Kettering...a town I had not been to before.I was expected at a pub in Broughton at 7pm for a surprise 50th birthday party.so caught a taxi to the designated birthday venue expecting to check into the Royal upon my return later in the evening....having paid I did not think this would be a problem.BIG MISTAKE!!!!!No one was in attendance to unlock the door to the hotel...after 5 minutes of banging on the door I caught another taxi to the Holiday Inn....a further £12 in a taxi....with another £12 paid out to return to the railway station in the morning for my return journey to London

Cheap hotel in town centre
Difficult to find due to no signs on the frontage. Phoned for directions but took a long time to answer due to only one staff on duty. No bar available. Décor very tired

Our night away
It was fine,hotel is run down but in centre of town so ideal for shopping and clubbing.(No four poster bed or deep bath tub tho only standard) abit disapointed but standard and wouldn't mind staying again.

the Royal in Kettering
Room had an musty smell, the TV did not work properly and the lock to the room was of poor quality. The car park had an old mattress lying on the ground at the entrance which didn't give a good first impression. The night porter needs a lesson in manners. Worst of all at 9pm on my return to the hotel,i found a fire door was propped open to prevent it from banging !

The hotel is obviously being refurbished but the management are missing all the things they could get right. The breakfast was not supervised and everything ran out, The bed and bedding was good but the room was not clean behind units etc.The car park and rear parking area was 3rd world with litter everywhere.

Missed Opportunities to impress.
Not great. No hot breakfast - kitchen out of action - misleadingly, this was not flagged up to me when I booked. No appliances plugged in. I wasn't woken up as requested, so overslept - consequently, couldn't even have a cold, European-style breakfast before hurrying out to start my working day. Suffice to say, I won't be hurrying back there any time soon. On a positive note, I left my wallet in my room and they called me as soon as a maid had discovered it - returned safe with £60 cash and cards still therein.

Noisy hotel all night
Hotel very noisy all night with people up & down the corridor & talking loudly, not the place to stay as a solo female on a Saturday night. The bed it self was very uncomfortable

This is a definitely a 2star hotel
Needs decorating desperately and windows were filthy but good location, good breakfast, friendly staff. Good for a nights stop off. Has a bar in sister hotel a few doors down.

Royal Kettering needing some royal love
Greeted by a very friendly chap. He was efficient but from the off I sensed I was in for a bad experience. The hotel needs a total refurb. I can see they have been trying to stay legally compliant but the facilities in my room were in a desperate state. The TV is fine the bed is ok. There are: 1 stains on the wall 2 tv was unplugged and the satallite connection was disconnected from the tv and was pulled away from the wall showing masonry 3 there was a muscky damp smell 4) bathroom was uncomfortable to be in as it was falling apart. It was cleaned but not at any standard you would expect as a paying guest. Mixer tap lose. Tap not shutting water off properly no sink plug. Get the feeling that the bathroom has all kinds of issues hidden under the lino and Bath panel. 5 shower holder was loose from wall 6 dare not operate the window as there was a warning sign on A4 not to open window too high 7 when you sit on the toilet you realise something is not right as you gaze out of the window without a curtain; I guess that's why the en suite door is left open to help block out the window 8) the dysfunctional bar/dinner Hall.... 9 the breakfast.... 10 cruddy car park 11 forgot to mention there was a huge crack in the bathroom ceiling that bowed in Like I said this hotel needs renovating. It could make so much more money. It's a Victorian build I'm led to believe. In the middle of the market place. So location is brilliant. Right investor could do so well

One of the worst places I've ever stayed
Hotel smelt damp, room not as pictured, floor creaked very loudly over whole room, toilet was broke wouldn't flush, window was higher than curtain and street light straight outside shining through, no double glazing so could hear the drunks on the street outside till 3am, doors slamming all through night and had to park on wasteland, wouldn't recommend

DISCUSTING....AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!!!
Well i only have one word to sum up this hotel...DISCUSTING!! The bed was like a ski slope when laid down your legs where higher than your head. The towels where that old they had holes in them and had frayed around the edges. The furniture was falling apart the wallpaper was hanging off and mold was growing. The curtains and netting where ripped and hanging off. And to top off our stay our vehicle had been broken into on the night. I'd never go anywhere near this hotel again!!

This thing called hotel needs to be closed down.
Show me a worse hotel in UK and I will change my name to Royal Kettering Hotel. Zero star is a disservice. I should be allowed to give - star. From the moment we arrived at the car park we knew we have just thrown away £60. There was no hot water. The hotel had a horrible smell. I don't even know why it's still called a hotel

Poor accommodation!
It is a very tired looking hotel which had a very funny smell to it from the minute you arrive. At check in we were given no details whatsoever just here's your key and a rough idea of where to find the room. Our duvet cover had a blood stain on it and the rooms were very basic with several stains on floor etc. I think it needs modernising and gutting as it was far from royal. There are some lovely places to eat around here thumbs up to the Indian restaurant which was amazing and was very close to where we needed to be. Would definitely not stay here again though!

HOSTEL not a hotel. don not book.
checked out immediately read the reviews left before booking. This hotel should not still be on hotels.com it is not a suitable accommodation to book people into. it is as stated by others also partly run as a hostel. HOTELS.COM take note of peoples reviews and remove poor quality establishments from your website this will save you having to refund them for not providing the service you state.

old and tired,thats exactly what this hotel is,and young teenagers in reception shouting and swearing, for £65.00, a twin room you should be able to get a warm breakfast ,it wasn't even a continental breakfast . I thought I was in a local DHSS lodgings?

A jaded Victorian building well past its prime.
We were upgraded to the 'Royal Suite' looked OK but peeling wallpaper due to damp and a strong musty damp smell throughout. Attempts to allow air in not helped by jammed windows. Hotel Bar not operational despite all the pumps being lit up. TV in room not working.

This is a nice old building in central Kettering but needs to be refurbished. It has no lift and no rooms on the ground floor! This is not good for the mobility impaired. The hotel has no restaurant (in the 'blurb' it said it had its own restaurant), but there are some eateries nearby. There is a nightclub very near and the noise is considerable Room: the carpet was dirty; the net curtains were in tatters along the sides and looked dirty. The TV was not working properly. One of the central lights (a cluster of 4) was not working and there were no bedside lights nor any way to turn off the central light from the bed. Bathroom: the back handle of the bath was very loose; the shower head holder tied to the fitting with a piece of chain from a plug; the handle of the toilet could be pulled right out; the light over the mirror not working. The bed was comfortable enough, but there were marks on the cream coloured cover and on the sheets.

it was so bad I moved to another hotel. there were drunks and police, bar closed, dining room closed .This hotel is now a hostel and be advised to stay away from it.

We needed a bed for the night due to attending a wedding locally, this hotel fits the bill but it is desperately in need of renovation this said the room albeit dated and tired was clean and had all the usual requirements en-suite, tea and coffee facilities, flat screen tv and toiletries etc.. Biggest criticism was not being able to contact via phone had to get email address from Expedia to arrange early check in. Very accomodating once in touch.

Last minute booking. Cheap triple room. Hotel now very dated but room was clean and comfortble. Very basic continental breakfast. Fire alarm kept going off late in the evening.
