Sycamore Guest House
Went to York to see Christmas market,so looked for somewhere that was a a short walk from the centre. This is a quaint period property that is privately run. The host was very helpful and nothing was too much bother. Would certainly stay there again.

Great spot for all York's attractions
Very well placed but quiet spot close to all of York's sights and only 10 minutes from train station. Fabulous breakfast and both Spiros and his son were great hosts. If you like antique furniture and quirkiness whilst retaining the essential mod cons you'll love this b&b.

Cosy weekend away
Our host Stavros was an excellent host from start to finish. He made us feel so welcome. room very small but very clean, external bathroom small but fine for us. guest house in general very dated , however this gave us the comfortable cosy feel.

Decent stay with some disappointments
Host was nice enough, and location was good. Can’t speak for other rooms. But my room in particular was on the top floor, was really small and had a detached private bathroom that was also small and inconvenient. Although the bathroom situation was disclosed, the tight spaces and inconvenient access were not. I also needed to leave very early and made the room available for most of my stay and wasn’t offered even part of the payment back. I realize that’s policy. But some flexibility considering the very early departure would have been nice.

I cannot praise the hosts and property enough. They are both so welcoming & did everything to ensure we had a fabulous stay. Easy walk to town , permit parking £2 , breakfasts amazing. I will be back for sure. Definitely recommended

On hotel.com it’s advertising you can check in at 9am but when we got there they said it was 2:30pm😒 so was impressed. I was not the fault of the guest house they said they hotel.com would let them change it! Also after a 2-1/2hour drive we asked if we could use a toilet and where told we had to use the one in town! Other then that room was comfort and clean. Breakfast was amazing and where very attentive!

The sycamore guesthouse
If you want a good place to stay in York this is the place .hosts very helpful and friendly they cannot do enough for you the rooms are spotless and the breakfast is great it will set you up for the day.

This little hidden gem is just outside the walls of the old city of York, yet is walking distance to all the historic sites and to the train station. The building is a quaint old house. Our room was clean, comfortable, and exquisitely decorated. The full English breakfast was delicious. The hostess and host were helpful with advice, accommodating and kind!

This is a wonderful B&B in one of the prettiest cities in the UK. Very central in terms of location. The owners make everyone feel at home and the breakfasts are amazing! Definitely would recommend this guest house to those wishing to explore York and the surrounding area.

The hosts of the Sycamore were just delightful. They made us feel like a cross between guests and family. Elizabeth cooks each guest’s breakfast to order and the food is delicious and beautifully presented. It is an easy walk into the city from the Sycamore and they made sure we were armed with a map and instructions.

The Sycamore Guest house was perfect with a beautiful and comfortable room along with a yummy English Breakfast each morning. Quaint old English charm with modern conveniences. Close to the rail station and perfect walking distance to all historical sights in York! Elizabeth and her husband were wonderful hosts and would stay here again!!

The bedroom we had was on the small side and the en-suite was very tight. Never the less we managed. The bed itself was not the most comfortable. Breakfast was excellent.

Room was lovely and clean. Very quiet hotel, good if you want peace and quiet. Bathroom was over the corridor. Not really ideal, but it is what it is, Owners every friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good.

The hotel is very convenient for York centre. We had a nice breakfast and the owners husband was very nice to us. The picture of our room on booking was not the room we were given. Our room was very dated and sadly there was an underlying smell to the room. We had twin beds that were very solid and quilts that were sadly not long enough or wide enough for us. The bathroom was tiny with a hot water pipe that almost burned my bum when sitting on the loo which was very strange. We had to cover it with a towel. There were cobwebs and dust in the room. Overall, as this is stated as a 4 star hotel, I have to say that it is in great need of an update to be anything like 4 star.

Location & Staff quality & knowledge
Perfectly located hotel just outside the city centre - approx. 5-10 min. The staff were excellent from day one of our stay; Spyros and Elizabeth made us feel very welcome and were very polite. As well as their excellent customer service, they had excellent and very accurate knowledge on attractions to visit in York, the best way/s to travel to and from each attraction and time it’ll take to travel.

This hotel is very good. The people are friendly and helpful, and the breakfast is good. It is only a short walk to the main sights of York. The only drawback was that you had to pay cash for the room because their credit card machine was not working.

Cosy affordable b&b near York City Center
The host’s son and grandson carried our bags to our room. Our king room at the Sycamore was clean and small, but adequate. The room was a bit warm during the European heat wave because it was not air conditioned. The shower and one electric outlet needed repair. Our host, Spiro fixed them promptly. A delicious full English breakfast was served at 8:30 am each morning. Please note that guest rooms are upstairs at the Sycamore without a lift. People who cannot handle stairs should stay elsewhere. Otherwise, the Sycamore is a good budget option close to York’s historic city center.

Lovely house & very convenient for the city
Parking outside & didn't need to use the car for 3 days we were visiting York. Very accommodating & friendly, superb breakfast to set us up for the day in the city, also close to riverside walk . Lovely location. Loved it thank you so much

This is a quintessential English guest house run impeccably by Elizabeth and Spiro. The atmosphere they provide is authentically welcoming and charming. Elizabeth is available for her guests' requests, including breakfast choices, places to visit, directions, etc. As a woman traveling alone, it was easy for me to feel comfortable and at home here. The guest house is located in a quiet area, with a beautiful walk through museum gardens leading to the heart of York. I would definitely return to The Sycamore!

Nice location close to the train station and the medieval city, making exploring very easy. Breakfast service is generous and tasty. Lack of air conditioning was felt on my visit as the weather was extremely hot, but it wouldn't be an issue with typical York weather.
