Historical hotel with a grand staircase

Pros: position to town and amenities
Cons: 3rd floor corridor floor joists & boards needs serious attention several were loose and moved when walking on, carpet could be a trip hazard.
Location: very pleasant views of south bay and next to cliff tramway.
Food good although restaurant was large and typical of large hotels, no tables are secluded or intimate, for celebrations etc. The decor was being kept painted, but carpets on bedroom corridors showed age along with wear & tear of a very old building

It's not far from the beach, however it does need refurbishment. Food wasn't that good. Vegetables were solid and slow service when it wasn't that busy, turkey was nice however. Would go to Scarborough again but would use a different hotel.

Awful disgusting. Filthy.no telly, windows have been cleaned for months.bath towels full of hairs.shower head falling off.reported all this, and was told we got the room cheap.

Pros: good location.staff helpful.entertainment good Sat night.
Cons: Better organised or more staff for meal times/bar
Location: overlooking bay.Spa theatre near/shopping/beach
hotel typical 3*seen better days but satisfactory.no carpark was inconvienent.large queues at meal times.problems with my bar meal(burnt) but wifes ok.

Pros: A lovely atmospher.
Cons: More staff particularly at meal times, the waitresses seemed to be hurried, but still did a terrific job.
Location: Lovely location. Easy to reach the sea front.
The Royal maybe old but the overall stay was really good. Very friendly and helpful staff. Meals were excellent and very well presented. The rooms are dated but Britania are making every effort to update them when possible. Overall our stay was very good and we will make a return visit. .

Cons: The pool facilities pool great but no spa or sauna working could do with staff
Location: Plenty of shops resturante s. Beach marina
Hotel in a good position but had scafolding at window had to pay for pool facilities spa and sauna not working no staff available for help. Staff at reception didn't really help much all wrong information regarding parking had to park in N C P cost £20 then £10 for pool on a lighter note the breakfast was very good and the room was very spacious and clean

Pros: Building itself has huge potential, sea views and it centrally located. Staff friendly and helpful.
Cons: Wifi coverage has to extend to all floors. Decorate - the leaking roof and mold adds nothing to this classic building. Breakfast service
This is an amazing building but in desperate need of refresh and repair. The staff were friendly and welcoming but this hotel is very much about servicing low-cost coach parties, not business travellers. Parking is difficult (not the hotel's fault) unless you're happy to use a NCP carpark 5 minutes walk away but which closes between 2000 and 0630. Wifi - I was there for business but the wifi does not extend beyond the ground floor. Wildlife - nesting seagulls on the window ledge made the early morning a noisy experience. Breakfast - potentially good buffet selection but under-staffed and slow to refresh empty breakfast items (it took 25 minutes to refill the empty orange juice dispenser and refill the bacon tray).

Terrible parking

We had to park at the NCP half a mile away.... This was not ideal as we arrived at 8pm after a long day out...we should have been made aware of this when booking.

Excellent position and sea room we had was excellent, as indeed were all the staff. Unfortunately there is no parking and it is quite a hike to the nearest secure park. The problem for the hotel is that it is very, very, tired and in desperate need of painting, cleaning and updating. It is appreciated this is serious money but this is also 2014 and there is strong competition around and newer facilities being introduced. Given the hotels position, plus its sister hotel next door, unless something is done in the near term it will close, be converted to flats, or changed to a shopping mall....which would be a great pity since the place oozes with old charm and character.
