Hotel perfection

Posted 17-Jun-2015
Pros: Location and facilities
Cons: Nothing!
Location: Central York, so take your pick!
Could not be faulted in any way. Staff were so friendly and helpful, spa was lovely and room (we had the basic room which is hardly basic) was superb.

Nicest Hotel I've Ever Stayed In

Posted 06-Jun-2015
Pros: location, accommodations, service
Location: close to train station, rivers, city wall, York Minster, Jorvik museum, Betty's, Bullivant, Trembling Madness was our favorite pub
I stayed in this hotel with my wife and my parents for two nights while we were traveling around England. As I said, this is the nicest hotel I've ever stayed in. It is classy and luxurious without becoming snobby. My wife and I travel internationally about twice annually, whereas my parents hadn't done so in over a decade, but we were all very comfortable in every respect. I suppose that previously booking lodging in London got me softened up and ready to pay for it, but this hotel was hardly the most expensive of our trip. The location is a very easy walk to the York train station as well as to all the attractions of the old part of town and the best pubs. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The spa features a very nice pool area with steam room and sauna, and the exercise room is small but very efficiently put together. My parents are disabled, but their room on the first floor was perfectly accessible without any compromise in style or luxury. All of the staff were extremely accommodating and seemed genuinely warm and friendly. Darren really stood out (literally and figuratively) but everyone with whom we interacted was wonderful. Perfect - hope to return at some point in the future.

Grand Spa - go!

Posted 02-Jun-2015
Pros: Peace and quiet
Cons: Less chlorine!
Pool great - too much chlorine but that is an occupational hazard in a hotel pool. Staff very helpful and not too obsequious, room very comfortable and spacious, breakfast excellent. Bed really comfortable.

great place

Posted 25-May-2015
Pros: Everything. Such great staff.
Cons: Nothing
Location: Located close to York Station and just on the edge of the city. We visited the York Castle museum ( brilliant ) yorvik centre and the railway museum.
Location perfect for train arrivals. Staff really helpful. Spa beautiful. Our room was really nice, got a free upgrade. Would recommend this hotel without question. York, being quite a small city, was on our doorstep. Plenty to do, great museums and friendly pubs. Will return and definitely stay at The Grand

Pros: Everything actually. Lip balm provided on turn down. Cups and T pots washed up in the evening so that you can awake to fresh china. Just lovely.
Cons: Nothing
Location: The Jorvik centre is so interesting and interactive with friendly, informative staff. The Minster is worth a trip and lots of great eating out places.
The staff at this hotel and super helpful and courteous without being obtrusive. There are lovely touches provided for guests which elevate the experience from good to amazing and the location is excellent for the wonderful city of York.

Dreadfully noisy room

Posted 16-May-2015
Have stayed many times. Always perfect till this time. Avoid room 4. Woken at 4.10am by local night club revellers followed by what I think was deliveries below us. No more sleep and glad to get home. Lovely breakfast as usual.
