“How can it be only a 3 start hotel!”

We booked the Churchill as the reviews looked good and the location seemed perfect. As it was only a 3 star hotel we were expecting little more than a roof over our head in a good area but were amazed at how much better the hotel was! The staff were helpful and friendly at all times. The room, although fairly small, was very clean and modern. The shower was a lovely walk in type with loads of jets coming out at all angles! The beds were cosy with lovely thick duvets. The location could not have been better as it only took 5 mins to walk into the town. The hotel has its own car park which saves a fortune in parking fees. In summary I cannot imagine that there is a better low budget hotel in Bath, if we go back we will stay again!

“YOU COULD DO WORSE”

The hotel is a handsome building and it's very well placed for the city centre and only 15 minutes on foot from the station (if you know the route!) The staff were very pleasant but the rooms are small, the bathroom handsome but poorly designed and the breakfast at £10 a head is okay but not great. Free wifi was promised but it didn't work in our room. The bed and towels were fine but the coverlet didn't bear examination. Hotels near the centre of York are pricey and, as we said, you could do certainly do worse.

“Superbly located hotel”

very comfortable ideal location just on the outskirts of the city walls within easy walking distance of York Minster and the rest of the city. parking in grounds of hotel was a bonus as in city parking frankly needs a mortgage to stay just for half a day! room spotless, although a little small, but for only one night was adequate shower and bathroom excellent, staff fantastic although seemed a bit busy most of the time and were a little hard to find or were busy so having to wait for them was a little irksome, only criticism I could really levy at the hotel is the early finish for breakfast, ending at 09.30 is a bit too early especially if you've just driven 300 miles the day before to get there! so having to walk into city to find breakfast kind of irked a little overall definitely a great hotel I'd stay at again

“Lovely stay”

The hotel was lovely. The room was spacious, looked just like the pictures on the hotel website. And the bathroom was fantastic. There was a nice bar downstairs, so as the weather was bad, we could get back after dinner and enjoy some wine at night. The hotel was was just a short walk into town and close to the minister. Would definitely stay again.

“the best 3* hotel”

this has been the best 3*hotel we have stayed in. I would recommend the luxury rooms especially the one with the unusual feature of the bath in the bedroom.

An excellent hotel and well worth a visit. The luxury room was delightfullyfurnished and an excellent selection at breakfast from the traditional English breakfast to Eggs Benidict. The location of the hotel is a real positive point 5 minutes from York Minster. Staff could not be more helpful Highly recommended for romantic visit

“Brilliant Stay”

The Churchill doesn't fail to live up to expectations, and then go on to exceed them. A warm welcome is followed by an introduction to a beautifully decorated interior, and a charming room that was warm but not stuffy, and had everything you need. Just a ten minute walk into the city centre, the Churchill's surroundings are peaceful at night. Breakfast is cooked to order, just how you like it. The only disappointment was that for the room-rate, an offer of assistance with carrying our luggage up the stairs wouldn't have gone amiss. Smokers will love "Churchill's Bunker" which is the piece de resistance of smoking shelters. Yes, the shelter only has one wall, but yes, the roof starts a foot off the floor. Leather seats and a direct phone line to the bar for drinks and cigars makes this small outhouse of the hotel a taster of things to come once you walk inside.

Area recommendations
The city centre has a good atmosphere on a Saturday night.
Traveller's tip
Be wary of the traffic if you get a taxi from the train station to this hotel. We went for this option but for some reason it was very busy and we got stuck in the one-way system. If you don't have a great deal of luggage and the weather is okay, take a stroll. It should only take fifteen minutes tops.

“Nice hotel, good location”

I would recommend this hotel, it was a good location, where you could easily walk to the centre. The hotel was clean, nicely decorated, very nice bathroom. Although I did not eat at the hotel the bar was very nice. The only negative point with the hotel was that, although i did manage to get a parking space, it was very cramped on the car park.

“Affordable luxury”

Everything about The Churchill was excellent - but a special mention must be made about the bed in our room: to sleep in it was to feel as if you were sleeping on a cloud - heaven after a long day walking the cobble stones of York's delightful laneways.

York, England, United Kingdom: Once enclosed by ancient fortified walls, York offers a wealth of cultural and historical sites, including York Castle, the National Railway Museum, and York Minster, a Gothic cathedral in the city center. The Shambles is a pedestrian-friendly street dating back to mediaeval ages, where it housed butcher shops. Today the scene is less gruesome, with quaint boutiques and tea rooms lining the road.
