Stunning Location

Posted 14-Jun-2015
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing
The Hotel is more 'Poirot' than 'Marple' it is an English Hotel at its best. Very tradional, lovely staff excellent cuisine and really what more. It has a pool, a location to die for golf course and for the energetic wonderful walks in the absolutely stunning North Yorkshire Countryside. If your an early bird and enjoy the lovely breakfast and have a table next to the window the views of Robin Hoods Bay will be guaranteed to get your day onto a good start. I love 'plastic' hotels but this will change you mind and I would thoroughly recommend it - We can't wait to go back.

great location

nice hotel overall slightly dated but they are modernising it. I like good wifi in hotels and even though it was free it was very very slow. rooms nice but very thin walls can hear room above noise especially when bath or toilet used . good hotel but def some flaws

Historic hotel with spectacular sea views.

We broke our walk along the Cinder Track with an overnight stay here. The great deal meant we were placed at the top and rear of the hotel. However, the room was still spacious, with a nice en-suite and sea views. Room decor is a bit basic and dated, but the public rooms demonstrate the former grandeur and we took advantage of the little sauna and swimming pool, which were a great bonus. With a car it is within easy reach of Robin Hoods Bay. The staff were friendly, and breakfast (which is usually about 19.50) was good, in a sea view dining room. Though the paths are a bit uneven, it is well worth a walk to the cliff top garden area to appreciate the magnificent view, take your binoculars if you want to see the seals!

Disappointing

Posted 21-Feb-2015 on Hotels
The hotel staff were not very welcoming, either on arrival or departure. We were not informed what time breakfast was served or where the leisure suite was and that you required a code to access it. The hotelhad a tired appearance and could do with upgrading. I think some of the rooms were being upgraded. We requested a seaview. Which we got. We had rooms on the 3rd floor. This was ok but as it was windy and we were in attic rooms it was quite noisy. The windows were in need of replacement. Double glazing would have been helpful. The room was cold on arrival, there was no hot water but this was rectified.

a room with a great view, and great golf too!

A pleasant short stay, room was clean and spacious with exceptional view of coastline. Staff very friendly and meals good value. Good walks available from hotel to Robin Hood Bay and beyond. My husband lost himself on the nine hole golf course which is free all day to hotel guests. Good value all round for a short winter break, I'm sure we will be coming back again. Well worth staying even for those who think golf a good walk spoilt!
