Convenient Location

Posted 28-Apr-2015
Pros: Location, free alcohol and soft drinks
Cons: mattress, room temperature and curtains
Location: 15 mins gentle stroll into town. Heading down the side streets changes the walk into town from a road to an open park by the river.
Nice hotel in a traditional building. Well designed interior and furniture and bathroom was clean and modern. Nice bonus of complementary alcohol and soft drinks and room had a Tassimo coffee machine. Mattress could have been more comfortable and black out blinds would have probably improved sleep quality. Also room was quite warm and stuffy (in April) so had to sleep with window open. With a busy road outside this meant that sleep was disturbed by cars and motorbikes fairly early in the morning.

Nice York Hotel/B&B

Posted 25-Apr-2015
Location: York is a great historic city. Many things to see and do..
I stayed three nights. The hotel is older and really felt more like a B&B than a hotel. The room was clean and comfortable. Good location about a 10 minute walk from York Minster. The room had a safe and a refrigerator with limited free beverages (two 250 ml bottles of water, one 250 ml beer, and 125 ml bottle of wine. Not a lot but more free stuff than I have ever gotten in any other hotel and yes it was really free). The hotel is multistory and has no elevator so if stairs are an issue be sure to book a room on the ground floor. Overall a pleasant stay and good value.

Great stay at Noir

Posted 11-Apr-2015
Pros: Rooms were nicely decorated, very clean and furnished well. Pleased with the free wifi in room and staff were very welcoming and accommodating
Cons: Location was slightly further from the centre of York than expected but still a walkable distance of about a 12 minutes to the cathedral
Location: Pub and restaurant next door. Quite a few quirky small shops around the area
Rooms were lovely and looked great, price was reasonable, staff were friendly and helpful, overall had a great experience with the hotel and would book to stay again

Compact Rooms

Posted 07-Apr-2015
Pros: The hotel decor and service from staff
Cons: The heating of the compact rooms. I stayed in room 413 and I suspect as it is at the end of the corridor it suffers a little bit
Location: Conveniently close to the centre. 10 minutes walk from the minster where you have access to the entire centre of York
Take note the compact rooms are exactly what they say on the tin! I made a mistake by booking it for a week long business trip when I should have paid the extra and stayed in a standard double or other. The room itself was great if you were on a 1 or 2 night stay. Location is outstanding, breakfast is good quality and the staff were very friendly and attentive at all times. The room did have a couple of issues with heating, I found it very cold in the mornings which was unexpected. The electric fan heaters in the room should have been the clue on that and once I found them they seemed to do the job. Overall I think this was a good hotel at great value, although next time I visit I will be upgrading to a slightly more spacious room.

Standards have dropped

Posted 26-Mar-2015
Have used this hotel a number of times, and always found it excellent. This time we found a few of the little things which made this a great hotel were lacking. Examples included room had a bad smell, we had to open the windows and let it air. Mini bar was missing the usual chocolates and small bottle of fizz. The breakfast was nowhere near as good as it had been in the past, smaller portions, also burnt.

Sleep over at the Noir.

Did not like the modern look that was generated from within the hotel, when they have a traditional old building - did not gel.

Why is it so cheap, it's beautiful!

Really lovely hotel. Only cost us about £40 for the night and we had a lovely room with free parking and a tassimo machine for coffee! Incredible value, with free parking and a nice 10 minute walk into the city walls and York Minster, unbeatable for the price!

Good comfortable hotel

Posted 27-Jan-2015
Location: Reasonably quiet location and a pleasant walk into the city centre.
A good quiet comfortable hotel, ten minutes walk from the city centre. Very small car park but adjacent road has unlimited parking. Excellent freshly cooked breakfast and friendly service, the room was comfortable and well equipped. Good value for money.

Great short break

Posted 15-Jan-2015 on Hotels.com
This was just a 2 night stay but the hotel was in a convenient location about 10 mins. walk to the Minster. Comfortable room with clean bathroom and everything we could have needed. Parking available at the rear of the hotel. We walked everywhere. Lovely breakfast - freshly cooked to order using good quality ingredients. Plenty of choice although the coffee downstairs was not as good as the pods used in the coffee machine in our room! We did not eat in the hotel as there was so much choice in the city. Would definitely stay here again.
