“Just adequate”
For the money I was paying I expected a little more.
“Great location”
This hotel is in a very central location. It is clean, modern and well maintained. There was no bath in our room, however the shower was very spacious which made up for it.
“Right in the city centre but charge for all extras”
A great hotel hwoever they do charge for all extras car parking £10.00 per day plus breakfast £11.00 per person per day a definate rip off . We went out and found a local cafe each morning after the first night and spent less than half this price for a indivudually cooked breakfast rather then food stored under hot lamps. Good free wifi though and frendly helpful staff.
“Needs to step up a bit on the general service”
There is nothing fundamentally wrong with this hotel. It is very well located, well maintained and comfortable enough given the quite reasonable rates charged. It's disaapointing when you find you have no bath (this really should be specified on booking as it is a given in my mind) and the TV was the size of a postage stamp and there were no Sky Sports channels. A big plus is the free internet access. The hotel really lets itself down on some basic service elements. The bar staff are clueless and didn't seem to be in any particular hurry - warm white wine rectified by ice, handled with fingers just one example. If you order a paper, isn't it reasonable to expect it delivered to your room? All in all its ok but there are better in York at the same price level which I would prefer to use. But if I had to go to the 53 again, I wouldn't be too worried.
“Hotel 53”
Great Location, nice hotel
“Go back again”
The hotel is new, clean, near towncenter but in quite place, perfect for weekend break or business . I would recommend it without doubt. From Bournemouth
“WILL RETURN”
PLEASE SEE MY TRAVEL EXPERIANCE.
“Didn't sleep!!”
The Hotel itself is quite well presented and in a good location, however from 5am there are delivery lorries unloading outside the hotel. The glazing is so bad we could hear conversations people were having on the street outside (our window was shut at the time!). Not really a relaxing stay. Restaurant service so-so, had a long wait and were told things on the menu were not available after we had ordered them. Overall, the best thing about the hotel is the location, however I certainly wouldn't go back or reccomend it.
“Just OK”
The hotel service was good and the room was comfortable, however things seemed old and weren't necessarily well maintained. The shower didn't drain very well and actually flooded our bathroom floor a bit, getting my friend's dress clothes for a wedding rehearsal that night completely soaked. Other than that, it's within walking distance of most things you would want to do in York as a tourist, so that was nice.
“Very impressed with the hotel and York”
No hassles at all. Very friendly staff. Great room, very clean, warm and very well kept. Super bathroom. Very nice breakfast. All in all 10 on 10. Much above expectations. Would stay there again if I go back.

York, England, United Kingdom: Once enclosed by ancient fortified walls, York offers a wealth of cultural and historical sites, including York Castle, the National Railway Museum, and York Minster, a Gothic cathedral in the city center. The Shambles is a pedestrian-friendly street dating back to mediaeval ages, where it housed butcher shops. Today the scene is less gruesome, with quaint boutiques and tea rooms lining the road.
