Clean, comfortable and close to the train station

Posted 25-Jul-2014
Pros: Comfortable beds and clean bathroom. The fitness center is pretty decent too if you need to work off your Bettys afternoon teas!
Cons: Lower-ground floor rooms only as an absolute last resort.
Booked based on the numerous good reviews the hotel has previously received and pleased to say it lived up to expectations. The room was a good size, clean and comfortable with a good bathroom and a full and plentiful breakfast selection. My only caveat: my partner and I arrived early for check-in and asked if the room was ready on the off chance. We were initially told it wasn't and this was a-okay by us. We were just going to leave our bags then another member of staff said suddenly that the room was ready. Disappointingly though, despite requesting a top-floor room, were slotted into one of the lower-ground floor ones. Went to check it out before dismissing it out of hand and all I can say is it was pretty much the same as the one we ended up in minus the significant issue - I really amn't sure how many people want to stay in a room where people can walk right up to and past your window (a window which was significantly smaller than the one we eventually ended up with on the 5th floor and consequently let in very little light even on a sunny day). In the end we went back to the reception desk, requested a high-floor room and were told it wouldn't be ready till check-in time which was absolutely fine by us. We went off for a trot round York and on our return were settled into our 5th floor room. Definitely try for 507 or 517 if you can - they face the quiet back of the hotel with a view of the city walls.

Lovely hotel close to York city centre

Posted 22-Jul-2014
Pros: The modern feel, the large shower in the bathroom, the self service breakfast.
Cons: Room size for families.
Location: City centre location near to all the major attractions.
Stayed here as a family of 4 for 4 nights in July. The room was modern and very clean. The 2 kids shared a sofa bed which is really only suitable up to age of about 10. The room was compact and had little storage space for 4 people but would be perfect for 2 people. There was air conditioning which was great for the hot spell of weather! Breakfast was a hot and cold self service buffet and this worked really well with no real queues and very efficient staff keeping the food topped up. The hotel is only a few minutes walk from the city walls and the National Railway Museum and 10 to 15 min walk to York Minster. Checkout was simple and quick. The hotel was very clean, modern and welcoming.

Functional hotel fulfilling most requirements

Posted 18-Jul-2014
Pros: Clean, new, good beds.
Cons: The hotel is not suitable for travellers with more than basic luggage. Luggage drop off facilities are inadequate.
Located on a hill so this hotel is not suitable for those who find walking uphill from town difficult. Double yellow lines outside and no help with luggage mean dropping off luggage and checking in are very difficult if arriving by private car.

Modern hotel in Olde York

Posted 16-Jul-2014
An excellent location close to Micklegate Bar (try the Bike Shed next to the Bar for coffee and a snack) within the medieval walls. Staff were very welcoming, and the included breakfast was quite good, with plenty of seating. A short walk from the train station and easy to get to the city center without getting lost. Good value.

Great location if travelling by train

Posted 07-Jul-2014
Pros: The continental breakfast was wonderful. Breakfast: scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, beans and bread items shared space with cereal and many juices.
Cons: Bit annoying to have to leave the hotel key in a slot for the lights. And, you can't have the closet door open without shutting the bathroom door.
Location: Wonderful shops, restaurants, pubs.
Our double bed with sofa bed room was small, but very clean. The location was only about a 12 minute walk from the train station, so it was quite convenient since we 3 were all pulling luggage behind us. The location is about another 12 minute walk to the center of York so not too far, but one way is a slight uphill. York itself is very charming.

Good location for railway station city centre

Posted 06-Jul-2014
Pros: Room was very clean and comfortable. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Excellent breakfast choices.
Cons: Choice of drinks from the bar.
We stayed here for 4 nights. The hotel was very close to all city centre visitor attractions but was situated in a quiet street only 5 mins walk from the railway station. The room was quite spacious, comfortable and very clean. The staff were very helpful. We would use this hotel again.
