Excellent location 5 minutes walk from city centre

Posted 20-Oct-2014
Excellent hotel, very we'll located minutes from the city centre. Clean and tidy rooms, everything you would want from a hotel. Nice bar and good beer which is not always assured with hotels. Friendly, pleasant and helpful staff. A pleasant resting place for a stay in a fabulous city!

Good location for walking the city

Posted 20-Oct-2014
Pros: Location
We booked the hotel last minute so probably paid a higher rate than normal but overall it was good value, a good location, comfortable, a good free breakfast and a nice casual atmosphere.

Cons: Shower
Location: Shops. Restaurants and pubs. Also great location for sightseeing in york.
Staff great. Hotel really clean, only fault with room was the shower was really poor (that's if I'm being picky!) breakfast really good and location was great fir what we wanted which was the centre. Would definitely stay again.

Good value

A nice tidy room, helpful staff. As close to a bargain as you can find in such an expensive city. Will use again.

PLEASANT, COMFORTABLE STAY

Posted 12-Oct-2014
My room (and bathroom) was modern and spotlessly clean ; the size was adequate but not spacious. The air conditioning was completely silent and very effective and I found that the two double glazed windows completely blocked out the noise from the nightclub opposite. The breakfast buffet provided a wide choice including a full English breakfast. The location was very convenient, very near the station and within easy walking distance of the city's attractions.

Good hotel within walking distance to the station

Posted 11-Oct-2014
Nice modern hotel with very good rooms. The bathroom although small was top quality (German fittings!). The hotel, as it was in a side street, was very quiet and we slept well. The only slight disappointment was the totally self service restaurant. It is nice to come into a restaurant with set tables and a waiter to get the tea or coffee but overall we enjoyed our stay very much.

Very good location close to York rail station

Posted 04-Oct-2014
Pros: location and high standards
Cons: fridge in the room
Location: An ancient walled city dating back to Roman times....A visit to the Cathedral is a must as is the Railway Museum.
We overnighted and were happy in gereral with what the Hotel had to offer. We chose this hotel for its location close to the railway station. Rooms very good and beds comfortable.....The only adverse comment I would make is that there was no fridge in the room but this is the case in most of the UK hotels we stayed at during our 5 week tour. As the hotel only offers breakfast we had dinner at a nearby Turkish Restaurant which was excellent .

Good location

Posted 28-Sep-2014
Pros: Quiet location, modern and bright.Friendly staff.Good selection of food at breakfast buffet.
Cons: There was an initial unpleasant odour each time we entered room.Bedroom/bathroom were very clean, but we would suggest a review of cleaning implements
Location: Hotel is within easy walking distance of the city centre, good for a 2 night stay.Closest tourist attractions are the railway museum and city walls
The hotel is about five minutes walk from the train station. It is within easy walking distance to the city centre and all the tourist attractions. We enjoyed walking through the little streets that lead to York Minster. We visited York Museum which has some very good permanent exhibitions and is currently displaying a very interesting exhibition about WW1. Nice weather so we walked on part of the city walls and got good views over York.We also went on one of the Ghost Walks, passing other similar groups as we made our way through the dark, narrow streets.Quite light hearted and not scary at all.

Great hotel and location for exploring York

Posted 26-Sep-2014
Stayed at the Hampton on 24th Sept 2014 for a shopping trip with my sisters. On arrival we were greeted by an extremely pleasant duty manager, professional, courteous and knowledgeable about the hotel and the city of York. Hotel room was for 3 people, only allocated a small room not really appropriate for 3 adults; once sofa bed pulled out floor space was gone. Room itself was immaculately clean although the facilities in the room only catered for 2 people, towels, tea cups, etc. Hotel bar had a friendly atmosphere and 24 hr snack service was a nice touch. Breakfast was busy but only to be expected at 9am, quality of food was so-so and choice very basic. Major negative was that the windows in the bedroom did not open which we found very strange until the nightclub opposite opened! We didn't manage to get to sleep until 3am due to the noise. Now we understood why the windows were permanently locked. Despite this it's great value for money for a quick stay over, we only paid £34 each so as far as budget hotels go it's on a par with the Holiday Inn Express chain. I would certainly stay again but would definitely request a room at the back of the hotel and not the front which overlooks the local night club!
