“Nice hotel, interesting interior and good location”
Rooms were basic, but clean and comfortable. Hotel interior is fun. Location is walking distance of town and station.
“Great hotel for location and price!!”
Great value for money compared with other hotels, 10 mins walk into York centre.
“Great Price - Good Hotel”
After reading the other reviews on here I was not sure whether to book the Elmbank hotel. However, I went for it as the price was about half that of any other hotel. When I arrived I didn't know what the other reviews were talking about, friendly service, nice atmosphere, clean and big room. I will definately go back and would recommend this hotel to others as a good cheap place to stay, just 5 minutes walk from the station!
“staff very freindly but lack of cleanliness and maintenance in rooms”
we were a party of four who were in the annex which has diabled bathroom facilities but switches were not for diabled bathrooms were not clean and the fan was not working but when reported it was fixed the same day The staff were very freindly and were able to answer all our queries we had a great time in York but would not go back to this hotel
“Simple but close”
The hotel is basic but pretty, its a 10 min walk into the centre of York but most attractions are on the other side of York centre so 20 mins to the shambles etc. the town is so pretty that the walk didnt bother us just meant if u wanted 2 come back to the hotel to get changed its a bit of a walk to go back to town. The room was small but adequate for a one nite stay, there was 2 large pillows which I liked and a comfy double bed no duvet tho just sheets and the heating goes off at 9pm so it want that warm later on in the nite, there was a bath which was needed but when I filled it up it had bits in it which was a bit gross, so I dont think the cleaner are very good, the staff were very friendly tho, would recommend 4 a short stay but not a long stay
“A little shabby but clean and handy for the York races..”
The hotel was very handy for the York races. It was the decor and general upkeep of the hotel that lets it down. It was very shabby and in need of some serious modernisation. That said the room was clean and the service was ok. I would recommend this for an overnight stay for the nearby races due to it's convienance. I would NOT recommmend it for a romantic weekend or a long term stay. For the price I would say that you could get in at a good B&B for less and have an equal if not a better stay. The Roman Baths in central York was a better stay the last time I was in York.
“not impressed”
From arrival to departure the service was poor and I found the room very badly in need of refurbishment. Everything was of the most basic type. The paid for breakfast was awful and I would recommend anybody staying there not to pay for breakfast but have it in the city centre. I had one 'bar meal' which was totally inedible.
“Openly noisy”
The hotel regularly has non-residents in the bar and holding functions, to the extent that they even have specific messages in the hotel room telling you that they often have loud parties which may disturb hotel guests. It didn't help that the parties spill out the front door where people continue to smoke and drink right underneat our window.
“Not impressed”
Was supposed to be a romantic weekend away, hardly that. We had two uncomfortable twin beds pushed together, a room that squeaked more than a mouse and hotel staff that all needed customer service training. The hotel smelt strongly of cigarette smoke and there was very little car parking even though the description given stated ample parking. A hotel with plenty of potential, a good location just in need of some serious staff training.
