Beautiful hotel

Posted 28-Oct-2014
Pros: The staff, appearance, location, restaurant - all are very good.
Cons: Nothing.
Location: It is close to all the interesting places in York - close enough to walk everywhere.
Both my husband and I really loved this hotel and the city of York. The hotel is very nicely decorated and comfortable. It is close to tourist activities and close to the underground station. The staff are very pleasant and helpful.

Great location for exploring York and Yorkshire

Posted 13-Oct-2014
Went to visit friends in Yorkshire in Harrogate and Durham as well as revisiting York. SIted an easy walk from the train station Cedar was well appointed and certainly higher quality. Our room was clean and well appointed including safe, kettle and tea/coffee, snacks, a well stocked (for pay) refrigerator. (Still and sparkling water from the refrigerator was free. There is a nice spa downstairs with friendly staff and a fairly extensive offering. Getting into York to see the sights was very easy as was hoping on the train to get where we needed to. INternet was a bit spotty but apparently the management is looking to make improvements. Breakfast was delicious and filling. Our only minor annoyance (echoed by two other guests) is that the rooms have many flashing lights on at night, like the television and the fire sensor) and the sensors in the bathroom (for the fan?) clicked every time you moved. For most 21st century visitors I'm sure they wouldn't notice, but it did affect our sleep. Oh and the showers in the bathrooms were warm and relaxing, but were also not very convenient to start, as we had to lean under the big sunflower type shower head to turn on the water. Staff may want to ensure that the water temperature is warm when they finish cleaning so we get our heads/arms hit by warm and not cold (or hot) water. We would definitely come back again when we revisit Yorkshire.

Best hotel I have stayed in

Posted 08-Oct-2014
Pros: Everything. Especially the staff who were so friendly and made to feel so welcome. We also liked all the small extras in the room.
Cons: Nothing.
Location: It is a short walk from the railway station and there is a bus stop close by. Short walk to numerous places to eat, shop and have fun.
I arranged a four night break with my wife to celebrate her birthday. Our experience was wonderful from arriving and being given two glasses of champagne as our room wasn't quite ready, to leaving and our luggage being kept in their left luggage room whilst we waited for our train after check out. I had arranged flowers and chocolates to be in our room on arrival and they were there waiting for us. We enjoyed a superb afternoon tea, a very tasty Sunday lunch and two sessions each in the wonderful health spa. Everything was just right with the room. The bed superbly comfortable and all the little extra touches just made the whole experience just so memorable. All the staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble and they all make you feel special. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, it is the best.

Exclusive

Posted 06-Oct-2014
Pros: Comfort, style and the staff.
Cons: Slight maintenance issues in the bathroom. Shower door sticks and hot water issues in the shower (bath was fine).
Location: Great city centre location. Restaurants, cafes and a number of tourist attractions.
This is an excellent hotel that I would highly recommend if money is no object. Almost without exception, the staff are friendly, efficient and the hotel's greatest asset. The only exception to that was one of the receptionists who, while efficient, was distinctly cool. By contrast, Debra was excellent - a real star. Our room (an executive room) was well-appointed with good quality furnishings, very nice bed and bedding and a decent size - slightly overshadowed by being in the eaves on the 4th floor. The bathroom was quite large. We didn't use the spa so can't comment. Breakfast was lovely. Not vast amounts of choice but fresh and quality food. We had dinner in the grill room on one occasion. I would not recommend it. Again, the staff were faultless, but the menu was pretty dire. The chef could clearly cook but the attempt to 'deconstruct' the traditional grill room menu was to my mind a complete failure. Vegetarian fish and chips may seem clever to the chef but not to me. I didn't choose this (it turned out on enquiry to be cheese based). The main problem was essentially one of choice. I ended up choosing the cheapest things on the menu simply because the whole menu bored me to tears. It still cost a lot of money and was the least enjoyed meal during our stay in York. If you are interested in staying there but prefer to eat out, there is a great selection of restaurants within easy walking distance. You can get breakfast nearby across the bridge

Convenient to station and center of town

Posted 01-Oct-2014
Most front desk reception personnel were very helpful and friendly, but not all. Some appeared to be disinterested. Booked a king bedded room per Expedia listing, but was booked in to a queen bedded room. Hotel claimed it was not guaranteed to be king bedded. I paid a premium over an adjacent hotel because they could not guarantee the king bed. So I booked the cedar court because your listing was for a king bedded room.

Quick stop over to check out York and hotel - not disappointed by either - will definitely be back - lovely setting, great customer service and facilities - would highly recommend for a relaxed stay that has that little something extra.

Our room was beautiful and very comfortable. My husband and I loved this hotel. We did a trip through the UK and this was by far the best place we stayed. Easy walking distance from the train station as well all the major sites to see and things to do in York. Highly recommended!

Right in the City

Pros: Location
Location: walking distance to York Minster and Shambles etc
Lovely Hotel in good location. Really enjoyed our stay and would have loved to have stayed longer than 1 night. Huge Huge room and lovely comfortable bed. Would recommend for a stay in York and very handy to everything. We caught the train from Edinburgh to York which was great and Train Station is probably a 5-8 minute easy walk to the Station from Hotel.
