Grand building

Posted 06-Jul-2014
Pros: Nothing
Cons: It would take to long to say
Location: Convenient location for a English sea side resort
Would not recommend any one to stay would like to think of something positive to say about the experience but unable to. Room was smelly breakfast awful and certain staff need retraining in people skill.

Disappointment

Posted 25-Jun-2014
Very disappointed with hotel. Room awful. Said sea view but had to climb on bed to look out the small window. Small room very old fashioned. Hotel in general in need of refurbishment. Dining area quite dirty tables not cleaned. Entertainment rubbish. One girl who sang same songs two nights running.Would not go back which is a shame as good location.

Hotel with a lot of character

Posted 14-Jun-2014
Cons: Free bingo would have been good.
Location: Arcade amusement. very close to the beach. Museum close by.
Had a great time. Excellent choice of breakfast (which was free). Staff went out of their way to ensure that you had a excellent experience. Evening entertainment was brilliant, bingo was on every night, with a performance to conclude the night.

The old cliché - not as Grand as its named

Posted 27-May-2014
Pros: Location.Close to the shops and beach.
Cons: More staff at peak times-queues in reception and bar area.Change tea bags in the breakfast room!Portable heater in room for cold days would be ideal!
Location: The shops, pubs and cafes/ restaurants are just a close walk away as is the beach
The Hotel itself is very Grand looking, great lounge area from the entrance. Our first interaction with staff was the receptionist. Very pleasant and informative. Our room didn't have a view, which I didnt really consider, and our room was three floors down. We opened the door and our room was freezing and the radiator didn't work. The décor of the room was nice and bathroom was nice and clean too. We had to report that the extractor fan in the bathroom wasn't working, which didn't get fixed so the bathroom and towels were constantly wet, and we were also told that the hotel was in the Summer period so no heating was available. We did have extra blankets in our room which we did have to use. Our first breakfast we forgot our room card, and although they have a list with your name on the female member of staff refused us entry without the card. I had to go all the way back down to level three, which with one lift at peak time wasn't very quick. Breakfast was so so. Self service and definitely had better elsewhere. Not very well set out. The tea was disgusting, so we had coffee on our second morning, better. The breakfast area had a great view of the beach though but the furnishing was past its prime and shabby looking. We did use the bar whilst we were there, nice area, nice staff but understaffed. Overall a good stay. Would recommend to a friend but wouldn't have a room without a window again and don't forget your room card or you'll be made to feel like you've been naughty!

Pros: Breakfast
Cons: Where to start lol
What a shame. This was the largest hotel in Europe when it was built and must have been magnificiant Now it is run down with appalling facilities and service. Avoid at all costs

My experience was terrible. Avoid this hotel.

I booked a double sea-view room for two people for two nights via Expedia. As it turned out, I only needed to stay by myself, for one night (the second). I knew I couldn't get my money back, but I rang the hotel anyway to tell them that we weren't going to be there for the first night. The lady on the switchboard said she 'couldn't accept the information' as the booking was via Expedia. I thought, 'odd, if it were my hotel, I would want to know if a guest wasn't coming'. When I turned up on the second night, they said they had cancelled the booking the night before as a 'no show'. On top of that, they could only offer me a single room with no view. When I pointed out to the manager that he was asking me to pay £170 for a single with no view, he had not a word of apology for me, and was - I felt - almost nasty about it too. Anyway, off I went to my very expensive single room. The times of breakfast were not given in the room, but I thought 10am reasonable to turn up on a Sunday morning. Wrong again. 'The restaurant's closed', I was told. (No one at the Grand Hotel Scarborough seems to know the word 'sorry'.) £170 for a single room for one night, no view, no breakfast and cruel staff. Won't be going there ever again.
