Delightful old hotel but avoid food

Posted 30-Jun-2015
Pros: History of building. Position. View.
Cons: The food! We paid for breakfasts but ended up eating elsewhere as they were extremely unappealing to say the least!
Location: Excellent location. Near town, South Bay, castle, station etc etc
Lovely building. Excellent welcome. Comfortable room with good sea view even though window small. Hotel very busy but very quiet at night.

Nice hotel, lovely stay

Posted 26-Jun-2015
I'm from Scarborough myself and moved to Manchester last year, my partner and I wanted a break away and he wanted to see my hometown so we stayed in the grand hotel. Now being from Scarborough we heard rumours of it being filthy, cockroaches everywhere, in fact, it was absolutely wonderful. The room was lovely, despite the horrible smell of the toilets when you go to the ground floor rooms, the staff were lovely, the complimentary bed and breakfast was lovely (and well needed) however; when booking this room, we had no idea that no view meant literally no view, our room was lovely but it was incredibly hot, I found myself going for a walk in my pyjamas at 6am, we will be staying again but we will be staying in a room with a view this time. Lovely stay 5/5

Excellent view of South Bay

Posted 02-Jun-2015
This is a Victorian Hotel and is showing its age. The owners are renovating it so don't expect 5star ! The rooms are clean and breakfast was pleasant enough. The view is stunning out over the south bay. This was value for money and provided a passable base for exploring the area. The parking is very limited but the NCP park is close by and OK.

Gran is not so Grand

Posted 27-May-2015
Pros: Not much
Cons: Lots of things
Location: Location good but hotel disappointing
very tired hotel in need of maintenance in all areas. Furniture very worn and looked dirty. Walls in room that have been painted that many times that the wallpaper is coming off the walls. Carpet in hallways threadbare, Mirror in small lift smashed. Sanitiser all over the hotel.

Old and tired.

I would not stay here again. The hotel is in dire need of refurbishment and the food left a lot to be desired. The staff were pleasant and the views marred only by the bird excrement everywhere.

Good location but in need of tlc

Posted 26-May-2015
Pet friendly so was able to take our dog but staff levels were not adequate for the amount of guests. Bedding was clean but room was in need of refurb as carpet was thread bare and the room smelt damp.

Pros: We thought the hotel was plain
Cons: Better discription in your write up
Location: Location not recommended for disabled who have trouble walking, nothing much near by to do
We up graded our room because the lady on the desk said it was small and that you looked straight into another room.we up graded to a room with a sea view which was very plain and dissappointing.

Really tired hotel, very disappointing

Posted 04-May-2015
Pros: The shower
Cons: More accurate description of the room.
Location: Close to the front, good location
When I booked this hotel it said that the room had 'no view'. This was misleading as the room actually had no window - it felt like sleeping in a garage, a very cold one at that!

Great in spirit, but beginning to disintegrate.

Posted 04-May-2015
Pros: It is an amazing building, in an amazing location.
Cons: Straighten out all the lamp shades, which are seasickeningly crooked everywhere, re-organize breakfast, and invest in a better interior paint job.
Location: Lovely seaside location with lots of bling bling and horsey rides, fish and chips, slots, scenery, fishing boats, castle.
I spent a very pleasant bank holiday weekend here, and thoroughly enjoyed the town and the friendly staff. The room was OK for the money, and overall, everything did what it was supposed to do.

Cheap but dirty with a hospital feel

Posted 26-Apr-2015
The hotel carpets and walls are stained and unkempt.. good location but smelly. Beds were clean so ok for a night only! Like an oap nursing home and breakfast your like cattle... Pay an extra tenner to upgrade out of the dungeon rooms!
