It was vip access property which I chose, but the lady on reception didn’t upgrade my room and mentioned we are vip access but we don’t have benefits to upgrade, room was v dirty . Old broken cupboard, nothing was vip, plz remove this property from vip access, not worth at all

Lovely setting, lovely hotel staff friendly and polite. Only downside is parking at hotel is £10 don’t know if that is a night as only there for 1 night and the car park isn’t the easiest to park in quite limited. Pleasant stay overall and would recommend, just need to remove parking fee.

Friendly helpful staff but unfortunately the room was not very clean upon first sight room looked lovely bit dark but nice we were out the first day but however after spending time in the room over night and the next day we both started with allegy symptoms which by next morning had become quite severe upon checking around the room we were horrified to see the carpet of dust on the top and underneath the bed also cobwebs on the bathroom door frame We were so shocked as the hotel was really nice

Room quality was poor The mattress was paper thin with springs poking out. Ridiculously tired ans outdated decor. Obviously and older room compered otherss previously stayed at. We couldn't sleep and left in the early hours.

It was a nice pleasant accomodation. Place was quiet and has a bar and cafe downstairs where we ordered afternoon tea, and late night pizza and beer. Staff were accommodating.

I have stayed numerous times at this hotel and always enjoyed my time there, the rooms are clean and comfortable. Plenty of hot water, a good shower with a nice warm room.

Friendly and welcoming
I stayed for 1 night due to office social in York. The hotel was comfortable but the standout thing for me was the excellent service provided by the friendly staff - nothing was too much trouble and everyone was very nice. I definitely recommend the Pavilion Hotel. Thank you :)

It’s a building site Original room was noisy and sounded like I was next to a generator or large AC roof unit so had to change room No chair to work at the work table on my laptop. Small armchair was too low to use laptop properly. Biscuits on coffee tray not replaced for second night stay Every time I visited reception someone was complaining about something. If it’s on the middle of a renovation you should be told at the time of the booking.

This was the third time we've stayed here and unfortunately the last. The condition of the room we were allocated was poor to say the least. The carpet was filthy and hadn’t been vacuumed properly, also for a small room the carpet was in five strips which are separating and freying. The general decor is very dated with the added interest of a large cobweb between the wall and wardrobe, not fresh as it was covered in dust. The "king size" bed was just two singles pushed together and therefore not very comfortable. The only plus point was the evening staff in the bar area.

Leaking macerator toilet / smelly room
I booked this hotel at the cost for £160 for a family get-together. For the price, I expected not to have a room that stank had no plugs anywhere near the bed and had a leaking macerated toilet (probably the cause of the smell). I didn’t get into the room till 1 am as we went out for dinner and drinks, and at that point it was too late to change, although I assume they were fully booked anyway as I was given room 16, which was a hovel. Rip off and this room should not be on sale.

I was sent an email after I had booked to stay to say the restaurant onsite would be closed which was disappointing as I had to go out for food. When I arrived I was hit with an unexpected additional parking charge for onsite parking which was not informed about beforehand. I had to submit card information for any incurred expenses which was worrying as well. The room was ok but the most appalling thing about the trip was the walls are made out of cardboard and I could hear other people’s conversations in the room next to me when they were speaking at normal tone. Every time the rooms next to me turned the taps I could hear it and I could hear the TV as well which made me distressed and I had a terrible sleep. Breakfast was ok but the server did not speak English so did not understand my request for a vegetarian breakfast. God help anyone who has an allergy… I would implore anyone looking at this property to avoid at all costs!!!!! You will feel leave feeling miserable and swindled!

Thank you for your review and we're sorry to hear about the issues with noise from neighbouring guest. If any noise complaints are bought to the attention of our reception during the night, then these are dealt with swiftly. In regards to the parking, it's clearly stated on the Expedia website that there is an 8.50 charge for parking. We did unfortunately have to close our restaurant earlier in the year and subsequently don't advertise having a restaurant but do offer a pizza menu and bar snacks. Finally, the taking of a 'security deposit' is common in many hotels and gets returned to the guest.

Great Place to Stay in York
We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel and grounds are charming and the staff was so friendly and helpful. They put a space heater in the room which was nice because it was pretty cold out. Convenient bus stop just across the street with regular service to the city center and train station.The shower was warm with great water pressure. Things to be aware of: the room, especially bathroom, tended to be damp. The heater helped a lot with that. The walls were a bit thin. There aren't a lot of places to get dinner, but easy to walk to Sunny's and Big Bite for breakfast and lunch, and we liked the hotel's pizzas.

Last minute booking. All good initially, dropping of the car and registering, before going into the city to meet up with our daughter. We didn’t return until around 8pm. At first the roomed seem ok and in a quiet section as requested. The bathroom was tired with mould on the ceiling, rotten wood trim and a bath that looked less than inviting. Water took around 10 minutes to get hot. The bedroom was cool but not too bad but the duvets were very thin and narrow. Luckily we had blankets. The pillows were almost useless. Around 00.30 someone arrived upstairs and the pacing and creaking floor boards began. Then the TV, the 01.30. 10 minute shower, the bumps (suitcase being repeatedly dropped?) and finally the 10 minute expletive ridden rant. I think we eventually fell asleep sometime after 03.00. We were up early and left asap after telling reception about the psycho upstairs!!

Good quality accommodation but no dining options in the hotel in the evening unless you like pizza. Have to go outside for evening meal. Car park charge is new since I last stayed too. Nice hotel and they still do breakfast!

The hotel is very old so we expected it to be a bit tired but our room was quite smelly. The staff were great and relocated us to another room. However Best Western (I think who own the property) need to invest in getting this lovely building back to a standard befitting it’s appearance and location. Thank you.

Just a stop over. Room was of decent standard although small. Staff were friendly and helpful. The prime readon for my disappointment was the noise from the kitchen. Not only was the noise loud, but the floor vibrated with the noise. I was promised that the fans would be off by 9pm. But did have to go down at 9.30pm to tell them that they had not been. Thinking that was the end of it i went to bed. But at 6am the fans started up again, so not a good stay. You may get a better stay if you make sure that your room is no where near he kitchen

I was quite comfortable in my room but had paid an extra £20 to be upgraded as there was a private party on with loud music below me in the room I had originally booked. I then HAD to pay. Further £8.50 for the privilege of parking in the hotel car park which this hotel has only relatively recently introduced. I was told I could park on the main road , but its double yellow lines around the hotel so it would be a little bit of a walk down a very very busy main road, which Im hardly going to do when my car is full of ‘stock ‘ for work. The restaurant is STILL closed here, I was told due to the inability to find staff. This is a shame as over the years of me staying here when I’ve been on business in the city centre, dining in the hotel for me is a pre requisite . Room 1, the bathroom is very ‘tired’, & given its generous size it should surely have a walk-in shower. The carpet in the bedroom is rather grubby especially around the furniture & behind the 4 poster bed needs a joy good clean. Rather a pathetic ‘tea /coffee ‘ tray given the stay was £135 for 1 night , 1 person. I was, it has to be said, rather disappointed this time.
