“Nightmare Hotel”
Cleanliness of hotel room was a disappointment. There were clean sheets placed over dirty, stained mattress covers, that had not been changed in quite sometime. The pillows were dirty, smelly and stained from previous guests head and body sweat. We had to spray the matress and pillows room with Lysol. The front desk finally sent up clean linens that we used to remake the bed. We did complaint to the evening manager, received nothing but excuses and he even seemed to be ann oyed that we reported the terrible conditions of the hotel. Next, we discovered when we arrived for breakfast, that our names were not on the lis but should have been as part of our package.. We had to call Expedia and after a long wait, finally sit down to breakfast. The hotel seems to be totally disorganized, not very customer friendly and very dirty. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
“Room Service, housekeeping not what we expected”
Had a nice road trip from DC to Richmond to end up in Virgina Beach area. This hotel had an odd entrance. The elevators to the rooms were inconvenient to the front door. Warmly welcomed the first day, but the next three were not too great. Complimentary coffee offered until 9--but there was never any coffee left! Wireless internet offered for free in lobby only, you had to pay for in room service. There were 5 or 6 computers, but there was never one available bc children were using them--even though there was a sign saying you had to be over 18. There was a wedding, conference and family reunion and it felt like the service was catering to those parties. When I asked for coffee packages, it was like asking for a miracle. Last straw was when we ordered room service since the restaurant was closed at 9:30 p.m. and the order never was placed. After waiting for 2 hours, we finally got the dinner. We did get it complimentary, but I was quite disappointed.
“Expensive, but good”
The hotel is well maintained, very comfortable, with an excellent standard of service. It is expensive, but no more so than any other of this standard. The rooms are large and comfortable, but unfortunately internet is not free. The breakfast buffet is excellent, the staff very polite and efficient. Location could not be bettered, on the edge of the Old Town and right next to the Elizabeth River Ferry for easy access to downtown Norfolk.
“Average but not great for the price”
The hotel looks very nice with a large hallway and lounge area including computers for interent use. It is a very very long walk from parking (front door) to the front desk and even longer to the room elevators. The room was a bit small for the price and the AC was very noisy. I guess I am used to other hotels that have a mini fridge and micro in the room for those late night snacks and drink but this room did not have either. As others mentioned no exhaust fan in the bathroom. And I know it was only $10 per day for parking but you would think a place like this could throw that service in. We got the breakfast which was ok, nothing too exciting. The staff were very nice and helpful. If you like the view of the wate and the city you will like this place. The pool/whirlpool/ fitness center were good. Overall I was content with my stay but I doubt I would return.
“Snowed in at Portsmouth”
Only intended to stay one night, but got snowed in...not a bad place for this to happen. Room was comfortable and restaurant food was good, although expensive. Only issue was lack of local tv signal, when trying to track weather conditions.
“It was okay”
Requested king size bed and got two doubles; bathroom sink plumbing leaked; no vending machine on floor and ice maker was out of order; had to pay $10 a day for parking and it was not valet; front desk was quite a walk from parking garage.
“The Place to be in Downtown Portsmouth”
My wife and I enjoyed the great views of the harbor (between Portsmouth and Norfolk) from our room. The Renaissance Hotel was very well appointed (seemed newly redecorated). Our room was pleasant: clean and comfortable. The hotel staff was warm & friendly. The downtown area of Portsmouth is quite nice with many interesting places within walking distance. (Much better than it was years ago.) My only complaint is that the parking should be included with the room rate and not an extra $10 per night. Internet connection should be included, as well. However, I didn't go online during our stay, so I'm not sure if there was an additional charge. Overall, we would stay there again.
“Good Place to stay in Portsmouth”
Clean modern hotel. Rooms have a great view.
“Beautiful Hotel, but....”
I loved this hotel. It was right on the water, walking distance to plenty of historic sites and food. Just a ferry ride to downtown Norfolk for addition resturants. Indoor pool, overlooking the Elizabeth River. Perfect place for a romantic getaway. The only problem I had was the room we reserved was not the room we got and the hotel was booked with a wedding so, they could not move us. Overall, excellent hotel!
“Fantastic!”
We absolutely loved the Renaissance Portsmouth hotel. We were on the 14th floor and had a beautiful view of the river and downtown area. The room was very modern and comfortable; also clean although I noticed the floor was a little wet beside the bed (not sure what that was from). Overall it was a great experience and plan to go back.
