Dining
Restaurant de L'Hermitage Gantois - The restaurant is a bold mix of old and modern, with an original vaulted ceiling painted red and gold, a polished black marble floor, crisp white tablecloths, black, white and gold crockery and fresh flowers. Meat and fish specialities dominate the menu and sample dishes include Veal's Liver with Conserved Shallots and Creamed Horseradish Sauce, and Crab Brandade with Shellfish Oil and Crunchy Langoustine Tails. Open for buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Estaminet Gantois - The Estaminet comprises two rooms: one on street level with a beamed ceiling, tiled floor and wood-panelled zinc bar, and the second in the vaulted cellar with brick walls, discreet lighting and period features. It serves regional favourites such as Moules-Frites (mussels cooked in white wine served with French fries), Grilled Rib Roast and Chicken Liver Terrine. Open for lunch and dinner.
L'Hermitage Gantois Bar - Formerly a courtyard, the bar is overlooked on three sides by the historic buildings that comprise the hotel. The atrium roof and glass façade let in natural light and, teamed with the leather sofas and easy chairs, give a modern feel to this area. The bar serves breakfast and afternoon tea as well as light snacks and a range of drinks. Live piano music is played every evening and guest artists appear on Saturday evenings.

“A unique experience”
Our third stay at this superb hotel and as always we had a lovely, relaxing time. The hotel is full of history and there is a sense of calm throughout the beautiful building. Take a camera, you will not be disappointed. The staff are extremely helpful and the food is delicious.
“Fantastic Hotel dissapointed with Lille”
The Hotel was one of the best I have stayed in food attention to detail was all you could ask for. Top Marks FANTASTIC
“A great place to stay for work and for play.”
This is a very well managed hotel with heaps of character. Situated in a great location for business and shopping, it is a muct for staying in Lille whether you are driving or on the train.
“Can't wait to go back!”
Great, great hotel, stunning and beautiful rooms
“This hotel was wonderful.”
I took my mother there for a Christmas present and it was a lovely stay. The hotel was a beautiful building and even had some history behind it. The staff were great, all speak English and couldn't do enough for you. The room was lovely, comfortable beds and modern bathroom with complimentary bath robes and slippers. Absolutely perfect. Well worth the money and I would greatly recommend it.
“Worth the detour to Lille.”
What a great find! We were travelling back from Chamonix and decided to break the trip in Lille. The hotel was fantastic! The service at check in was very friendly and efficient. The staff all spoke excellent English and the building has been beautifully restored. We had no problem finding a park on the street and the hotel is well located near the city centre. The only down side was the difference in the two rooms we had. Our friend had a very large room with double height original ceiling. Our room was on the top floor and very basic in comparison. Request a room on a lower floor if you can. The price of drinks in the bar were over the top and that's saying something given i live in London! Even with the bad exchange rate (1 pound = 1.04 Euro!), they were still very expensive. Saying that, i'd happily stay there again and wouldn't hesitate recomending the hotel to friends.
“Lovely, characterful modern hotel in a historic building”
Really nice refurbishment of a 15th century building. It was previously a hospice - if you explore the ground floor you'll find a small, interesting exhibit of some old medical equipment from its previous life, alongside some fun modern art. Room was comfortable and smart - the only thing showing its age was the flat screen TV which was presumably installed at the hotel's refurbishment in 2004. The only thing disappointing was the restaurant - they talk it up as a gastronomic experience but, although it has an enticing menu and great service, the actual food was poor (especially for France). Our "glace de foie gras" was incredibly over-salted, an escalope of foie gras tasteless and overwhelmed by its accompanying rhubarb puree. A duck carpaccio was bland, totally outshone by what appears to be the house speciality: mashed potato with olive oil (which was indeed delicious). Desserts were similarly nicely presented if rather tasteless - you'll get something more delicious from most French patisseries for a fraction of the price. We didn't try the hotel's brasserie, though when we got up too late for breakfast one day we did find that the boulangerie next to the entrance does excellent pain au chocolat! So - stay in the hotel with our wholehearted recommendation, but perhaps skip the main restaurant.
“Lille's best hotel?”
We have just returned from a trip to Lille for the "Braderie". The Hermitage Gantois was excellently situated for the event itself and was a welcome oasis of calm during the two day festivities. It was near the main antique/brocante stalls and around 10 minutes walk from the centre of Lille. The restaurant attached to the hotel also served the best "moules et frites" throughout the weekend - evidenced by the large queue every day. The staff were very friendly and obliging and the standard of the hotel facilities was very high (Clarins products in the bathrooms). Our room was a standard double room on the top (2nd) floor and was decorated really tastefully. There were only two very minor niggles which although slightly annoying, in no way spoiled the experience - the bathroom sink was very stylish and modern but unfortunately had no plug! The bedroom window was very small and the view was limited - although I'm sure that this wouldn't be an issue in some of the hotel's bigger rooms. The Hermitage is not the cheapest place to stay in Lille but I would definitely recommend paying the extra.
“Historical luxurious hotel in LIlle”
Beautiful hotel, tastefully blends the historical and modern features. Excellent New Years Eve meal in the hospice salon, just next to the chapel. Only ten minutes walk to La Grande Place so very convenient. Parking 25 euros a night.
“Excellent value for the money”
We got a very good deal and paid a lot less than the price quoted on the hotel website. It was a lovely hotel with a mixture of old and new. The bathroom was very modern and good, except for the fact that the sin khad no plug so it qwas difficult to have a wash, The breakfast was expensive, but we tried it once and there was an excellent choice of food. The restaurant was also expensive but their othe adjoinig restaurant was very good with a set three course meal. Our rooms were up a private stairway, with a little entrance hall and each room also had a little entrance hall with chairs and a table. The only criticism was that there was not enough wardrobe space.
