“Would definitely stay here again!”

The staff were amazing! They were helpful and even got dinner reservations for us! When we go back to Nice, I won't stay anywhere but here!

“Great hotel on Mediterranean”

This hotel was on the Promenade and we had a 5th floor sea view room. It was superb! The room was large and so was the bathroom. Everything was updated and extremely comfortable. The hotel was very quiet. We never heard anything. Opening the doors to our small balcony and seeing the Mediterranian sunrise and sunset everyday was picture perfect. A bus stop was located 1/2 block from the hotel with easy access to the airport and other coastal cities. We were a 15 minute walk to the train station. We had excellant restaurants and cafes all around us. I would definately stay here again!

Area recommendations
Anything on the Promanade is superb. You have easy access to everything and the view is sublime.
When to go
Sept or October Everyone there told us that June, July and August are painfully crowded. We were there Oct 15-22. It was 68-70 degrees F everyday (only one day of drizzle). It got down to 55 deg F at night so you needed slacks and a jacket. We never had to deal with crowds anywhere.

“Outstanding Hotel!”

The service at this hotel was exceptional. I left my wallet in the safe by accident; they had it back to my home address within a few days, completely intact. I can't thank the Front Office manager enough for his and his staff's integrity. We highly recommend this hotel!

“Fantastic Hotel & Location”

Fantastic Hotel, friendly and helpful staff. Fantastic Location. Recommend rooms with sea view and balcony overlooking the cote d'azur. Good location to main train station and airport not far. Recommend getting the cote d'zur bus which runs along the promenade for a margin of the cab fares.

“Convenient”

The hotel was centerally located, a few minutes walk from the beach. The hotel was a bit old but the room was clean and comfortable with a gorgeous view of the sea.

“Consider a "city view" room”

This was our second or third stay at this hotel. We love the location. especially being right across the street from the beach. We booked a seaview room, overlooking the Promenade des Anglais and the Mediterranean Sea. We were on the second floor, and were kept awake by traffic on the first night. We expressed our concerns to the manager, who explained that a a lot of the traffic had been permenently rerouted from another major thouroughfare on which they had installed a tramway. Luckily, there was a room available on a higher floor, and they graciously moved us. We think that the hotel is a great value for the location, and will likely stay there next time we're in Nice, but will either call the hotel directly to assure that we're on an upper floor, or book a "city view" room.

Outdoors or beach
Be sure to ask your hotel if they have a special arrangement with a beach. We stayed at the Hotel Westminster and qualified for a reduced rate at their beach, Sporting Plage.

“Historic Westminster Hotel with Great Views and Lovely Terrace”

When planning a trip to Nice you'll have to expect life's a little different here compared to a little sleepy village in the Dordogne. Nice is lively, lots of traffic and people and some parts are very old. The same goes for it's hotels. We found the Westminster one of the better ones on the Promenade des Anglais. It has a real historic feel to it with masses of old features, though the bedrooms are quite modern with a huge bathroom (almost bigger than the sleeping area!) Yes, they may not be the biggest rooms you'll find, but it's an old hotel. Great views over the sea and beach and a nice cool breeze coming in from the sea through our large window. Traffic is quite noisy but windows are double glazed. Hotel staff was friendly but then we both speak french which, of course, helps. They were happy to switch to English if they went a bit too fast! We stayed for a few nights early June together with the President of Nigeria, who was staying with his entourage a few floors below us, during the African - French Conference. That meant the Promenade was closed to traffic for 2 days, with 1000's of police and security swarming the streets of Nice. Of course there were niggly little things in the room like the airco wasn't working, the shutters wouldn't come down, there was no shower curtain and the extractor fan in the bathroom didn't come on. But the room was cleaned very well, you get a room safe and we had a great time staying there, as we could walk everywhere.

Area recommendations
The Promenade is just superb and has to be experienced. You can stroll til late at night and it's just so relaxing. The Westmenster is in walking distance to most areas in Nice. We even strolled down to the Marina to look at the huge yachts moored there. Great fun.
Other
Don't bother with breakfast in your hotel, as it's hugely expensive. There are lots of very friendly places along the Promenade that offer a simple breakfast for a third of the price. Prices have gone up in Nice and it's quite expensive to eat out now so be aware you may need a few extra Euros. Cost for an average meal with a beer or couple of glasses of wine is twice as much compared to England.

“Difficult to Rate this Hotel so read comments for more detail”

There are several reasons why this hotel is difficult to rate. with the exception of the Bellman with the ponytail, all other emploees were rude and unwilling to help. Asking for linens seemed like a chore and inconvenience for the service. However, I bet if we asked this bellman, he would have done it without question and with a smile. The hotel was definitely historical in nature, but it needs renovations internally and externally. The hotel is across the street from the beach. It is also just a couple blocks from the tourist (trap) restaurant/shopping district. If you like the Nice beaches and you like the tourist trap type areas this is a great location. The hotel is expensive and for the money you spend, the private beach area should be included. It was not and was very expensive. The hotel is very close to everything, including the bus, train, and airport. Are there better options in Nice? Perhaps, and if I did this again, I woudl look elsewhere, but I think in this category, they're probably all the same.

Traveller's tip
The tourist trap area should be avoided. You will wait a long time for food and it's expensive and not good. Try to plan in advance and find better restaurant options.
