“Great break”
Great position, lovely room with excellent top floor indoor/outdoor swimming pool and health facilities. Well sound proofed and the 'kitchenette' is an excellent idea.
“Wonderful Week in Nice”
With 3 small children it was great to find a hotel so central in Nice that has a small kitchenette and separate bedroom. Would recommend this hotel to anyone with or without kids. Close to beach and train station. Quiet and safe.
“Great place to stay”
We had a junior suite in the Goldstar Hotel and Resorts and I would highly recommend it. The room was large and well furnished and had a small but well equipped kitchenette, which meant that we didn't have to eat out all the time. We had the comfort and facilities of a hotel with the freedom of an apartment. It's very well located - a short walk to the beach and just a little further to the old town and port. For those who like to visit other resorts along the coast, as we do, it's about 10 minutes from the station. The hotel has a gym (which we didn't use) but it also has a wonderful covered swimming pool on the roof. It's not too deep and perfect for an early evening swim.
“A cracking place to stay”
We nearly overlooked this hotel because of the name (!), but booked it as it appeared to have a good balance of value and customer satisfaction. Our first surprise was when we saw the kitchenette in the Junior Suite we'd booked. We hadn't expected this, but it made breakfasts (and a couple of other meals through our stay) easier and cheaper. This is a big bonus if you like to make up some of your own food, as most other hotels in France can be very stuffy about taking food and drink to your room if it was not purchased from the hotel. Another nice surprise was the level of soundproofing in the room. This had obviously been well considered, and meant that sleeping in was almost too easy... The bathroom was of a good size and water pressure was good. The bed was a nice big one - six feet wide, and nicley firm. The hotel is also located in a good place. The Old City was a nice walk away, and the Promenade just a couple of minutes. Being off the Promenade also meant that the traffic noise was taken care of. There is a fitness room, although this only contains a "dip" style of pool and a few weights, with a rower and cross-trainer. More of a relaxation room, then. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It's more modern than some, so lacks some character, but more than makes up fro this with the size of the rooms.
“Superb hotel.”
Excellent stay for ten nights at this hotel. Upgraded to a different suite on arrival as windows in original suite did not lock and were at a height that our son could open. (we were on 6th floor) Cleaners not strong on sweeping under beds as our son found a pencil sharpener under bed in original suite, then a sock under bed in upgraded suite. Apart from that everything was perfect. Will definately return.
“Really impressed”
I stayed at the Goldstar Resorts because I was in town for the Moncao Boat Show and found it to be an ideal choice. I was originally going to stay in a small room in a very luxurious hotel but then realised that for less money I could stay in a suite at the Goldstar. The hotel is immaculate and the suites were all well laid out and had modern, stylish furniture. The kitchens are very small but ideal for snacks or breakfast. Couldn't find a kettle though! The breakfast on the top floor for Euros 20 was expensive but good. It's just a few blocks to the sea front and a few minutes walk in the opposite direction to the train station, where there were trains to Monaco taking just 20 minutes. The reception staff were helpful and I would recommend this hotel to anyone. For families, the Ambassador suites are large eough to have children in the lounge on the sofa bed, making this great value.
“Worth considering....”
Nice, independent, boutique-style hotel (the hotel website doesn't do it justice) for the money. Close to the beach, and shops, about 20 minutes walk from the Old Town. The roof terrace is a welcome bonus for what is effectively a city centre hotel, although the pool is small and nothing special. The suites are a good way of sleeping three of you if you are travelling with a couple of friends.
“A really good hotel”
The hotel is in excellent condition with clean and relatively spacious rooms in a great location for the beach, shops and bars. The availability of a small kitchen area allows you the option to prepare sandwiches, or even cook a meal or two. And given that Nice prices are seldom cheap, this can make sense. We didn't have a lot of contact with the staff, but what we were impressed that they let us check in on arrival, just before mid-day. It makes a nice change to be able to use a room when it is ready, rather than having to wait around until some prescribed check in time. We've marked the score down to a 4 only because of the pool area. We chose the hotel because it was one of the few to have a pool, but it was so small and claustrophobic (being largely covered by a low arched ceiling) that we didn't use it - don't be fooled by the artful photos they provide!
“Beware, safety issues!!”
Right from the start I knew there were problems. Broken electronic lock and unable to switch anything on as they forgot to give me a electronic key card. Reception was manned by very young men who just were not very professional. Despite protests about the lock (I'm a woman on business by herself), they assured me the room was safe, pointing out security cameras. I admit the room was huge, but it took a phonecall to work out how the shower worked (stupid system). Biggest complain was when I discovered the window in the bedoom didn't open. I found that it had pieces of glass missing (stuffed with tissue) in the top and bottom corners and the frame was bent. Since it was in the early hours I left it alone. The room just wasn't 4*, holes in various places, deep scratches in the woodwork. Dirty tiled floor (no carpet). I was upgraded (hilarious as the only difference was a pair of slippers!) I travel for business all the time and this hotel is terrible for service and general maintenance. They closed my first room to future guests as its simply dangerous to have a broken window with a huge hole in it and a broken lock (I put a chair against it at night). Redeeming features are the rooftop pool area. Although small it is really charming. 3 blocks from beach, 4 from supermarket and train station. 20 mins to old town. Better 3* on the beach front e.g. Mecure and much cheaper! Bad TV signal on first floor!!! BEWARE Rm 101 and be preapred for pretty bad 4* Service.
