    Pocket Guide: Newquay

Whether you’re a surfer or a clubber, a sun worshipper or a stag partier, an early bird or a night owl, there are hotels in Newquay to make everyone feel at home 24/7. So if 5-star hotels are out of your price range and 4-star hotels aren’t your bag, check out the other options in Newquay hotels to suit your style and please your pocket.

Most visitors to Newquay come for the beach – after all, it’s one of the most dramatic stretches of coastline in north Cornwall, with its wide rolling seas, long sandy beaches and secluded coves. Life in the surf capital of the UK revolves around the world-famous Fistral Beach, which hosts many international surfing competitions thanks to its powerful waves and good swell. One of the most prestigious is the annual Relentless Boardmasters Festival, which is held in conjunction with a music festival at nearby Watergate Bay. Book early if you want to make sure of a room in one of the town’s friendly boutique hotels during this hugely popular event.

The laid-back surfing vibe can be infectious, but if riding the wave doesn’t float your boat, why not try a spot of golf? Newquay Golf Club is one of the finest in the area, with awe-inspiring views over the Atlantic Ocean and some demanding holes, while Treloy Golf Club, designed by Bob Sandow and opened in 1991, is the first course in Cornwall to feature American-style sculptured greens to test the most experienced player.

If it’s too cold to take the plunge, pay a visit to the Blue Reef Aquarium on Towan Beach, where you can make friends with the local marine life in the underwater tunnel, get up close and personal with hundreds of tropical species in the ocean display, and watch feeding time for piranhas and sharks. If that hasn’t put you off your food, head into town to check out the wide range of delicious seafood restaurants hugging the picturesque harbour. Finish your day in time-honoured fashion by sinking into blissful comfort in one of the town’s luxury hotels, or snuggle up to your beach boy in one of the romantic hotels overlooking the ocean and dream of that perfect wave…
