“not great”
-My rooms bathroom fan sounded like a lawn mower. Scared the snot out of anyone who turned it on. -The hallways (at least on the 2nd floor) are not heated so it felt like you were walking outside when you left the room. - Lighting in the hallways feel more like a necessity...just enough so you dont run into the wall kind of thing. Almost like a parking lot on a dark night. -Thought it weird that there 'may or may not' be a charge for a fridge. We called and asked specifically for a fridge, and were told if we were lucky enough to get one when they gave us our room, then good for us. If not, well, we'd have to pay $10. "Why dont you just give us a room with a fridge?"... doesnt work like that... Overall the location is good if you own a car. If I didnt get a good deal on Expedia, I would have chosen another hotel.
“Comfort and convenience”
I booked a standard room and was given a suite!! Furniture and beds so comfortable. Restaurant selection good and staff friendly and attentive. Situated just on edge of Newport town but easily accessible.
“Perfect Hotel for a budget price”
The Best Western has lately offered me a home away from home. I go every other weekend to Newport to see my fiancee and the hotel has become our home. Comfortable beds and superb bed linens for the price charged, makes a perfect get away. The staff is professional and helpful. The restaurant could offer better breakfast, but you have choices to eat outside the hotel. Newport offers great restaurants and your regular chain restaurant.
“Clean and Convenient”
This hotel is located close to all Newport has to offer for a reasonable price. Hotel staff were quite friendly and helpful. The only drawback was the hot water was only warm, but otherwise for the price I'd defiitely be back. Love that the WIFI is free as well as parking unlike other higher price hotels. This is definitely a plus for me.
“Clean & Comfortable”
I selected this hotel because the cost of the room was reasonable in an otherwise "high cost" area. It did what it was supposed to do. It provided a safe, clean, comfortable room within reasonable distance from attactions.
“Convenient, clean, and close”
My husband is in training at Naval Station Newport and I've been driving up from Pennsylvania several times a month to visit him and I've been staying at this hotel most of those visits. The hotel is split into two parts- renovated and un-renovated. I've stayed in both parts and they're equally clean and comfortable, but there are some small differences. The un-renovated rooms seem a little more dated, the beds aren't quite as comfortable (but are still better than most hotels), and the rooms aren't quite as large, but despite previous reviewers on various websites complaining of bad smells or other problems, I haven't experienced any real qualitative difference between the two parts of the hotel. The hotel itself has a very nice (though somewhat overpriced) restaurant and though breakfast is not included in your stay, you may pre-order from the menu. The staff is courteous, but not super friendly. If you're big on customer service, this isn't the crew for you, but if you just want them to do their jobs and leave you alone, you'll be fine. Most of the rooms (4 out of the 5 I've had) have EXTREMELY comfortable beds and on every visit the linens (including comforters) were impeccably clean-- a must-have for me. If you're coming to Newport for the Navy base, this hotel is absolutely your best bet. Very close to the base, it's a straight shot from the hotel to the main gate and about a 5 minute drive. All in all, excellent value for the price.
“Disappointed”
Stayed at other best westerns that have been much nicer, our room a third floor walk up, end building, room doors had pry marks, needed updating, beer can in hall stayed for two days, perhaps it was a fresh can each morning. Restaurant served decent breakfast. Depressing slot only casino next door, as most slot only joints are. Thames street, the action, was a drive, this was a less expensive option to the in town hotels and we got what we paid for. Perhaps rooms connected to the lobby would be nicer. try momma luisa's ( sp.) on lower Thames St
“The Jamestown experience”
toilet ran all the time, could not get it to flush right and the chain lock on the door was broken. Just shut the bathroom door and the other lock on door was fine, got there late, slept and left early. Have stayed here several times, first time in older section of hotel, other sections much nicer.
“Half Marathon/Seafood Festival Weekend”
The beds were EXTREMEMLY comfortable and inviting. The hotel lounge/restaurant had good food and plenty of football on the TVs which was a big plus for us as we were tired from the half marathon and decided not to leave the hotel. We weren't able to hear our neighbors or anyone in the hallways so we had a great night's sleep. I have no complaints at all. I called for a refrigerator the second night of our stay and was informed there might not be any available to hear a knock on my door 5 minutes later with a staff member and fridge in hand. Yes the hotel is a lil dated but it's kept clean and again I can't say enough about the comfort of the beds.
“Perfect Place to Lay Your Head”
I had seen some negative comments about this particular hotel, but booked it anyway because the location is close to where my brother's military base is located. My parents and I had no problems with the hotel. It was clean, we had everything we needed, and any questions we had were promptly answered. The only thing I would have liked to have had was queen beds instead of doubles. Otherwise, this place worked perfect for my family. After all, we were traveling the whole time and just needed a place to sleep and shower.
