“Aging hotel in a great location - excellent off-season value.”
The hotel is fraying around the edges - she is showing her age and could use some updates. For us, it was just fine. The room we were given was spacious and clean. For the price we paid, we were very satisfied and would return. Great location. Off-season parking in the lot across the street was not an issue and was free.
“Fantastic breakfast”
Was really impressed with the location, quality of the accommodation and in particular, the fantastic breakfast on offer that was included in the price. Would definitely go back.
“Service in the heart of Newport”
This hotel is in the middle of everything, steps to the docks and with excellent service. I definitely recommend it!
“Not real impressed”
This is an OLD building with SMALL rooms. The room was clean, tiny, with a small bathroom and sink in the room (not the bathroom). I would not go back..the accomodations are just too small.
“Great service, a little noisy”
Centered in the heart of downtown Newports shopping and restaurant district, the location of America's Cup is hard to beat. Free parking was available nearby (Nov-Apr). We were in easy biking distance of Mansions, Cliff Walk, Fort Adams and all major Newport destinations. Dinner. playgrounds, neighborhood walks were at our fingertips. Service was great, and hotel staff was very friendly, with someone always there to help with directions, breakfast, or a high chair. Neighborhood was noisy on the weekend, particularly at bar closing time, and this was in the off season. Decor was outdated but homey. Breakfast spread was impressive though quality was mediocre. As a heavy sleeper with kids and an appreciation for a 'family owned' style hotel, I would stay again.
“Nice old inn in downtown Newport RI”
Nice old colonial style inn right in the middle of Newport. The rooms are comfortable. The whole hotel is done in furniture from the 40s and before, so if you like the "Grandma´s house" look you should love it. There is a public parking lot across the street and you can get a discount from the hotel. If you are expecting a modern hotel with lobbies, elevators, etc this is not the place for you. If an old fashioned colonial inn is a pleasing idea, you should like it. They have a nice breakfast spread in the morning, and there are many restaurants in the immediate vicinity for lunch and dinner. The inn is on the main street in the tourist area of Newport, so ask for a room in the back if you mind traffic noise. There is no elevator; the large young man at the front desk happily hauled our luggage up the stairs. We liked it and would stay there again.
“Convenience”
This is right in the heart of the action. A breakfast that offers so many options everyone can find something, it was very impressive. There is also a roof deck that is nice to take advantage of.
“great location; yummy breakfast included!”
since this town can be incredibly expensive, we chose to save bucks on the lodging and enjoy the great restaurants with our savings. this inn worked well for us and the location could not have been better. it is so close to the waterfront and even within walking distance to the tennis hall of fame. the inn seems to be a mix of timeshare, b&b and motel. the staff was friendly and accomodating....the breakfast in the morning included a huge variety of choices. parking was convienient - across the street. i was curious to see the other units at this inn - i felt we lucked out and were given one of the larger spaces available for a reasonable price for this area. of course, if i had unlimited bucks, i would have booked us at one of the harbor/water front locations, but, all in all, we were comfortable during our stay.
“Wonderful litlle historic town with distinct character.”
It would help to have a picture of the actual booked room, because the room shown on the web site is quite different. The room we got was clean but cramped for two adults and two children. Bathroom was excellent, though. Spacious, with shower and jacuzzi. Complementary breakfast was good.
“dont recomend”
supposed to have a double room...their answer was a roll-away...air contditioner barely worked...parking was $20 a nite...breakfast room was tiny and crowded....lots of nicer places to stay in Newport...the location was the only thing that made the place bearable....
