"Great location and friendly staff"
We spent a weekend in Whitley Bay and found this hotel to be ideally located near to the sea front and lots of restaurants, plus a park across the road - ideal for the kids. We had a family room for five and found the hotel very family friendly. Very helpful staff, excellent service.

"Great hotel for the city."
A bit difficult to find, but we'll worth the effort. Staff very good , efficient, and friendly. Restaurant very good, the only minus being our bathroom was not as clean as you would expect, we didn't make a fuss,as we were only there for two nights. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would have no qualms about using it again ourselves. Excellent.

"Nice old hotel in good condition, good location"
We had a nice stay. Our room overlooked the bridges. Good pics from the window. The staff was helpful and friendly. It was a short walk to everything. Also - be sure to eat at El Torero - a tapas place close to the hotel. It was great.

"Cheap and cheerful"
Nice. Clean. Colourful. Comfortable. Simple. I had a huge room on the ground floor - 007 - no view, but who needs a view when just overnighting. The only snag - hairdryer flex not long enough to reach a mirror! i-Pad camera to the rescue. And no skirt hangers.

"A nice beach when you open your front door."
We stayed at Cara's place recently, family of four. Cara put us in a huge bedroom that has 2 queen and 2 twin beds. It could accommodate 6 people easily. It was a fantastic room. There is a sink inside the room so you can brush your teeth and do any quick wash right there but you have to go upstairs for shower/toilets. The house has 2 showers and 2 toilets. Breakfast was great, Cara was a very nice host. We only stayed for one night because of our schedule, but if we are in the area in the future, we certainly would be back!

    Pocket Guide: Newcastle-upon-Tyne

Newcastle-upon-Tyne hotels come in all shapes and sizes; from 5-star and 4-star hotels for visitors on a luxury holiday, to great value, cosy B&B accommodation. A stay in one of the great hotels in Newcastle-upon-Tyne is the ideal way to see the sights of one of the most beautiful cities in northern England.

A nice place to start is the Castle Keep, the attraction that gave Newcastle its name. Located in the very centre of the city, it's a great place to visit after dropping your bags in your pick of the city's luxury hotels. Reaching right back to Roman times, the castle is a fine example of the kind of history you'll find on every corner in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

For sports fans, Newcastle is a real gem of a city, with Kingston Park Stadium, the Sports Direct Arena (still know as St. James Park to the local Geordies) and the wonderful Stadium of Light; all located in or around the city. It's the perfect place for you and your friends to take in a great game while staying in one of the many business hotels in the area. The Premiership is possibly the most famous soccer league in the world and, with two major teams based in the city, Newcastle really is a special place for a sports weekend.

For a less noisy spectacle, the Newcastle-upon-Tyne Theatre Royal always has a marvellous show on offer, with a varied calendar ranging from ballet and opera to contemporary dance and pantomime. As this is the northern base of the Royal Shakespeare Company, you could try to time your visit to coincide with some of the most professional tellings of the Bard's work and stay at one of the myriad of charming romantic hotels that Newcastle has to offer.

If shopping is your bag, Newcastle is guaranteed to satisfy your needs. After a good breakfast and a pampering session in one of the city's lush spa hotels, pay a visit to the Eldon Square Shopping Centre and spend the day in one of the United Kingdom’s largest retail centres. Make sure to call into the flagship Debenhams store, as well as one of the largest John Lewis stores in the country.
