Externally a nice building with pleasent staff

Posted 03-Feb-2015
Pros: Its external look and the staff were polite and helpful.
Cons: Sound proofing, a heater that works and get the housekeeping supervisor to check all rooms and bathrooms.
Location: Its within walking distance of most amenities.
The hotel is conveninetly situated close to the town centre although the car park is across the road you can buy a overnight pass for £8 and £3 per day on a Sunday. It was such a shame that a good looking hotel so central gave such a bad night sleep. The room was cold despite having the radiator on it was freezing. I was kept awake most of the night with external sounds of sirens and other guests shouting until 4.30am. The bathroom was equiped with past guests hair which was not appreciated. There was a lively sports bar in the reception and the fake fire looks impressive from the outside. Although it does look good we have made a decision not to stay there again.

Excellent hotel for business or pleasure

Posted 01-Feb-2015
Pros: Rooms, Lobby, Shark Bar
Cons: N/A
Location: Situated at the top of town, near nightlife and good restaurants.
Stayed at the Sandman Signature twice now and I have always been impressed by the quality of this hotel. I would not hesitate to recommend and will continue to stay here when I visit Newcastle.

Business stay

Posted 26-Jan-2015
Pros: Staff, facilities, decor, location, bar.
Cons: Heating!!!
Location: Shopping, business, restaurants, arts, sightseeing, lots of stuff!
Only one thing spoiled my stay at the Sandman, or two if you're being picky! Firstly the temperature in the room was way below comfort levels. For such a modern building this was very surprising, but thankfully there was a hefty air con/heater in the room. Unfortunately this was far too noisy to use overnight. So no radiators, no other form of heating (apart from the towel rail in the bathroom!), but for noisy, energy intense air con blowers??? But for the heat/noise issue the Sandman is an outstanding hotel, but I won't stay here again during winter!

Sandman Newcastle

Posted 31-Dec-2014
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Take car park bookings in advance for hotel residents. Have a dedicated bar/lounge/restaurant for hotel residents & bone fide guests only
Location: Close to the Newcastle FC ground and Chinatown.
ZERO car parking space on arrival (not available for pre-book either) as it's only on a first come basis (not very efficient) - I had to park in the local NCP car park a few streets away (definitely an 'aarrgghh' walk if it had been raining). Hotel 'bar/lounge' was actually an annexed pub next door which also had another entrance off the street - this made for a zoo-like atmosphere with overcrowding and definitely not a place to eat or enjoy a quiet 'read of the paper' after a long drive. No room available on arrivel (3:20 pm) and put in a 'suite' after a 15 minute wait at the front desk- which turned out to be a self catering room with a sink/drawers/cupboards etc - not very comfortable for a single traveller at all. Food menu limited and expensive for what it was (£11 for a burger on room service - where I was forced to eat as I couldn't get anywhere in the so-called 'gastro-pub).

Pros: friendly staff lovely room convenient location spotlessly clean

Decent hotel but poor room

Posted 16-Dec-2014
Hotel was easy walking distance to town and station. We booked a king size room but found that the distance between the left hand side of the bed and wall meant I had to turn sideways to get down the side of the bed. There were also pictures on the wall which further reduced the space. I am not overweight so having to turn sideways was irritating and tricky to get up in the night. When I mentioned this to the staff they said that all the rooms were the same and they had received similar feedback so it was not particular to our room. The only way to have more space would have been if we had booked a suite according to the staff. Apart from this the location , staff and breakfast were all excellent. Sorry to say the room layout means we would not stay again.
