The corridor leading to our room smelt strongly of stale tobacco/ smoke. So much so we had to put a towel across the bottom of the door to stop the smell coming into the room. I would have requested to move, but we arrived late in the evening and were leaving early to attend a Christening. The room was OK but tired and basic. The kingsize bed was two single beds pushed together and it was not comfortable as you kept slipping between them.
Breakfast was poor. It was set up in an empty function space and the tables were just randomly put out without place settings etc. The breakfast was basic - just like one at a basic Holiday Inn and both the coffee machines were broken. I regretted paying more for breakfast with my booking as we ended up going down the road and getting coffee and decent pastries.
We were visiting family in the area and usually stay closer at a local Holiday Inn, but thought we'd spend a bit more for a decent hotel, but to be honest, apart from having a swimming pool, hot tub and sauna, there was no difference.
It's old and tired and the only reason it has a 4 star rating is because of its facilities. Unless you are on a golf weekend with a load of lads, it's definitely not worth spending money on.
