“Very good value and location”
This hotel was comfortable, clean and the breakfast was very good. It is walking distance to everything in downtown Newcastle. Luckily the weather was cool when we were there because they have an "air circulation system" instead of an air conditioning system. Our room was a bit warm so they gave us a fan. I would stay there again.
“Uninspired but perfectly OK”
Stayed one night for a conference for work. Good location, 5 min walk from main train station. Room clean and tidy. Shower only, no bath. Breakfast in morning pefectly OK (which was nice as no longer featured without paying huge amounts on a lot of Expedia's hotels). Functional and characterless but perfectly OK for a few nights despite this.
“Will be back!”
The hotel was in a prime location. It was very clean and the staff were very nice and accomodating! The shower had decent water pressure and the bathroom in general was pretty spacious for a european hotel. I would definitely stay here again.
“New, convienient and easy”
A very short walk from the train station, but still relatively affordable, clean and new. Breakfast was included.
“Good value hotel within easy walking distance of the station”
Hotel was fine. Breakfast is self service but with only one member of staff to cope with refilling and clearing it was not well enough organized.
“Comfortable Hotel for a City Break”
This hotel was as I expected. Breakfast was as advertised - a basic continental breakfast, not full english as some people seemed to expect. The room was comfortable, everything I asked for was available and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful with info on travel and things to do. The car park next to teh hotel seemed very secure and we could walk to train station, metro and bus stops within 5 minutes. It was only a 10 minute walk to the Centre and the Quayside. Couldn't fault this for the price for a City centre hotel and if visiting Newcastle again would definitley stay there.
“Not Recommended unless going to a party”
The staff were pleasant, professional, and helpful, and can not be faulted, but I can not say the same for the hotel. Our tv did not work. When we threw something into the trash, the trash can fell apart. This is a good hotel for parties, as it was full of stag and hen party attendees, but not for average travelers. There are no restaurants nearby and you have to pass many bars, with drunken patrons creeping onto the sidewalks, to reach any form of public transport. The rooms were clean, but I can not recommend this hotel for discerning travelers.
“Clean, cheap and friendly”
For a budget hotel I don't think I could fault Newcastle's Holiday Inn Express. The location is very convenient for everything Newcastle has to offer. It is a short cab ride from the airport, two minutes walk to the main train and metro station and ten minutes to the quayside. I was visiting Newcastle with my mother and our twin room was quiet, and very clean, as were all the common areas of the hotel. The staff were very helpful and friendly, which matters when you're away from home. The breakfast buffet was basic as expected, but good, there was something for everyone. If you want more spacious rooms, large bathrooms and fine dinning, then book else where, but if a convenient location, cleanroom/bathroom and a friendly place to lay your head, is all that you require, then this is likely to be the place for you to stay. After my very happy visit, I would choose to stay at this hotel again. A thumbs up to all the staff.
“Good location, friendly staff”
Stayed a few nights here . Very friendly staff and most helpful in all aspects. My assigned room had a heating/Air Conditioning malfunction and coupled with the fact that the previous occupant had smoked there illegally the room was not the freshest. Pointed this out and was immediately given another room, profuse apologies etc. So cannot fault hotel/staff for this.
“Met all my expectations, and better!”
While visiting, we had an emergency illness, and the staff was so kind and helpful. The location of the Express made it easy to walk around the city, or get to the Metro. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
