“my one night stay”
Good location, all the staff were very friendly and helpful. The main hotel area, reception and surrounding area were very nice. I have stopped here once before, i decided to go back to see if it had changed. The room I had was very tired looking, the double bed was very small in size, not big enough for two people to be comfortable. the room was unbearable at times with the heat, the room was too hot and there was no way to cool the room, last time i stayed there i had to ask for a fan, i think they should be standard in the room. that was the main reason i didn't enjoy my stay. I got the room at a promotional price which was good for Newcastle, but i would not pay the full going price. i would not class this hotel as a 4* the rooms need to be updated.
“Excellent service”
Particularly impressed by the friendliness and helpfulness of staff ,both on reception and in the restaurant. Very good breakfast with excellent choice provided.
“Great location, great view.”
Love the location of the hotel. Nice lobby. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. The rooms were spacious, however could use new carpeting as there were a few stains in them. We also dined in the hotel restaurant. Service was poor. It took very long to get our food, however they offered us complementary drinks due to the long wait.
“Not what is used to be”
The Copthorne was one of the luxury hotels of choice in the 90s so I was pleasantly surprised to see it as a special offer on Expedia. Sadly it's grandeur has now faded, and while the staff were very pleasant they could do nothing about the heating that didn't work in our rooms, as it was a problem throughout the hotel. Not much fun in the sub-zero temperatures. One of my colleagues was disappointed that his bath had not been cleaned, and he had to do it himself before using the shower. The rooms are large, light, and well equipped, though surprisingly the mini-bar is now empty. The bed was comfy, but the foam pillows awful - I would expect decent feather pillows but I took it as a sign of cost-cutting. The quayside is very handy, but the town centre requires a serious hill climb or a set of stairs. So farewell then the Copthorne, it's time to find a new 4 star luxury hotel in this wonderful city.
“Will go back”
This is a very attractive hotel on Newcastle's Quayside with helpful, friendly staff and a good buffet breakfast. For those without mobility problems, it's less than ten minutes' walk from the railway station, down a fairly steep hill - fine going down, not quite so fine coming back up! The only slight niggles we had were an unnecessarily complicated closing mechanism on the window, and difficulties adjusting the air conditioning, but the room was spotless and beautifully decorated. An unexpected bonus was that we were able to get into it when we arrived at midday.
“my stay”
I can say nothing but the best about the staff here , i stayed for 10 days and they were so polite , and helpful , the location is great you can get to everything by walking , taxi or bus very easy , the pool and sauna were great , the bar and restaurant were very good , food taste and presentation were excellent , down side was price , 33.00 GBP for full english for two which would be $50.00 usd but it was good , marks & spencers or the pub two doors down are about 5.00 GBP and serve till 12 pm for full english , while the hotel staff were great and work very hard , the hotel needs to give the staff the proper tools to work with and put some money into this location , free hotel wifi and sat tv with more choices , more comfortable beds would be nice , as well as a larger room service menu 24 hours , i would like to single out mark , john , colin ,sue , jenni , the kid going to school in iowa and all of the staff all the way down to the gym for being so nice.
“a very nice place to stay”
The room was picturesque, overlooking the river, and the hotel is very good. The restaurant hotel had an excellent prix fixe menu, but there were really no options for light food or an a la carte meal. Breakfast was not included, and is rather expensive for what was offered. The window admitted far too much sunlight, and there was no option to shield from this except to draw the very heavy shade and darken the whole room, a drawback of the architecture. Overall, I recommend this hotel.
“newcastles finest!”
i was extremely pleased with all aspects of the hotel. great views, friendly staff, clean crisp rooms, and the pool and hot tub just tipped the scales. would love to go back.
“Underwhelmed”
Despite convenient location I cannot recommend this hotel. Over priced for services offered. Front desk staff, though courteous, were lacking in training and/or experience. Concierge hopeless.
“Nice in Newcastle”
Can't beat the location on the Quay. Newcastle is the go-to location for stag and hen parties in the UK. On weekends you can expect to see odd costumes and well-lubricated party folk about. Internet access is a bit strange. You can access it from the TV through your room at an exorbitant rate or buy a daily wireless access card for 2.50 pounds and use the wireless in the lobby. Much better than the typical European hotel hosing.
