Disappointing stay at the Wellington

Posted 31-Mar-2015
Pros: Location
Cons: Guests should be able to choose if they want their room to be warmer or cooler than the temperature of the hotel. Pipe noise issue should be addressed
Location: Carnegie Hall, Central Park, great restaurant called RedEye Grill down the street
We chose the Wellington because of its close proximity to a performance we were seeing at Carnegie Hall. I expected the room to be small, which it was, but didn't expect the temperature of the hotel to be so warm all the time. When we arrived, I turned on the AC unit and it blew cold until about 11:30pm that night. We were woken up by incredibly loud clanging from the unit and then it suddenly began blowing hot air even though it was set on AC. With the room already so hot, we turned it off and opened the window hoping for relief. Of course, the rest of the night we were kept awake by all the sirens and honking that is typical of New York. We didn't sleep a wink the first night. We requested a room change and moved down a floor. The window unit didn't make loud noises in this room, however it still only blew heat when we needed cool air. A call to the front desk assured us "an engineer" would be by to take a look and he never came. Finally, we went to the drug store to purchase ear plugs so we could sleep with the window open for the rest of our 3 night stay.

Excellent hotel close to everything!

Posted 31-Mar-2015
Pros: We liked everything about this hotel. It was in the center of everywhere. Its staff were nice and helpful at all times! Our room was clean.
Cons: We were fine with everything.
Location: As I said before, everything is close by to this hotel. Its location is fantastic! You can walk to Times Square, Broadway, Central Park, etc.
My husband and I stayed in this hotel for three days last week. It was the first time we stayed here. We walked to all the different places we wanted to see except for Memorial 911 where we needed to take the subway which was really close to our hotel too. This hotel has a great location! The staff were nice and helpful. Our room was clean and small, but it was fine for only two people. It has a cafeteria that you can go for breakfast. It is expensive but it's right there when you leave the hotel. When we go to NYC again, we will definitely stay in Wellington Hotel again. I strongly recommend it!!

Great location, very close to Times Square.

Posted 31-Mar-2015
If you are staying at a hotel to be close to Times Square, this will serve you well. If you want amenities at the hotel or will spend much time at the hotel, this is probably not a great pick. Room was fine but small, with no chair to sit in.

Great Location for First Timers to NYC

Posted 31-Mar-2015
Stayed five nights at Wellington. It's the perfect location to discover NYC for the first time. Minutes from Central Park, Times Square, a Broadway show, 5th Avenue, etc. Even has a subway entrance right outside the side door. The hotel itself retains some classic charm while still being comfortably modern. Stayed in a two double bed room and it had everything we needed. It's not lavish, but more than enough if you're just looking for a decent hotel downtown. Upside Great location for tourists. Great value for the area. Cafe connected downstairs. Easy subway access. Friendly staff. Downsides The elevators can take a while (especially when one is broken) and the room temperature is on the warm side. Our AC/Heater would only provide heat (was told AC disabled on purpose for some reason) and the window would only open four inches or so to allow cool air in. You also have to pay for wifi which is just absurd in 2015. Actually, it was absurd in 2010, now it's almost unheard of. Get with the times, Wellington. The only other downside was the size of the washroom. If you're a larger man/woman you will have a difficult time. My brother and I were fine but it is definitely cramped. The toilet is only inches from the sink and tub leaving only a tiny bit of space to stand. Overall A great choice for your first trip to NYC. But once you explore a few of the other communities and have your fill of Manhattan, you might want your next stay in a different area.

Lovely Art Deco Hotel close to everything

Posted 31-Mar-2015
Pros: I love old hotels. I like the charm, Art Deco style, and warmth of this hotel.
Cons: The Elevators were slow at times. I did not have warm water in the evening when I ried showered at 11:00 p.m. twice.
Location: Theatre, Time Square, Radio City, Rockefeller Plaza, Museums. All within 6 short city blocks. Delis, diners, pizza places, & restaurants.
We had a very nice stay at The Wellington Hotel. It was close to everything: Time's Square, Museums, Radio City, Rockefeller Center. But the best thing it was near was some really great Deli's and diners. The staff was nice. The room was clean and just the right size for one person. I was on the 18th foor, so the the city sounds did not bother me.

Second Visit in a Week

Posted 31-Mar-2015
Pros: There was little to complain about.
Cons: Reception staff should not stand talking to one another when there are people waiting to check in or out.
Location: If you can't do it in New York, it isn't worth doing. Everywhere in Manhattan is within easy reach by walking, bus or Metro.
I visited this hotel for three days in one week then, after a gap of three days, I stayed there again for one day. It was disappointing to find that the hotel charge was considerably higher the second time. However, I knew what to expect on my return and there was little change. The first room I had in this rather dated building was on the fifth floor. Waiting for a lift was a bit tedious. The second room was on the fourth floor, and the two lifts had to serve 23 floors. Waiting for them was even more tedious. On one occasion there were about forty people waiting and it was almost worth going out for a coffee. However, this is not something over which the management has any control. This hotel served me very well and I have no complaints about the accommodation. I was again pleased to be able to store my luggage after I had checked out.

Very WELL(ington) located, is charming place with overaged déco. The service is done with seriouse and efficience. No surprise and for the price a good value for a trip in New York. Between central park and Time square, a good place to stay. Enjoy.
