Nice hotel but needs a renovation

Posted 15-Apr-2015
Pros: Staff and the diner attached to the hotel was great.
Cons: Bathrooms would be better with a walk in shower rather than the tiny baths, larger towels, free wifi, double glazing, curtains that close
Location: Short walk to Central Park and MoMA, also only 10 minutes or so down to Times Square.
Stayed in a double double with my sister, had read reviews that rooms were small but was still surprised at how compact it was. Bathroom way too small and cupboard/drawer space really insufficient. No free wi-fi which really annoyed us. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Location good, just a short walk to Central Park and a metro station just to the side of the hotel gave easy access through the city.

Fab 50th in New York

Posted 14-Apr-2015
Pros: Central location within a 10 min walking distance of Time Square and Central Park. Subway entrance right outside the hotel
Cons: Proper size hand towels could be provided
1st trip to New York and it lived up to all expectations. A visit to Little Italy and Chinatown a must. Don't bother paying for a cruise to see the Statue of Liberty just get on the Staten Island ferry its free and sails right past the statue. A walk over the Brooklyn Bridge a great way to see the skyline, just get the subway to Brooklyn then walk back across to Manhatten. Make sure you plan your trip as so much to see and so much to do - we will be back

How important is location?

Posted 14-Apr-2015
Pros: Location
Cons: Shower
Location: Times Square
The hotel itself is in an awesome location! It's right beside the subway and a 8 minute walk to Times Square. That's really the best thing about the hotel. Most hotel staff that we dealt with were nice. The cleaning staff was also quite nice and my room was clean everyday. Here are the negatives: 1. The floor we were staying on (8th), had renovations going on so everyday (minus weekends) we could hear loud construction starting at 9:30AM. We decided it wasn't a big deal since we were going to leave early to go explore. 2. There is no mirror on top of the sink. For a guy it's not a huge deal, you have to deal with shaving with a mirror on the side but my girlfriend did not like getting ready and putting on makeup in the washroom because there is no counter space and the lighting was poor. There also weren't other outlets that were close to the mirror in the room so blow drying/straightening your hair was difficult. 3. The shower. The shower was very difficult to shower in because the water constantly went from hot to cold every 30 seconds and mean REALLY HOT to REALLY COLD. This issue was minimized if you took a shower at night but that's not when I normally shower so I just sucked it up but it wasn't the best experience at all. Also, they don't have conditioner so bring your own if you need it.

Good location, great for a few nights

Posted 13-Apr-2015
Pros: Location
Cons: Room-upgrade, free wifi
Location: 5 minute walk to central park, Times square, MOMA, etc.
This hotel is perfectly situated between Central Park & Times Square. You can literally see both from the front of the hotel. Locations-wise, it was great. But this is an older hotel. As expected, rooms are small, beds are small too. But, it serves its purpose for a few nights. I would go back. And, I think the price is affordable. If you're planning on exploring the city most of the day, this is a good choice. By the way, wifi is no free.

Decent hotel near almost all you want to see in NY

Posted 13-Apr-2015
Pros: Unbeatable location. Price is fine if you just want a place to stay and do not care about the hotel amenities.
Cons: The bathroom really needs an update. The shower is very dark and the bathroom in general did look run down. They need to fix the heating in the room.
Location: Walking distance to Central Park, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Empire State, MOMA.
My wife and I stayed here for three nights during a short visit to NY. We picked this hotel as it was one block from Carnegie Hall, and we were attending a performance there. It is a very basic hotel with not many amenities. Our room was located on the 4th floor facing the street. There was no way to control the heating so it became very stuffy at night, at a point where we have to open the windows. As a result, it was really noisy all night long since it is a very busy street. The bathroom is tiny and had a very funny smell, like plastic. I believe it was the shower curtain. The furniture and the bathroom are a little bit run down and in desperate need of renovation. The staff was pleasant and very helpful. The lobby is really nice; it has the ambience of a classic hotel in NY. The hotel was fine for the purpose of our visit, as we spent all day in the street and just came back to the hotel to sleep. The price is fine for what we got. We saw many foreign tourists in the hotel. The hotel is extremely well located, at walking distance from Times Square (10 min.), Central Park (5 min.), Carnegie Hall (around the corner), Rockefeller Center (5 min.) and MOMA (5 min). There is a metro stop right at the corner and the street is very lively, with several nice restaurants (though expensive) nearby. In general, the hotel is fine if you are traveling in a budget, but if you are expecting luxury or want to enjoy amenities such as gym, bars, etc., then this hotel is not for you.
