Vintage economic hotel close to Central Park

Posted 03-Jul-2015
Pros: Its strategic position and the staff.
Cons: The hotel needs a capital renovation, which is very difficult because its age. The three elevators are small, and one was broken.
Location: One metro station is next to the hotel, but you can easily walk to the Central Park, or Times Square in less than 15 minutes.
The hotel is old, but the staff is very good. The 3 elevators were not enough, specially because one of them was broken most of the time. The closet and the furniture are too small specially if you plan to stay more than four days. One day we found a big cockroach on the door of one of the elevators, but never inside the room. When we reported it, the staff solved the problem immediately.

Good position but needs some upgrading

Posted 02-Jul-2015
Pros: The staff was helpful and location good for Central Park and Times Squaer
Cons: Higher staffing levels and more room facilities
Location: Close to Central Park- if you are in to Shakespeare there Is an open air theatre in the park and tickets are free.
This was the last hotel of seven in our trip and was not up to the standard of the others although it was the most expensive. The staff were helpful and welcoming but short in numbers. One station in reception was never manned nor was the safe deposit desk. This meant queuing with people checking in/out and then accessing the contents of the safe deposit in full view of the queue. It was the only hotel we stayed in that did not have a safe in the room. Also lacking in the room was coffee making facilities and the room and bathroom was small. The air con was good and easily controlled which was a big plus as the outside temperature was in the high 80s. Overall the hotel had the air of needing some refurbishment The room did have a splendid view of Central Park They did make an effort to mitigate things like a lift being out of commission and the room service was good. There is a cafe on the ground floor which we used for convenience for breakfast. The service was good, food was acceptable but on the dear side The sites such as the High Line and 9/11 Memorial aRe a fair distance away and you need to take transport to get down there

Experience

Location: Location is amazing
The Wellington Hotel was ok, the rooms are small but the facilities are manageable. You are paying for the location which is amazing, steps away from central park and 5 minutes walk from Times Square. The Reception staff was rude and condescending when we first arrived, especially when I queried the information about the wifi cost I was told compared to one the hotel was offering when I arrived. On the plus side, when I made about my room they did give me an upgrade for my last night when had a better view but was still small.

New York Wellington Hotel

If it were a historical landmark sometime ago, it's time to upgrade. As a first time tourist the view was the only thing to impress me.

Perfect location--nice hotel

Posted 01-Jul-2015
Cons: Ditch the internet access fee, and having to pay for the printer downstairs
Location: Close to Carnegie Hall and Central Park
I just needed a bed for one night. Nothing fancy--no suites, gyms, or hotel pools. This was in a good location for me (I had business in midtown), and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The room was not large, but the bed was very comfortable and the amenities (bathroom, ironing board, etc.) perfectly satisfactory. Hotel staff were delightful and helpful. Just as I left the room to check out, the housekeeping lady chased me down the hallway to let me know I'd left my iPhone charger plugged in at the desk. She was a lifesaver! I still baulk at paying extra for internet access at places like this, but it was a small nuisance in an otherwise lovely experience.
