Great grand hotel at fair price in perfect locatio

Wonderful! Only one glitch at check in which they handled with professionalism and exceeded my expectations for resolution. Would have liked air conditioner to go colder.

Thank you for choosing the Waldorf Astoria as your host for your recent visit to New York City. While I am sorry to hear that there was a small glitch to your check-in experience, it is great to see that we were able to act with efficiency and enthusiasm to provide a solution! Sometime it is not the fact that something went wrong, but how we bounce back from these circumstances that matters most. I hope we have the chance to welcome you back in the future. Keep in mind that we can mitigate a less-than-satisfactory temperature in your room for your next visit, should this inconvenience occur again. Thank you, David O' Keeffe Rooms Division Manager

A fabulous stay in a historical hotel

Posted 21-Apr-2015
Pros: We loved the history and architecture of the hotel, as well as the service. The beds were like sleeping on a cloud. Perfect!
Cons: Coffee making facilities. Shower was a little temperamental.
Location: Perfect location. ... Walking distance to a lot of the ' must do' of New York.
We stayed at the Waldorf for four nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. All aspects were to a high standard... Service, comfort, ambience, location etc

Excellent hotel in heart of Manhattan

Posted 20-Apr-2015
Friendly staff, doorman greeted us upon arrival, took our bags and had them delivered to our room and showed us the way to front desk. We reserved a luxury King which lived up to our expectations. Nice corner suite clean and comfortable. Sir Harry's is a great place to enjoy drinks before dinner or to wrap up the day. Enjoyed visiting with the bartender and hosts, nice mixed nuts brought to your table with great cocktails. I've read some complaints regarding price of rooms and drinks and meals....if you are counting every dollar, this isn't the place for you. Yes, it's higher end as prices go but they deliver. Enjoy the stay, upgrade to a luxury room and don't quibble over the price of an expertly made drink.....this is the way to enjoy New York.

Dear John, Thank you for your exceptional review. It is so important for us to perform at a high level in all areas of the guest experience, and the details you describe sound like we did. There is an old saying at the Waldorf- "Much more for a little more is true economy, much less for a little less is false economy. People who know the value of money are particularly partial to the Waldorf Astoria." Your review perfectly encapsulates how relevant this ideal still is! We look forward to hosting you again in the future and meeting your every need. My best, David O' Keeffe Rooms Division Manager

Classic Hotel that needs to modernise to keep up.

Posted 19-Apr-2015
I loved the classic bohemian aspect and history but did not enjoy expecting to leave a tip all the time especially after getting a 7 pound beer and poor service along this. At the bar where we must of spend hundreds.. The queues and wait for food in bars were long. Some of the customer care role was lacking. The heating control in the room was all over the place. Either wildly hot or wildly cold. The major bug bare for me was anything over 180 watts did not work hence my ghds straightners did not work. I am a bit shocked that in this day and age ghds do not work in a well known hotel! The lighting in the hotel was also poor. For the money paid I would say stay in another hotel but pop around and use the free wifi in the lobby. I did enjoy my stay but because I made it enjoyable along side my family. A lot needs to improve before expecting tips for average customer service!! If you wanna straighten your hair don't stay here.

Dear Jackie, Thank you for your valuable feedback. Our soaring lobbies, Art Deco elements & historic element typically please! Yet none of these features merits poor bar service and an experience that does not align with the setting. I am sorry we did not perform on that level and we need to. We will use your comments on amenities and offerings as we continue to evolve our guests' experience moving forward. Warm regards, David O' Keeffe Rooms Division Manager

FABULOUS HONEYMOON EXPERIENCE

Posted 18-Apr-2015
Pros: ambiance, décor, smell, staff, food
Cons: some things chipped or peeling in room
Location: great location in heart of NYC/near Rockefeller Plaza - lots of starbucks nearby and food places all over
The hotel was beautiful, smelled fantastic, and staff was very helpful and professional. The rooms were very nice, clean, comfortable, room service was lovely, and the suite we stayed in was amazing. Breakfast at Oscars every morning was THE BEST, and drinks at Bull & Bear were excellent. Prices equivalent to what you'd expect to pay in NYC; our first visit there and for our honeymoon was memorable and perfect. Some may feel that some of the features in the rooms (paint, wallpaper, ect) could be updated, but staying at this hotel is such an experience little things like that can be overlooked. Again, whatever they use to make this hotel smell so good, I want to buy! Thank you to all the staff for making this such an amazing stay; we love your hotel and your city!!

Pros: Everything!!
Cons: Towels, other linens wonderful.
Nothing like staying at the WA. Beautiful lobby, great location, fun people watching, good (but expensive) gin & tonics, attentive staff. Feel very special as a guest!!

Lovely hotel, would definitely recommend!

Posted 17-Apr-2015
We stayed for 5 nights at the end of March/beginning of April and had a really lovely time. Checking in and checking out was very quick and we didn't have to wait around for the elevators at all throughout our stay. The room was very spacious, with plenty of storage and the bathroom was a very decent size too. We had fresh towels provided every day and the room was cleaned with the bed made every day too. Although I can understand why some people found the lack of free wifi an inconvience, we actually enjoyed having a few days away from our phones and enjoying everything New York had to offer and there's free wifi in the lobby if we needed to check anything. We had room service on the first night and the food was really delicious, although a little pricey. The hotel is in a fantastic location and very close to lots of the main tourist sites such as the rockefeller centre, empire state building and central park. We would definitely recommend staying at the Waldorf and overall had a fantastic experience staying there!

Disappointing

Posted 17-Apr-2015
Pros: The lobby is beautiful and the bars and restaurants are top class, but not for families. I may have enjoyed it more if I was there with my wife only.
Cons: Free Wi-Fi in the rooms
Location: The location was good, with easy access to all the best things to do and see in NYC.
I stayed there with family over Easter and found the staff cold and unhelpful, and was shocked to find I still had to pay for Wi-Fi having just come from a lovely hotel in Boston (the Lenox) where it was free. I may have enjoyed it more without the children because the bars and restaurants looked lovely and were always busy, but they are too expensive for a 14 and 7 year old. I would have been better off staying at the Warwick hotel again. I think the Waldorf is more for business trips.

I am terribly sorry to see that we failed to impress during your recent visit! You outlined several need areas and I thank you for articulating them. Our goal would be to break the cycle of trying various hotels and we did not do that. New York is a special destination and our goal is to be the best part of the trip. We hope for the opportunity to do this in the future. Yours in service, David O' Keeffe Rooms Division Manager
