Nice surprise

For the price, we found this to be a very comfortable stay. The location was convenient to midtown and GCT, as well as subway. We were on the fifth floor and it was loud in the early morning hours with garbage truck activity, but relatively quiet considering it was NYC.

They allowed us to check in 3 hours early. After long travels, this was so welcomed.

Good hotel in excellent location

Posted 25-Mar-2015
Stayed four nights March 2015 and found hotel comfortable. Some delays at checking in and checking out but otherwise an enjoyable visit. Location next to Grand Central station meant easy access to subway system. Some street noise evident but only what you would expect in a central location in NY might be an issue on lower floors though, we were on the tenth.

Plumbing Problems Marred Stay

Posted 23-Mar-2015
Pros: Location, near Grand Central, and lobby area.
Cons: Plumbing, especially
Location: In the heart of east mid-town: Grand Central Station, Madison, Park and Fifth Avenues, NY Public Library, Bryant Park, St Patrick's Cathedral, MOMA
My wife and I went to New York for a weekend and, for the first time, stayed at the Roosevelt. This old hotel is a bit worn at the edges, but our standard room, with a queen size bed and a tiny bathroom, was manageable for a short stay. However, the toilet seat had a loose bolt and the shower fixture was old, unreliable, and finally failed. In the middle of my wife's shower the first morning, the hot water turned cold. It improved a bit after I played with the shower head and I was able to take a shower. We called housekeeping to report it: they later left a message that it was fixed. On Sunday morning, my wife took an "uncertain" shower, but when I tried later I was unable to get any water. While trying to adjust the shower head this time, the lever in the small head fell out: the main water control lever midway down the pipe was loose on both days. In the end, I wasn't able to shower. We're not going back, despite the hotel's great location.
