I would definitely stay there again and I will recommend others to this hotel. The staff there were amazing and they kept it clean.

Great Location and Comfortable
This hotel was in a perfect location for us. A few blocks from Grand Central Station, a Walgreens right across the street, a Starbucks two doors down and a couple of good restaurants just down the street. This has been a hotel since 1929 so it is old, but for the price, it is well worth it. The rooms are old and dated, but mine was clean and the beds were comfortable. 15 minute walk to Rockefeller Center and a 20 minute walk to time square. The room had a microwave and refrigerator, but they did not have ice or ice buckets I did not hear any noise from the other rooms. The staff was extremely friendly and I would stay here with my family anytime.
This hotel was absurdly false advertised. Don’t believe the pictures you see on here. We checked in and the hotel seemed just old and crusty but figured it would just have character. Nope. Walked into the room, crusty stains on the floor. Bathroom tiles coming off the walls, wallpaper peeling everywhere and mold on the walls. A rusty pipe was sticking out of the bathroom with the other half of it leaning up against the wall. Stains on the couches and sheets. Bugs on the floor because the window was left open.

First room bad; was able to change to a different one.
Hotel is tired, wall paper peeling, insect, few outlets to charge phone, no guide for TV. No shower cap (glad I brought one)
Bed and cover nice. Staff helpful.
Great location, super friendly staff, low cost…..but the hotel is dated and needs a lot of work. Wallpaper tearing off wall, patched up carpeting, no valet parking as mentioned(you get small discount on nearby parking), no bar open, no washcloths on room, you don’t control heat so very hot in rooms

A good sized, comfortable clean room. Well positioned for Seeing Manhattan. Subway a few metres away. Midtown walkable. Staff pleasant and friendly.
Slightly faded.

The location is great… just 3-4 blocks from Grand Central station and about 7 blocks to Rockefeller center. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful!
I liked the location of the hotel! I was looking forward to the roof top bar which was closed upon arrival. Bummer. The carpet and windows were filthy. Needed to wear shoes around in the room. Yuck.

Nice place, but its a little worn
Nice place, but its a little worn. There was a lip between the bathroom and the living area which was quite annoying. My grand daughter tripped on it and hurt her knee. I also tripped on the lip, but in a different room. Staff was friendly, but the place really shows a lot of wear and tear.

Great location, friendly and helpful staff. Our suite was spacious, the beds were comfy, the hotel was quiet and cozy despite being in the center of everything. Loved the old-fashioned style and comfort of this hotel!
It’s a serviceable hotel, but lacks amenities. Could use a facelift, heat was overbearing in our room so we had to run the AC when it was 40 degrees outside. Staff was very friendly. Easy access to Rockefeller, grand central, Broadway, amd Times Square. Positive is it’s just outside the main congestion so getting a Starbucks or Dunkin (both right there) super easy.
Our room was quite large to accommodate the 2 beds we reserved for. All the basics were good: comfortable mattresses, noise free, excellent service from front desk and bellhop. Two little nitpicks: housekeeping forgot to leave wash cloths, and there was no clock in the room. We would definitely come back.
The Roger Smith hotel is in the best area in the City but the hotel needs a thorough face lift. The website shows beautiful rooms but they are not what you'll see once you're there. The property is very old and has a strong musty smell, the carpets needs to be changed. One of the 2 rooms we rented had no pictures on the wall but the hooks were still there. The wall paper is coming apart..there's so much more but the staff is awesome and the location is perfect. I would honestly stay here again if it gets a face lift, lol.
Not worth the price. Took three different staff members on three different days to find a fan for us. Phone in room never worked, remote control never worked, and worst of all staff did not care about any of it. Overall cost was much higher than reported on the Expedia site
The Roger Smith Hotel is a wonderful, old world hotel. I worked in the area for many years and enjoyed the bar and the vibe of the property many times in those years. So, when visiting this time, I decided to stay. The character remains intact. The rooms are clean and eclectic. The check-in experience was wonderful as was easy check-out. And the number and variety of places to eat in the area remains strong...although I wish I had tried room service as the menu looked great and memories of great food I had there before is still fresh.
There has been a lot of change going on in the area during the pandemic. It's nice to see the Roger Smith has weathered the challenging times and is doing some renovations. But I'd like to see more done.
My one issue was that I went out at 11 PM on Friday night to get a late night bite to eat. But the main doors were locked and a sign on a door as you to call to be let in. No one was visible at the front desk. I had to debate whether to let in a family who were seated at the door waiting to be let in. I don't think ANY hotel in NYC, especially one in midtown on a busy Friday night (this was NYC Marathon weekend) should have the front desk unattended and the doors locked for ANY reason.
Thankfully, this was my main disappointment.
It was nice to have hard wood floors and for New York very roomy. Nice view and roof top bar a plus.
The unit we were in could use some TLC, chips in the tub some of the moldings were banged up and water pressure was weak on the 15th floor.
I couldn't have been happier with my stay at the Roger Smith--our room was ready early, front desk was so kind & helpful (especially the lady on duty at check-in), and our room was just lovely. We had a junior king suite & it was spacious & perfect for relaxing, and the bed was incredibly comfy. Loved the green tiled bathroom! Daily housekeeping, everything clean & in good repair. Loved the coffee machine, refrigerator & microwave--I chose this hotel over others for these amenities. The rooftop bar was unique & enjoyable as well. I liked this area, close to Grand Central and lots of places to eat as well as a Walgreens on the corner--we felt safe walking at night. Overall exactly what I hoped for--beautiful old hotel that retains its vintage charm without feeling antiquated. I will absolutely stay here again.
