“Little hotel, big value...”
Very compact hotel with very compact but well designed rooms. I stayed in a Queen bedroom with its own shower and bathroom, and it was terrific. Very clean and well maintained. Really well positioned on 51st Street, so about a 10 minute walk from 5th Avenue etc. I got an excellent deal with Expedia which meant that the room was very economical too. There are a number of good restaurants nearby - I was particularly fond of a Belgian place about 50 yards up the road that served excellent Mussels and Devel beer. Recommended if you're after a midtown economy hotel for a short stay.
“Small room”
Pros: great location, very clean and modern. Cons: very small, no fridge or kettle, no room service. We stayed in a double room with its own bathroom, but the toilet is in close range and you can hear everything (unless you turn on the TV). You can't open a suitcase when someone's in the bed, and even the safe is slim. Great for a short stay and if you don't have bathroom noise issues, but we would only recommend to others with full disclosure.
“Clean, swanky, little rooms in east midtown.”
I wanted a place fairly centralized and for the price this place was great! For warning, the rooms are small, but I spent 90% of my time out and about in the city anyway, so who cares? I didn't go to NYC to hang out in my hotel room! Would definitely stay again.
“Pod was perfect!!”
We were very impressed with the reception area, especially the ipads on the wall!! Free wireless available everywhere in hotel which was very helpful when your a tourist! The room was small however had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Me and my boyfriend had a bunk bed room but slept in the same lower bed and had plenty of space. There was plenty of hangers and even though we shared bathrooms which were modern and clean there was a sink in the room which was good. we never had to wait for a bathroom and the mechanism on the wall of red lights when a bathroom was in use was genius idea. The housekeeping staff were friendly and very helpful as was the nice lady on the cafe hatch. We would definitely stay here again as we were in a perfect location and wasn't too far from anything we wanted to see and do!
“The Pod Hotel Midtown East manhattan New York NYC NY - 3rd visit!!”
3 little words We LOVE The Pod. (ok Four) If you like street art, i f you like electronica in the lifts, if you like roof gardens. the Pod is the place for you, close to MOMA, good diners locally. 2 blocks from the 4 5 and 6, 6 blocks from 42nd street and lovely lovely rooms.
“Water Issues”
I stayed in double with shower room but the water in the sink did not work and dripped out brown sludge. So I used the trash can to fill the sink with water from the shower which is not so bad except for the radiator heating which sounded like a band of pipe bangers with cronic insomnia and large hammers. Needless to say my sleep was interupted. I complained about the water isses the next day but the follwoing night was not different. Be careful, its cheap but you get what you pay for
“Perfectly situated - great, modern, and convenient little treasure”
Having read many reviews in advance of my December trip, I was optomistic regarding my stay. From walking out of the subway at 53rd and Lexington to checking out 4 days later, my single stay at the Pod Hotel was amazing. The single room, compact and smart. The under bed drawers in the single room allowed you to tuck away cloths and hide suitcase away on a shelf. The inroom sink and safe were much appreciated and the shared showers with light indicators an unexpected treat. Actually, the shared bathrooms were never all filled and the more spacious one felt like you were in a 4 star hotel with special lighting, rainfall shower head, waist height sprayers and white marble gleaming.. Always clean and fresh smelling - as the friendly housekeeping staff were around non-stop. Rafeal, concierge during the week, was friendly and informative. Subways, were easy to walk to as were local supermarkets, pharmacies and dozens of Pubs and other affordable restaurants in the area. The modern lobby, murals, music in the elevators and bathrooms, darkened hallways - all adding a little special something to a great stay. Oh, and staff were not ever, "unfriendly" - always helpful and efficient. I would stay again and recommend to anyone who can stay in "close quarters" and not expecting room service!! Great little treasure in a big City.
“Not what I expected”
When they say 'Pod' --- they really mean Pod.....very small. It would be okay for one traveller but I shared with my daughter.... Also very noisy. We had a room with our own bathroom (thank goodness) but there were rooms that had to use community showers and toilets. Too noisy with people in the halls at all hours. Felt like I was in a college dorm - 2am and people talking loud right outside my room!
“miserable experience”
Expensive and not worth it
“Great hotel”
This is a really great hotel. The decor is really cool with some great room options. My friend and I went for the bunk bed room and shared a bathroom. Even though the room was very small it was equipped with a great sink and the beds were extremely comfortable. The shared bathroom option which saved us some money was a really good deal. There were 4 bathrooms on our floor which were all kept extremely clean and had great showering facilities. In our room there was a panel above the door with 4 toilet symbols with lights in the middle, when they lit up we knew that bathroom was occupied without leaving our room. The artwork and decor of the hotel is great and it has an amazing roof terrace. The staff were all extremely helpful. The location is Midtown East and is ok, there is a bit of a walk to places and if you hang out in the village a lot it's a long way away, but there's good transport links to everywhere and cab rides are fairly reasonable. There are quite a few bars and restaurants if you wanted to stay local for the night.
