“Not a boutique hotel”

I've been to Gem in Chelsea, truly a boutique hotel. This location is not in the best area, there aren't many street lights and not many people are walking on that area at night Cab ride to Chelsea is only six dollars. Get on a cab. The room was cozy and clean Basically the gem in Chelsea is a Wow This is Ok

Area recommendations
For a phenomenal dinner experience try Uncle Nick on 8ave ...5 min from M adison square garden Was Amazing!!

We are a boutique hotel that caters more to business travelers going to the Javits Center or guests who want to be closer to Times Square. All of our GEM Hotels have a different distinct style that reflect their guests and neighborhood. The neighborhood we're in currently in undergoing new development and is completely safe and secure. There are some fantastic restaurant locally that your can experience a slice of New York. Thanks for giving us a try and I hope you may think of us again. Cheers

“No GEM was this....”

I've stayed in plenty NY hotels to know not to expect spacious rooms - but this was sad...my office cubicle is bigger than these rooms! The entire week I stayed there was some musty kind of smell when you first enter the room - I believe it was coming from the bathroom. The only saving grace for this hotel was the location was pretty decent for finding street parking if you have a car.

Area recommendations
Midtown West - close to Times Sq, with out the congestion if you have a car.

“Good alternative hotel.”

The surrounding was not the best, but the hotel is fine. Room was very small but clean and new, offering all amenities that good hotels offers. Attendents are nice and helpfull. If you are going to the the Javits Expo Center, it's just perfect. Only one block. For the price, It's very good!

“Would Stay Here Again”

Close to many things, but you will walk a bit. Tiny rooms, but comfortable. Good place to base your stay if you're exploring NYC.

Dining
Try Lombardi's on Spring and Mulberry (I think) in Little Italy - Oldest Pizzeria in US - worth the wait.

“Reasonably Priced NY Hotel”

The hotel is in a good location, close to Broadway, Time Square and a subway line. The rooms are very very small but clean. Reasonably priced for New York - you get what you pay for. Good for a couple of nights.

Area recommendations
Mid Town or Broadway/Times square is a good central location. Check hotel locatrion relative to subway lines.

“A pleasant place to stay...”

Wash rags were not replenished in the room for some strange reason (?) Telephone system in the room did not work. I consulted the front desk and had to make my local call from the front desk. They should have told me that there was a charge for holding our luggage. Instead of putting it directly on my credit card. The room was clean, neat and tidy. The room was small but adequate.

Area recommendations
Midtown was a nice place... this hotel was in a very quiet area.

“3 Stars? On who's chart! It's a 5 star at being one of the worse!”

From the arrival until departure, the service was the same, nonexistent! I have stayed in many hotels around the world. In Europe you expect a smaller room, but this was the smallest room I've ever stayed in. Without exageration, two people could not pass at the sides, or end of the bed. The TV remote did not work. I called the service desk, and to no surprise, the bell hop that did not help with luggage showed up. He said he knew the remote did not work to change channels, but it would turn the TV on and off. Beyond disbelief, I proceeded to the front desk and asked if they had an empty room with a remote that worked. About an hour later, they called the room and said I could pick up a remote at the front desk. There were no toiletries, except for hand soap. The airconditioner quit working the evening we arrived. They said they could not repair it until the next day. I asked for another room and was told there were none available. I called from my phone as if I was looking for a room, and was told there were rooms available. Have I said enough?

“More like a 1-star hotel”

Don't be fooled by the pictures. This hotel is shabby. The rooms are tiny. There is a tiny wardrobe instead of a closet. Our Internet access didn't work, and it took three calls over two days to restore it. The first time, the front desk gave me an 800-number. The second time, I was transferred, but the helpdesk didn't want to wait for me to boot up my computer. He said he'd call back. He didn't. And on the third day, I got Internet access. Unfortunately, that was also the day we had no hot water. Coldest shower of my life. Our rooms also didn't get cleaned until after 6 p.m., and we had to ask for maid service. Worst hotel ever.
