“In a class by itself!”
The Carlyle is simply over-the-top! I've stayed there for years now, and always look forward to my return. It's small, elegant, quiet, chic, and the staff and service are outstanding. The concierge desk is excellent and there seems little the concierge(s) cannot do for you. The dining options are also excellent and the food delicious. In short, staying at the Carlyle is very special indeed. Also, its location on the Upper East Side is ideal for shopping, the Met is just a few blocks away, ditto several other marvelous museums and galleries; Central Park is also just a few minutes away, there are good restaurants in the neighborhood, and altogether the area is extremely appealing. If you want to be pampered in elegant, refined surroundings, treat yourself to a stay at the Carlyle.
“Chic, traditional and confortable”
The Carlyle my boyfriend and I both agreed that is a place we could easily apend months there as residents. Do I need to say more ?
“Old school posh”
This was a very nice hotel. The bathroom and kitchen were updated and nice. There was a walk-in closet. There was an evening turndown service that was a nice unexpected surprise. The hotel in general was very good, but it was awkward to constantly be greeted by two or three people any time you went anywhere, including the tiny elevators. Very nice hotel , but next time something more modern at the same price point would be better.
“The Carlyle”
We were very happy with the Carlyle. Service was prompt and all staff were helpful. We were on our honeymoon, and the manager sent us champagne and chocolate cake when we arrived. I note, however, that the restaurant dress code is strictly enforced.
“Great hotel with wonderful locatio for our visit.”
Truly white glove hotel even to the elevator operators. (Where do you find elevator operators today?) Very responsive to you every need. Hope to stay there on our next visit. Highly recommend it.
“The Carlyle Hotel disappoints”
The Carlyle is undoubtedly an excellent hotel and it was a real treat to stay there but the big disappointment for me was the charge for internet access from the hotel room (it was free in the lobby - but I preferred the local Starbucks). I checked with The Mark, St Regis and Peninsular hotels - all comparable in terms of high-end quality with The Carlyle - and none of them made this charge. It left me feeling bad about my stay and I regarded The Carlyle as petty and mean in making the charge. I certainly won't stay there again and will recommend any other hotel in Manhattan before recommending this place again.
“Great hotel if you like the UES.”
My husband and I used to live in NYC on the Upper West, but we wanted to try out the Carlyle. The hotel is beautiful. The room was spacious and comfortable. The service is great, and we enjoyed the piano bar. The hotel is not new, but, in my opinion, that only adds to the character. My only complaint is that I never have liked the Upper East Side, and I thought since we would be close to the park, it wouldn't bother me much, but I found it very inconvenient. Maybe if I were more familiar with the neighborhood, this wouldn't have been the case, but next time I'll head back to a spot close to bodegas, more restaurants, drugstores, etc. (Also, I have a baby, which makes convenience more of an issue.)
“Great classic hotel”
loved the location, service, quality experience.
“Horrible experience!”
Horrible experience!! Doors were slammed, shut closed HARD every morning until around 10:30-11am. I need my rest in the morning therefore I would definitely NOT stay at this hotel anymore nor recommend it to anyone. My colleague stayed 3 floors higher and he complained about exactly the same thing.
“Weekend indulgence in NYC”
Everything is elegant at the Carlyle, as well as welcoming. We felt as if we had stepped back in time and were enjoying NYC of the 1940's. The rooms are large and spacious and attentively cared for...we never had to wait for service of any kind. It was gracious to have an elevator operator waiting to take us up to our room. When it rained we were offered an umbrella. We would definitely go back!
