“Clean and convenient”

Rooms a bit dated and small and its busy, so getting service at front desk sometimes difficult as often lines, though no need to do this often. That being said its a grt location and no issues with my stay overall. Wifi reception was v patchy and unreliable after paying for 24 hr connection.

“Surprised By This Beautiful, Comfortable, Friendly Hotel”

The Roosevelt Hotel was a very pleasant surprise. Not sure where to stay, I just took what I could afford and WOW did I hit the jackpot. Beautiful lobby and wonderfully decorated for Christmas. The check-in & concierge were very friendly, accommodating and helpful. The room had plenty of room with a little foyer for extra space and comfy beds. I left so rested, which never happens on a whirlwind vacation! We were 1 block from Grand Central Station so easy access to anywhere in the city. One block from 5th Avenue shopping and just a bit farther to Avenue of the Americas, Bryant Park and Times Square. It was a GREAT experience for beauty, space, comfort, convenience & location. I would recommend the Roosevelt to anyone. Thank you for a great experience.

“Good location, convenient to theater, Rockefeller Center and shopping.”

The hotel is well-located and has an elegant, attractive lobby. Our room was nice enough, although we could never get the room quite cool enough. The bathroom was quite small with very little counter space so made putting on make-up a bit of a challenge. TV channels are limited--no FOX NEWS! Beds were comfortable and clean. Lots of elevators so rarely a long wait.

“Conveniently located”

Eight ladies went sightseeing and shopping the first week of December. We surprisingly received a room upgrade when the clerk realized there were four adults to a room. Everyone was courteous and helpful, but the service in the bar area was rather slow. More wait staff would have been nice.

“Smaller bathroom than a Europe hotel”

The hotel was comfortable and a great location, the bathroom was extremely small and the TV placement weird. No in room coffee and minimal storage.

“Comfortable beds, helpful staff”

We were very impressed with the Roosevelt overall. The pictures really don't do it justice; it's a beautiful hotel. The location is great for activities in Midtown, and it's about two blocks from Grand Central Station. The bed was the most comfortable hotel bed I've ever slept in. The staff was friendly and helpful--we had the concierge set up dinner for us one evening and were quite impressed with the venue he suggested. Room service is good, if a little pricey for what you get. Overall, would recommend staying here and would stay again ourselves.

Area recommendations
Midtown in general is really neat to walk around, but Central Park was one of our favorite locations. Grand Central Station is a sight to behold and a great jumping-off point for further destinations in Manhattan (including Central Park and the Museum of Natural History).

“Roosevelt needs a re-do”

Walking into the lobby is the best part if your stay. The rooms are in serious need if a re-do. From the stained carpet to the old bathroom to the running toilet to the noisy heater.....needed a re-do. I woul not stay there again.

“Great Location: Hotel Undergoing Renovation”

This hotel provided a fantastic base from which to visit some of the best sightseeing attractions in New York. The hotel lobby and bar area was very inviting -- especially with the central Christmas Tree and smell of cinnamon / spices -- and the staff were generally helpful throughout the stay. Our two 'Superior King' rooms were large enough to accommodate two persons each but the bathrooms were somewhat cramped. There was no doubt that the fittings required updating and replacement (examples: taps and bath enamel) but nothing to spoil the trip. The noise from external air conditioning equipment was ever-present but soon faded into the background. Dust ingrained around the edges of the room suggested an incomplete cleaning regime but the bed linen was clean and the beds themselves were very comfortable. On the last day, the main corridors and some of the rooms were being prepared for renovation, which (presumably) is part of a rolling programme of improvements. All of the service elevators were in working order through the stay and there were also comfortable areas in the hotel lobby in which to relax post-shopping. As an alternative to the main breakfast restaurant, the bar converted to a useful coffee / croissant / cereal servery in the mornings, allowing fast replenishment for teenagers and adults alike. The hotel is extremely well-positioned to walk to an excellent range of shops, deli's and visitor attractions, such as the Empire State Building and Rockefeller Center.

Area recommendations
One of the best days involved travelling to Battery Park (by taxi) and then taking a ferry to the Statue of Liberty in the morning. The ferries depart every 30 minutes and return from Liberty Island via Ellis Island. Leaving time for lunch, this allowed a really interesting and moving visit to the 9\11 Memorial (you will need to pre-book on-line). Note that the museum itself is not set to open until 2012. If you still have the stamina, a walk back along Broadway further helps to highlight the diversity of people, cultures and shopping in New York. A visit to the Guggenheim Museum (5th Avenue at 89th Street) is a must, not just for the architectural features of the building itself but also the Maurizio Cattelan 'All' exhibit contained within (correct at November / December, 2011). If space travel or dinosaur collections are more to your liking, a short walk across Central Park will take you to the American Museum of Natural History. Taking-in the view from the 86th floor of the Empire State Building (especially at night) was particularly breathtaking, accompanied by the really interesting and humorous audio commentary (on handsets, as provided). Also to be recommended are the Museum of Modern Art and the International Center of Photography.

“Loved the Roosevelt Hotel - would definitely go back!”

The Roosevelt Hotel is a beautful old Hotel and I we loved our stay there. The Hotel is under renovation and unfortunately we got a room that had not been updated yet. The decor of the room and bedding was nice and comfortable, but it was ready for some updates. The main problem was the bathroom. The toilet would run and make noises constantly. Maintenance came but the problem continued. There was a hair dryer in the bathroom - but it was on the wall next to the toilet rather than near the sink and area you would stand - and the cord was too short to reach a person's hair unless you straddled the toilet. That was my main and biggest complaint other than the toilet running. The pedistal sink left no space to put your cosmetics and things while getting ready. A vanity top would be better when a person is traveling. The lobby and common areas of the Hotel were absolutely gorgeous, especially all decoratead for Christmas. It was just so beautiful and pleasant I can overlook the problems in our room. I would stay there again for sure. The location is near all the places we wanted to go - Times Square, Rockefeller Center, shopping, etc. The lounge and bar just off the lobby was beautiful and we served great food. I really loved being there and hope to return.

Area recommendations
Loved Rockefeller Center, "The View" at the top of the Mariott Marquis in Times Square - revolving loung with view of the city. Pricey cover charge and drinks, but if on vacation - worth doing to get the view! Loved the shopping and Central Park. Also taxi to Little Italy - great restaurants. Enjoyed the 9/11 Memorial. East Village had some fun little funky shops. I'm sure there are so many more things to see - but we had limited time.
