“Perfect for us”
Both myself and my girlfriend would go back to this hotel. The views from the roof top terrace are fantastic. The location is not the best but the nearest subway is only a ten minute walk away. The area may be a bit deserted but I felt safe walking around after dark. The roof top bar is very expensive.
“Hotel Ravel things to know”
Just returned from a long weekend in New York and stopped at the Hotel Ravel. Overall the hotel was good there are just a couple of things you need to know during my stay the lift that goes straight from the rooftop bar to the entrance was out of order so the main lift in the hotel was used my room was right by the lift so it was noisy especially on the Friday And Saturday night as the Bar is very popular with the locals. The hotel is situated near an Industrial area and on first impressions it doesnt look very safe but i found it very safe to walk from the hotel to the nearest Metro line at Queensbury Plaza (just before you get to Metro station there is a deli called Tozt they do an excellent range of food and are worth a try you can even get a cup of Tetley tea!!) Overall if your just using the hotel for base it is very good value for money
“Great value hotel for NY stay”
We had a great time at the ravel and it was stand out the best value. I had to try very hard to find such a good deal. The hotel is a lovely design and was always scrupulously clean. Breakfast was OK and good value, although the restaurant feels like eating in a nightclub the morning after (which is effectively what you are doing). For new york the rooms are big and the beds comfortable. View spectacular from the rooftop restaurant. Service was OK. Some of the staff were a little standoffish, but i think this is the formality you get from american service. Internet is pay for in the rooms, (& expensive) but free in the reception/lounge area; pay for Internet always strikes me as grabby. The shuttle service is not as useful as you'd think, but we were fine with the 5 min walk to the subway. The area is a bit rough, although we felt safe walking about at night; its just a bit industrial & cheap accomm for city workers. The build quality of the rooms is terrible, quality fittings have been put in by a cowboy builder. As such, the hotel just feels a wee bit tired. Noise is an issue. The further up the floor, the more you'll get disturbed by music on Fri/sat. The lower you are, the more traffic noise you get. In our case this was considerable, some idiot with a defective car alarm was the most irritating. Transfers good value although leave time as the route can suffer extreme delays with even minor traffic incidents
“Unimpressive”
I know NYC is expensive but everything there is over-priced. Room, while clean is not anything special, showing signs of an overhall done sometime ago with stuff from Ikea. Third floor room noisy-- on busy street. Pounding noise at night from 6th floor disco. You can do better for the money in LIC.
“Cool hotel so close to manhatten you can see it”
This is a great place to stay for young people looking to get to Manhattan in just two subway stops. The bar/club on the roof has great views and is said to be really popular in the summer. The rooms are really modern and quite nice. The area is industrial but the hotel felt very secure. Good staff good place to stay if you are into tequila and not silence. CL
“Really nice room but horrible beds”
The surrounding area is LIC so you're not going to expect anything great. This place does the job. The rooms are great, there's a club or something on the roof, but the bed is horrible. The bed sinks, i don't even think the bed is made out of springs (probably just a bunch of blankets stuffed with a cushion). I'd say it's alright if you're only sleeping there if you know what i mean...
“Hotel is Not What is Portrayed”
Pros: Hotel is relatively clean and well maintained. Cons: First and foremost, the service is terrible. This hotel has absolutely no regard for its guests. The front desk service is hit or miss. On our last day, the manager/owner was there. He was complaining to one of the maintenance guys about how dirty the floor was. It was very rude and unprofessional in front of hotel guests. The owner/manager did not speak to us or acknowledge our presence, which I found to be slightly rude considering we were the only people in the lobby. The "complimentary" car service is a joke. You have to be driven to everything (subway, grocery store, etc) as the hotel is not in a prime location. Hotel is about half a mile from subway, but not in the best neighborhood to be walking at night. One night we called the car service at 10:45 pm for pick up at the subway, and was informed we would be charged the $5 fee. No big deal, but we were never picked up and had to walk back to the hotel. The next morning we called again for a pick up from the subway. It was 8 minutes after the hour and were once again informed we would have to pay the fee (although the shuttle was already out and about). Again, we were never picked up and had to walk back to the hotel. The staff does not care about it's guests and this is reflected from management down. The views are not what is portrayed on website. You will ultimately find yourself looking at construction on all sides. Weekend penthouse club is too loud.
“Boutique style hotel.”
Boutique style hotel. Fantastic views over manhatten. You do need to get public transport to manhatten but it was well worth it for the views and the service. the hotel do a complementary shuttle bus to the tube station which is helpful. The area was not the most desirable but felt safe through the day. We used taxis in the evening. Great hotel and great service. Definately recommend it and would rather stay a little further out with a beautiful hotel and large, quiet rooms than stay in the middle of busy manhatten with small, noisy rooms for a similar price. All in all we were very impressed with this hotel and left happy.
“Great roof top views”
Front desk folks very helpful and shuttle to subways helpful but location not great, no restaurants or shopping. Hard for cars (taxis) to get to the front door as there is only one entrance and to exit one needs to back out. Roof top has great views and is popular but can create lots of noise outside the guest elevator close to the guest rooms. Guest rooms and bathrooms are larger than most hotel rooms.
“What a not so nice susprise”
I was looking forward to my NYC leg of my vacation, and what a shock when the cab pulled up at this hotel. It is situated in an industrial area of Long Island city and I will not recommend this hotel to anyone. Their 4 stars are completely misleading, having stayed at a few 4 star hotels, there is absolutely nothing 4 star about this hotel. I would compare this to a cheap Best Western. The train ride to Manhattan is quite short, but the hotel is 11 blocks from the subway station. The complimentary shuttle charges $5 per trip for pickups and drops offs (if they outside the specified times). There is also a resturant/club on the top floor of the hotel. The music played (very loud) till 3am when I eventually fell asleep. This was despite calling main desk who said the noise was going to end at 2am. Save yourself the disappointment (or just manage your expectations) and book better hotel. Free internet access in the lobby was the only thing I enjoyed during my stay.
