“WE'd recommend this hotrl”

My daughter and I stayed here for 4 nights. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the room very comfortable and clean. and location excellent close to the subway and in a nice residential area with small shops, bars and restaurants nearby. The hotel is on Broadway so the road can be noisy but nothing that earplugs can't cope with! The hotel bar is currently unavailable due to being re-developed and the restaurant is separate and accessed from an external entrance but this didn't affect us. We would stay here again.

“Friendly, clean, simple and great location”

Travelling to NYC on business, I was looking for a comfortable, clean and friendly place with no frills, gimmicks or hidden charges. On the Ave Hotel fit the bill perfectly. The great location, friendly service and clean and modern aesthetic make this a hotel I will come back to again when I am in town on business. On the Ave is an oasis in the city and that was just what I was looking for. Don't look for elaborate lobbies, romance or over the top service. This isn't the Plaza (and I'm glad).

“Great Place. Will Return Soon!”

It was a great hotel with a decent sized gym and a great terrace. The only thing I wonder is why these high end hotels charge for internet in the room and only have free wireless in the lobby. I have stayed at cheap Motels that provide free wireless in the rooms.

“Not Good......”

Very disappointed! Noisy outside with construction...no room service...restaurant isnt even on the same street as the hotel although it says it is AT the hotel...very deceptive. Employees at the hotel were nice however hotel was not.

“Good place to stay”

Nothing fancy, but a good location on the upper west side away from the big crowds and inflated hotel prices in midtown. Times Square and the entire city is readily accessible by subway, with the nearest station 2 blocks away at 79th & Broadway. Bonus feature: for a respite, take a walk in Central Park, 4 blocks east, to the Ladies Pavillion and other areas of the park which are serene and uncrowded--a piece of New York most visitors never see.

“Classy locale classy hotel”

Upper west side is a very elegant old school part of NYC. The bathroom in our room was huge deco glamour with a shower running the length of the room. Room was tastefully appointed and foyer was very nice

“nice boutique hotel for the price”

Overall had a nice stay at this boutique hotel on the upper westside. Close to metro and central park, and few feet from Broadway full of stores, markets and restaurants. Room was teeny tiny, but the bed comfortable and the bathroom nice. Staff was very nice. Problems: only one working elevator on my side of the hotel, waited 30 minutes one time for it; only one ice machine on one floor; no food service; room carpet and woodwork worn, could use some TLC.

“Will be back”

Location Location Location. Great location, very helpful staff, smallish room but average size for NYC, very comfortable beds and overall really great experience. Very glad to find this hotel and through Expedia saved a ton of money. I will be back again and definitely be using Expedia to save money on this find.

Area recommendations

The whole neighborhood. Natural History Museum, great food spots- casual and upscale, very safe and quiet neighborhood. It is a real NY neighborhood and being a former NYC resident, I crave that instead of flash. Quietly stylish hotel in a very family friendly neighborhood.

Getting around

Walkable to Central Park, just walking through the neighborhood is an interesting experience. We routinely walked to the theatre district but the train is just a few blocks away. Being up on the west side may not be a location for everyone but it is a safe and interesting neighborhood, especially for traveling with teenagers. Might not be a great spot for the typical tourist spots but very safe.
