“All the Comforts in Downtown Brooklyn”
Unquestionably, the most comfortable hotel experience I've ever had in New York City in this price range. Nice sized room (not the usual closet) with everything you could need without any silly extras. Calm and minimalist decor (the usual NY brand of chic) but somehow classier and prettier, designed for your pleasure, not for their showing off. Big and modern bathroom, with room to set your stuff down - what a luxury! Extremely quiet room. Efficient window treatments for total light blockage. Great coffee machine. Nice continental breakfast downstairs, all the papers - nice bar. Didn't check out the exercise facilities, but they have them. Even the hallways are lit both effectively and beautifully. Everything super clean and in perfect working order. Great attention to detail.
“Very relaxing, wonderful hotel!”
Never been to New York, I stayed at NU for a conference that I was attending. Not only are the rooms spacious for a NY hotel room, they are very clean & the beds are heavenly! The hotel staff was very attentative to all of my needs and the room was always cleaned with the bed made each day. I highly reccomend this hotel to anyone visiting NY. The only reason I gave it the rating of a 3 for surrounding area, is because their is a corrections building right across the street. That being said, I am a youg female that was traveling alone and never felt threatened or nervous.
“Brooklyn Gem”
The NU hotel in Brooklyn is a gem. We enjoyed 2 nights in a beautiful minimalist room. It was nice to be able to open the window for air and a little street noise. The TV setup allows one to connect to a computer so can plan a downloaded movie on the flat screen TV in the room. This is a nice touch. We did not use the complementary breckfast. Friendly and helpful staff.
“Did not hold our reservation/gave away reserved room”
I made a two night reservation through Expedia at the Nu Hotel in April on behalf of a family member. At the time I lived nearby, knew the Nu Hotel was in a great neighborhood, and had heard good things about the hotel. When we arrived the first evening, we confirmed the reservation and verbally cleared up a confusion regarding the length of the stay (2 nights vs 1 night). When my family member returned to the hotel the second evening around 9:30, she found that her key did not work in the hotel room door and heard people on the other side of the door. After speaking with the front desk, she discovered that her room had been given away and her belongings put into a bag by housekeeping. No manager was available and after a few calls to Expedia customer service that evening and the next morning, our case was escalated and Expedia worked with the hotel to provide a full refund. We were fortunate to find other accommodations after Nu Hotel broke our reservation and we were able to recover most of the personal belongings, but there was one item of clothing that was never recovered. I was very glad that we had booked through Expedia so that we had their help resolving the issue, but otherwise I could not recommend the Nu Hotel and will strongly discourage friends and family from staying there.
“Great Experience!”
This new hotel is very neat and comfy, but is has a very small breakfast lunge and lobby. The rooms facing the street are not so quiet.
“Some improvement”
We were at this hotel a year ago (it is very close to our daughter's home in Brooklyn) and had many issues. After booking again, I wrote by post to the Manager, asking him for a quiet room and never received the courtesy of a reply, even though he had my e-mail address and telephone number. He never sought us out while staying at his hotel - does he even exist? After you contacted the hotel on our behalf and after I telephoned them the day before our arrival, we were given a room at the back of the building, which was what we asked for in the first place. We were very pleased with the Reception staff, but Housekeeping was terrible. There were only about three nights out of the ten when we didn't have to contact Reception after our return in the evening for missing towels, soap, coffee, etc.
“Excellent”
Hotel flawless; neighbourhood not so great.
“NU Hotel for a Cool Place to Stay in Brooklyn”
The hotel is in and around the courts, across the street from the jail, and on a very trendy street in Brooklyn, close to a wide variety of cool bistros, a couple of blocks from Trader Joe's, a 2 block walk to the A train to Brooklyn (express from Penn Station). The inside of the lobby is perfectly situated to have a refreshing moment, read the paper, look outside at the Brooklyn yuppies jogging by. The room has one of those perfect beds with linens you want to take home! The whole room is one I would love to stay in wherever I go. Just the right ambiance and good artwork, even.
“Ask for an courtyard facing room”
The hotel is in a great and amazing cobble hill neighborhood of Brooklyn, and your extremely close to everything. Unfortunately for my stay I had an outward facing room so I had to listen to all the street traffic and the constant flow of police vehicles going in and out of the station. The room's were extremely clean and their continental breakfast were a great way to start the day. If you go, make sure to ask for a courtyard facing room so you wont have to deal with the noise that Brooklyn brings.
