“dissapointed”
When i booked the hotel it was rated 4.5, which did sway my decision, after we got there we found out it was a 4. The bathroom really let it down the fittings were falling off the wall and it did look shabby, the rest of the bathroom was ok just the shower area I just didnt think it was worth the rating and was dissapointed for the money we paid..
“Grat Hotel, location fanastic”
Great hotel, staff couldn't be more helpful!! Over the road to Central Park and a short walk to 5th Avenue. The only negatives, shower in the room wasn't stand alone and the wifi is not free in your room.
“waaay over priced and under serviced”
half the employees were not helpful & had an attitude. they completely forgot our wake up call on the morning of the big meeting that brought us to NY in the first place - they did call the first morning but not the second - exercise facilities are not up to par & were completely disorganized. Rooms nice but dated. Thermostats in the room was a mystery - too hot or too cold - great location but not worth the money. I would not go back ever.
“Pleasant experience”
Excellent location for mid town. Very friendly and efficient service. Very nice public ares and bar. Rooms are generally small. Closets are tiny; designed by Japanese!
“Not very good”
Old hotel with old pipes. Small rooms. Stay away. To many other choices in the city.
“First Stay in New York”
Our first stay in New York for our family of 4 (two teenaged daughters). We splurged on the hotel because it was one of the few we could find with the room for the four of us. We stayed in a Jr. Suite, which had a separate living area with a sleeper sofa and a wonderful king size bed. Room was a nice size at 500 sq ft. We just couldn't do a room with two doubles, which seems to be the typical NYC hotel room. Service was fantastic. Location is on Central Park South, so great access to the Park, but a bit of a walk to Times Square and the Met. One nice perk was access to a courtesy car (beautiful Audi A8) and driver, which was almost always available for travel up to 10 blocks each way (but they really went further). The Macy's TGD parade passed a block away.
“Thanksgiving 2011”
Great location, terrific service, exorbitant price but hey, this is NYC. We only stayed one night so we justified the price. If you are planning a trip to the city for the holidays, don't hesitate to stay here. Right on Central Park South, easy walk to shopping and theaters and subways. Parking on 58th street, get coupon on line, only cost $30 overnight. Room was beautiful. We stayed in a suite with pull out and king bed, 2 adults, 2 teens. Here are drawbacks and I must admit, I'm being picky: There is no coffeemaker in the room, so bring a small one with you. Plumbing is very loud when you are in sitting room and someone is showering. Small fridge is filled with mini-bar stuff so you can't use it but if you call bell services, they will bring an empty one up for you to use yourself. If you want ice, again, you have to call bell services, which I found weird. Food at the hotel is too expensive but several grocers nearby to purchase coffee, snacks. We had a lovely time and would not hesitate to stay again.
“Essex House is Great!”
We come to NYC at least once a year and had not yet stayed at the Essex House. We were more than pleasantly surprised. The room was spacious and newly decorated, the indirect lighting was spectacular, and the bed was perfect. Staff was very helpful, and the location across from the south gate to Central Park near all the upper west side attractions and Broadway is perfect. We look forward to our return!
“perfect for central park”
location was perfect for central park, hotel is very nice but as it's at the upper end of the scale the services/ food and resteraunt are expensive. a kettle in the room would have been welcome. the staff were friendly and helpful. the room was bigger than we expected with comfy beds and plenty of storage and in room safe. also very quiet, we were on the 3rd floor and could hear no outside noise. overall we were very pleased with the hotel and would definately stay there again. the view of central park as soon as you walk outside cant be beaten!
“Above and beyond”
Although not inexpensive in the end I feel the Hotel lived up to its price. Why? Because when a small challenge occurred in the restaurant they went above and beyond to more than correct. Hotels and staff that do this justifiably find that in the end because of positive word of mouth they more than recover the cost of their actions. So overall it was good. Daily charging for the internet, in this day and age, with their room prices is an anachronism as is their lighting system. And the bathroom could have been better. But overall this was an excellent experience.
