Location was the only good thing about this hotel

Had a tough time checking in. Booked 2 rooms, got the first room at 12noon, and was promised the second rooms by 3pm - but actually got it at 7pm. Had to go down personally to get anything done. Never staying here again.

Amazing Location and Hotel Managers, Needs Updates

Pros: The staff was amazingly helpful. We had few issues with the room, however, they were extremely helpful and by the end we were really glad.
Cons: Room descriptions and pictures at expedia. Room needs a little of updates (i.e.: tub etc)
Location: Central Park, Columbus Circle, 5th Avenue, Zoo
Our stay didn't start as planned. The room (double bed) didn't have any view at all, AT ALL, and we were kind of upset. The room had few issues, however, the staff was very helpful and both managers were willing to help as much as they could. The location is just fantastic. The size of the room is very good with lots of storage. So overall our stay was good, next time for sure we will book a room with a view and hopefully both managers will still be there because they were amazing with us.

Excellent hotel at Central Park

One week vacation in NYC. Ideal location at Central Park with shopping and attractions within wlking distance. Very accessible metro system nearby and most important musea. For joggers delightful Central Park routes available just by crossing Parklane!

Very nice hotel, great location

Pros: Spacious rooms and bathrooms, comfortable beds. Beautiful lobby.
Cons: Our first room was noisy, but they were quick to fix the situation.
Location: Right on Central Park and close to Broadway.
The staff is very welcoming and our first room was spacious and clean with a very comfortable bed. Unfortunately, there was a loud mechanical knocking sound coming through the wall for several hours during the night. When I called in the morning to request a new room, Christina at the front desk was extremely accommodating and gave us an upgrade to a larger room with a park view. Moving rooms is always an inconvenience, but they could not have been nicer about making things right. We would stay here again.

the Essex House used to be fantastic...now IT IS NOT...Marriott managed to screw up this once wonderful place...will never ever go there...!

Incredible staff. Gorgeous room and hotel. The bed! The bed was like sleeping on a cloud. Why did you spoil us so much?!? Highly recommend this hotel.

seriously flawed luxury

Pros: comfy beds, amenities, location
Cons: sensitivity to handicapped people, keeping their commitments, free water in rooms, reasonably priced breakfast, coffee pot in rooms
while the room was very comfortable and luxurious and the location perfect, they charged for every little thing (i.e. water, no coffee pot in the room, $17 for a pot of coffee), and the restaurant was ridiculously expensive. More importantly, we had reserved a handicapped suite for my mother who was flying from Arizona to visit the haunts of her youth and for our family to gather (so we had a number of rooms), and when we got there they had given her handicapped room away, with only a perfunctory apology. This made for a very uncomfortable stay for her. I expect hotels to honor their commitments to hold onto a reserved room, just as we must honor our commitments to pay for rooms we reserve. They showed great insensitivity towards a 90 year old woman in a wheelchair and this is not acceptable

great location

Pros: great location - excellent room
Cons: coffee machine in room - bidet in toilet - double or twin beds in junior suite considering we were 4 adults - instead of sofa bed
Location: opposite central park - close to subway - great shops and places to eat
Whole experience was amazing from start to finish - shopping - excursions- atmosphere

We arrived at Essex House and were greeted by the usual american enthusiasm. We reached the room and it had not been done, empty bottles and sheets all over the place. I went downstairs to mention it to the conciege who without question upgraded us to a fantastic room overlooking the park and about 3 times the size. My point is that things happen we all know that but it is how one reacts to these things that determines ones experience and overall feeling. Our stay could not have been better. If you need a resturant just ask conciege there recomendations are fantastic. Great staff, great staff and great staff, especially on the conciege desk
