“NOT RECOMENDED”
The area is pretty bad. The lobby smells aweful and is very noise. You can hear guest and employees talking all night over. There is no breakfast as they promised and the internet doesn't work. ah and by the way is not a Howard Johson anymore is a Motel 6. The only good thing was the parking and the front desk guy was reallly friendly.
“Dangerous Area”
I was here on business. I booked the hotel because of the great rate. Upon entering the lobby, I was greeted by the registrar behind bullet proof glass, speaking into a microphone. I was instantly on edge. Parking behind the hotel was dark, with signs saying the hotel is not liable for damage/etc to cars. I felt very unsafe walking the 50 feet from my car to the front door. The room was clean. Oddly, there appeared to be no one else staying there. I did not hear or see anyone else except for a family parking their car in the back lot. I stayed one out of three nights, barricading the door with the desk chair and my suitcase. I am not an easily intimidated person, and still felt very vulnerable. The drive to the hotel was also very intimidating--in a very rough neighborhood. Would not recommend this area or this hotel simply because of the location. Howard Johnson's corporate office is working with us to get a refund, and has been very receptive.
“Great rates in a very convenient location”
This is my 3rd stay at this hotel. Extremely convenient location. Bus stop just outside that takes you to a Subway station in 5 minutes or less. 24 hour diner and pharmacy across the street. Rooms and bathrooms are clean and spacious. Service is quite good, and breakfast is included. (not a sprawling buffet, but it get's you going). I'll be staying here again, and would recommend to others looking for a cost-effective alternative to staying in Manhattan. It's only 20 minutes away.
“Very Convenient”
Very satisfied with the hotel as it is very convenient to the location that I need to visit. This is a repeat visit and would stay here again. The manager Danny is very helpful and always wants to do the best at this hotel.
“DO NOT STAY HERE”
BEFORE YOU READ THIS: I am not rich. I am not spoiled. I am not crazy. THIS HOTEL IS A DUMP!!! The conditions at this hotel were absolutely deplorable. First, the hotel itself was a dump. Our room was covered in stains and cigarette burns, from the carpet, to the sheets, to the curtains. Several things were broken, including a tv which looked as it someone had punched it in a drunken angry stupor. Second, the service was a disgrace. We called the front desk three times to find out about the nearest subway stop, and all three times we were either put on hold and never answered, or hung up on. The location was scary and dangerous and there was rap music blasting outside our window all day and night. There was no subway stop near by, only a bus stop outside the hotel. I would not advise anyone whose priorities include customer service, cleanliness, and safety to stay at this hotel. STAY FAR FAR AWAY. You won't regret it.
“Comfortable”
Very conveniently located as the bus stops right outside the door and the staff was very helpful to us in giving us directions around town. We got the kind of room we asked for and it was ready when we showed up at the hotel.
“Only spend a day there”
I was an ok stay just for a night or two. The Shower head didn't work so i had to use the bathtub. The TV remote control didn't go with the television. I had to get out of bed when changing the channels. I didn't like that too much. Overall, I would only go back if things improve.
“Slightly disappointed”
I expected some better quality @ that price :(
“Terrible...and definitely would not stay again!”
This motel is not for the faint hearted...because of the neighborhood you would definitely have to be street smart.
“Adventure in Brooklyn, New York”
We chose this hotel because of the price. Wanted to stay close to the subway system and be close to some restaurants and be able to travel within reasonable distance to Manhattan and major attractions. The staff at the reception were polite. We got clean towels whenever we needed them. The reception area always smelled nice and fresh. The room we slept in for our family size was very small. Keep in mind that these rooms are ment for sleeping only. We did just that, slept and would leave for the whole day. Bus stop is right at the front of the hotel. The neighbourhood is alright. To be honest it feels safer during the day then at night. The street is always busy. The night life is very popular around this hotel which for a family, with young children, visiting this hotel might be a little intimidating. This hotel should invest more money in some renovation such as replacing carpets in rooms, perhaps changing the window treatments and replace their bathrooms. The staircases in the hotel were also very outdated. It was a different experience staying at this hotel in this neighbourhood. I guess it was fine for a one time visit only. If I go back to Brooklyn I would try out a different hotel in a different neighbourhood.
