“Great location”

This hotel was great - better than most other 4* hotels we've stayed in Manhattan. Service was really good (concierge, reception staff) and the rooms were good with high levels of cleanliness. Gym facility also pretty good - I was surprised by the number of users at 6.30am on a Saturday morning!

Area recommendations

Despite having been to Central Park hundereds of times, I just love walking through it - so take 5th Ave up to the Park and have a good walk (or run) around it.

Dining

For an all-American BBQ food expereince - Virgils is a great one! It is almost 2 blocks over on W44th - so a short stroll away.

“Great location and fantastic service”

The hotel is close to everything without being in the middle of it and the concierge service was great. Nothing was too much trouble. Would definately stay there again. Only slight negative was the cost of room service menu and laundry services other than that would recommend it highly if you are looking for quality and a good location in the centre of New York.

“Sofitel Hotel New York Is the Best”

This is our third stay at the Sofitel New York, its location is great for all the shows and Broadway.The staff are very polite and willing to go out their way the help you. The room has basically been the same design for the last 5 years if anything this could do with updating otherwise we will go back again.

“Great hotel, unreliable concierge......”

This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel. It is situated in a great location within easy walking distance of Times Square, 5th Avenue, Central Park & Macys. The hotel is very clean and the staff are very friendly. We stayed out late for Thanks Giving so slept in the following morning & after leaving the room at 1pm returned to find that it had still been cleaned. There is a turn down service which adds a finishing touch to a comfortable room. We had upgraded to King deluxe & were situated on the 17th floor. The bed is one of the best I have ever slept in which prompted the return for our 2nd visit. Just what is needed after walking around Manhatten. The water is always hot allowing for a shower at any time of the day. This bettered previous stays at other older hotels which do not allow the simple luxory of hot water throughout the day. The lift is good is if on higher floors. The check in is late (3pm) which may not suit some arriving from an early arrival, however on the flip side of the coin it means you have your room until a 12pm checkout which allows a nice lay in on your final day. The only fault was the conceirge. We arrived at 1pm so walked around for 2 hrs. Upon return at 3pm, the checkin was smooth but it took over an hr for the cases to arrive at our room. Not what was wanted after a flight across the Atlantic. A shower and clean clothes was. All in all though, a definate place to stay if visiting NY & I would recommend it to my closest friends.

Area recommendations

Anywhere around Time Square is a great location. Easy access to lots of bars, restuarants, Theatres & in walking distance of shopping and Central Park. The subway can be easily found and get you to anywhere else you wish to visit. Be careful in the choice of your hotel though. Times Square is obviously noisy, so anywhere that is within 5 - 10 mins walk is a suitable place to be.

When to go

Thanks Giving provides a great parade, puts you in the mood for Christmas, & provides good shopping for bargin hunters due to the sales. Black Friday at Macys is busy but a great experience.
